Welcome to Sunnydale: Part Twenty-Two

by Eliz

Nikki woke up, her head thumping, not knowing where she was. This is becoming a bit too familiar, she thought as she tried to move. She felt a pair of strong arms tighten around her.

“Giles”, she looked up at Giles who gently pulled her up so that she was sitting beside him. “Where are we? What’s going on?”

Giles looked around the room at their surroundings. They were in a small, dark, cold room with no way out, except through a large metal door that was locked tight. He looked back at Nikki and gently touched the bruise on her right cheek.

“Giles”, Nikki moved closer to him. “Why has Spike taken us here? What is he going to do to us?” She noticed Giles take a deep breath and she also noticed the look on his face. “Okay Giles. Poker is not your game so just tell me what is going on?”

“I only noticed it while you were asleep”, Giles brought his hand to her shoulder and gently pulled down the strap of her dress. “This mark on the back of you shoulder”, he pressed his finger against the light brown mark.

“It’s just a birth mark”, she looked at him. “Isn’t it?”

“I wish that was all it was”, Giles brought his lips down and kissed her shoulder.

“You’re scaring me”, a shiver ran through her spine.

“That mark..... it’s the mark of Catha”, Giles explained. “It’s a ritual I’ve been studying recently in which a chosen one, a human, with this mark has the power to bring forth the spirit of pure evil ..... to destroy the world as we know it”, he looked at her sadly. “I never realised that it was you. I’m sorry”.

“Well”, Nikki stood up and began pacing the room. “I won’t bring it forth ..... I don’t want to bring it forth and Spike can’t make me. Can he?”

Giles dropped his head. “If the ritual is performed correctly it is your blood that will.... you’re the one.” Giles stood up and walked over to Nikki.

“Will it ... I mean will this ritual ... kill me”, she asked him in a small voice. Giles tried to put his arms around her but she pushed him away. “Don’t. Please”, a sob escaped from her throat. “Giles, I don’t want to die”.

“You’re not going to”, Giles grabbed her and pulled her into his arms. “I won’t let them hurt you. I won’t let them take you away from me aswell”.

Suddenly the large metal door opened and Spike walked in.

“Sorry to break up this touching moment but we have a ritual to get started”, Spike pulled Nikki away from Giles while a group of vampires restrained Giles.

“Spike”, Nikki spoke to the blond vampire. “Let Giles go. You don’t need him. Let him go and I’ll do whatever you want”.

“That’s so sweet”, Spike stroked her cheek “but I do need him. You see”, he indicated for the vamps to follow him out “there are a few details of the ritual that I’m a bit unsure of and I’m guessing that the Watcher knows all about it”.

“Even if I did, I’d never tell you”, Giles spat out.

“I admire your loyalty. Really I do, but by the time I’m finished with you, you’ll be more than willing to give me all the information I need. Tie them up boys”.

Nikki was pushed into a chair and a rope was tied tightly around her arms and legs. She looked over at Giles whose hands were being tied behind his back. Once Spike was finished with Nikki he walked over to where Giles was standing.

“Now”, Spike punched him in the stomach and Giles doubled over in pain. “Let the fun begin”.
