Welcome to Sunnydale: Part Twenty-Six

“So, Giles and Nikki. A couple. What do we think about that”, Xander looked at the two girl sitting on either side of him.

“It’s a bit weird, don’t you think”, Buffy said as she played with her food before pushing it to one side.

“I was leaning towards disgusting, but...” Xander grinned.

“Xander”, Willow kicked him under the table. “I think it’s romantic. You know, the older guy and the younger girl fall passionately in love and survive against all odds...” Willow gazed dreamily out the window as Buffy and Xander rolled their eyes.

“Yeah and they get kidnapped by a vampire who wants to kill them and rid the world of us mortals. Very romantic...”

Buffy interrupted Xander. “Shh. Here she comes”.

“Hey guys”, Nikki sat down. “What are we talking about”.

“Actually, you and Giles ... ouch”, Xander looked at Buffy as a sharp pain travelled up his leg. “Hey!”

“It’s okay you guys. We can talk about it. I spent all of yesterday evening listening to Angel give out about how Giles had taken advantage of me, so I’m quite used to it”, she sighed as Buffy gave her a sympathetic look.

“He’ll come around”, Buffy told her. “Did he tell you that Spike has left town so you’re safe”.

“For now”, Nikki forced a smile. “Giles warned me that I’d have to be extra careful from now on”.

“How is Giles anyway”, Willow asked trying to stir the conversation away from Spike and evil curses.

Nikki’s face lit up. “He’s coming home this afternoon. The doctors’ say he needs total bed rest for the next week or two but he will be fine. Of course he plans to get straight back to work but I have other plans”. They all smiled, knowingly. “He keeps going on about his responsibility to you, Buffy. I tell him that everything’s quiet and Will’s doing a great job as substitute Watcher, but you know Giles”.

“Obviously not as well as you do”, Xander joked. “Ouch”, he jumped up when Buffy and Willow simultaneously kicked him. “I don’t have to stand for this”, he grabbed his bag. “I’m leaving”. And with that he stormed out of the canteen leaving the girls in hysterics.

“What are you three doing here”, Snyder stood in front of them.

“Well, we’re eating”, Nikki said, trying desperately not to laugh.

“This isn’t the place to be smart”, Snyder said angrily.

“No”, Buffy agreed. “School is most certainly not the place to be smart”.

Willow and Nikki broke down once again.

“I’ll be watching you three”, Snyder stormed off.

“Well”, Buffy laughed. “It’s nice to know everything’s back to normal”.
