Welcome to Sunnydale: Part Six

by Eliz

“....so Angel has been writing to Nikki for years. They’re really close”. Buffy finished off retelling the story Angel had told her last night. Xander, Willow, Cordelia and Oz sat around the table listening while Giles busied himself in his office.

“So, Angel has had a secret girlfriend all this time. Man, that guy is fast”, Xander didn’t even try to suppress a smile.

“Xander”, Willow hit him on his arm.

“She’s not his girlfriend. They’re just good friends and, and.... shut up Xander”, Buffy stood up and marched over to where Giles was sorting through a mass of papers.

“So, how is Nikki anyway”, she asked, looking angrily in Xanders direction. She couldn’t help but feel a little jealous of this girl. She trusted Angel but Nikki knew so much more about Angel than she did. But she liked Nikki, it was hard not to, and she knew she was important to Angel.

“She was asleep when I left this morning. I’m sure she’ll be okay, just very sore”.

“Nothing says welcome to Sunnydale more than getting attacked by a vampire on your first night”, Willow smiled.

“So”, Cordelia walked over to where they were standing. “ is she going to become the newest member of the gang or what”.

“Oh cool”, Willows face lit up. “Now I’ll have someone to talk computers with”.

“Calm down, Will”, Oz put his arms around her waist and gave her a kiss on the cheek. “She might not even want to become a slayerette. It’s not exactly the safest occupation”.

“Yeah”, Xander agreed. “and the wages suck”.

“I think the first thing we should do is let the poor girl recover from her ordeal last night”, Giles said looking at his watch. “and you better be getting to class. Principle Snyder is already displeased with all the late notes you’ve been receiving from the library”.

“I suppose”, Buffy sighed. “the last thing I need is that little rodent man on my back”.

Giles smiled as they filed out of the library. Buffy’s description of the principal was extremely accurate. He was a small, bigoted man who showed open contempt for his students, Buffy in particular. Giles wasn’t fond of the man but as principal he did deserve a small, very small, amount of respect.
