Welcome to Sunnydale: Part Seventeen

Giles woke up suddenly - he thought he could hear shouting. He sat up in his bed, fumbling for some light. He grabbed his glasses and the shouting seemed to quieten. It was coming from the room next to his. Nikki’s room.

Giles jumped out of bed and ran into her room. She was sitting up in the bed, wrapped in her sheets with tears streaming down her face.

“Nikki”, he knelt down beside her and touched her arm. She was shaking with fear. She looked at him for a moment before she threw her arms around him.

“It’s okay. I’m here now”, he gently pulled her arms away from his shoulders and looked at her. “Do you want to tell me what happened”.

“I had a nightmare”, she laughed, embarrassed. “I guess it’s stupid but...”, she looked at him and he saw her eyes fill up. “It just seemed so real”.

“What happened?”

“Well, I was in this room. I was tied to a chair. There were vampires everywhere. I tried to move but I couldn’t and Spike...”

“It’s okay”, Giles stroked her back.

“He was, he was going to kill me”.

Giles sat up on the bed an tried desperately to comfort her. “It was just a nightmare. It’s not real”, he was trying to convince her even though he didn’t really believe it himself.

Nikki saw the look on his face. “Come on Giles, I know you. You’ve told me about Buffy’s dreams and how they came true. What if...”, the words got caught in her throat.

He knew he couldn’t lie to her. When living on the Hellmouth such vivid dreams usually meant more that an over active imagination.

“Giles”, she held onto him, terrified he’d leave her. “Can you stay with me, just for tonight”.

He knew that he should say no, but he didn’t. He was suddenly aware that he wore nothing but a pair of boxers.

“Please”, Nikki pleaded as she pulled back the covers do that he could get in. Giles cautiously slipped in beside her, wanting to move close but at the same time afraid to. Nikki snuggled in beside him and he put his arms around her. They were asleep in a matter of minutes.
