Boy, Interrupted: House Call

by littlewiccan

Spike looked at the clock on his night stand and groaned; the red digits glared back at him. It was 1 A.M.

“What are you looking at?” he asked the clock in a slightly slurred voice as he pushed it off his dresser.

It landed with a crash and he yelled in frustration, the sound hurting his ears. He leaned over and turned on the light near his bed. It illuminated his bed side table and he noticed the small white business card lying there. There was a number written on the back.

He grabbed his phone and dialed it, “Hello?”

“Hello?” a sleepy female voice replied on the other end.

“Buffy?”

“Spike?” she said a bit confused, “Its 1 in the morning.”

“Yeah, it is,” Spike said as though it had just occurred to him, “I’m sorry.”

“Where are you?”

“Home.”

“I’ll be right there.”

Spike just nodded as he heard the dial tone. He hung up his phone and fell back into bed.

Buffy knocked on the door to Spike’s apartment but he never came to the door. She frowned and pushed on the door it swung open. She walked in cautiously.

“Spike? Spike?”

She heard a noise and saw him standing in the door way to his bed room. He was wearing only his boxer shorts.

“What the fuck are you doing here?” he asked in a slurred voice.

“Have you been drinking?”

“No,” he said as she walked over to him and he looked away.

“Spike?”

“Maybe,” he said looking at her.

She shook her head and placed her hand on his forehead. He was warm and sweating, “You’re hot.”

Spike smiled, “And here I thought you didn’t like me.”

Buffy laughed.

“I’m gonna throw up,” he said gently pushing her out of the way and rushing into the bathroom where he promptly began to vomit into the toilet bowl.

Buffy came over and stood in the doorway as he finished. He flushed the toilet and leaned against the wall opposite it. Buffy walked over knelled beside him. She handed him a towel and wiped his face clean.

“Thanks,” Spike told her as they stood on the steps outside of his apartment.

Buffy nodded, “No problem….oh I almost forgot,” she searched in her bag and pulled out a pack of nicotine strips. She handed them to him, “it won’t help for drugs but for quitting smoking.”

“Who said I was quitting smoking?”

Buffy sighed, “Why do you insist on fighting me on everything?”

“Thanks.”

Buffy looked at him confused, “You’re not gonna fight me on this.”

He shook his head, “No.”

“Okay, good, you’d lose anyway.”

Spike laughed, “You’re something else love, you’re not that bad when you loosen up.”

“Excuse me; I am an extremely loose person….well not to loose but I am just the right amount of loose.”

Spike looked at her amused, “Sure love.”

“I am.”

Spike moved closer to her, “Prove it.”

She shook her head and turned away, “Night Spike.”

He grabbed her arm and turned her around towards him and then he kissed her.

He let her go and walked inside, leaving a stunned Buffy behind him, “See you next Thursday, goldilocks.”

“How’d it go?” Anya asked as she walked down the street with Spike.

“How’d what go, love?” Spike asked, glancing at his agent before he pushed open the door to the restaurant where they were meeting the rest of the band.

“You’re appointment with your therapist.”

“Oh yeah, fine.”

“Fine?” Anya asked, raising an eyebrow in disbelief as they reached their table.

“Yes, fine,” he replied taking his seat next to Oz.

Xander sat across from him, and Doyle sat next to him.

Anya sighed and took a seat.

“What’s wrong?” Doyle asked.

“Nothing according to William,” Anya replied.

“I told you not to call me that,” Spike said. Xander stifled a laugh. Spike scowled at him, “Shut up,” he said throwing a roll at him.

“Hey!” Xander said after getting hit in the head.

“Chill out,” Oz said.

“Fine,” Xander replied, “I just don’t think bleach boy should take it out on me, just because he’s testy because he’s going through withdrawal.”

“Fuck this,” Spike said getting up and leaving the restaurant.

“What is your problem?” Anya asked Xander.

“My problem? Yeah I’m the one with the problem,” he said, before shaking his head and leaving as well.

Anya’s cell phone began to ring. She sighed in frustration, “I need to take this I’ll be right back,” she told the remaining to guys before getting up and leaving.

“And then there were two,” Oz stated.

“We’re gonna end up breaking up aren’t we?” Doyle asked.

Oz shrugged.

“This is not the time for your trade mark silence and coolness. We can’t break up.”

“We won’t. Xander and Spike always piss each other off, always have, always will.”

“Yeah well they need to learn to get along, they’re giving me grey hairs,” Doyle said, bending over and pointing at a few hairs on the top of his head.

Oz laughed.

“It’s not funny, no girl is gonna want to get with a grey haired rock star.”

Cordelia sat across from Buffy at the outdoor café and Willow sat next to her.

“Here we,” Giles said, carrying over the coffee he had just gotten for the four of them.

The 3 girls all murmured their thanks as they took their cups of coffee and Giles sat down.

“Oh my god,” Cordelia said as she slammed her tabloid magazine down on the table and looked at Buffy.

“What?” Willow said, “What?”

“Cordelia would you please refrain from doing that,” Giles admonished, “You’re going to give me a heart attack.”

Cordelia ignored him, “How could you not tell me?”

Buffy looked at her friend confused, “How could I not tell you what?”

“That you’re dating Spike.”

Willow almost spat out her coffee, “Spike? As in the guy from Dingoes Ate My Baby?”

Cordelia nodded.

“You’re dating someone named Spike?” Giles asked a little confused, “That doesn’t sound sanitary. Sounds like someone with tetanus.”

“I’m not dating him,” Buffy said, “Let me see that,” she took the magazine from Cordelia.

She was staring at a picture from the night before of her and Spike outside his apartment.

Buffy frowned, “We’re not dating. He’s one of my clients.”

“What? And you didn’t think to share this information with your best friends?”

“I have client confidentiality.”

“So you won’t introduce us?” Cordy asked.

“No!”

“Geez, just asking,” Cordy said. She turned to Giles, “Hey, you’re British.”

“Yes and your point would be?”

“Well your British, he’s British do you 2 know each other.”

“Yes, he’s my son,” Giles said sarcastically.

“Really?”

“No!”

“Why is everyone yelling at me today?”

Willow smiled, amused, “Cordy, England’s an island but it’s not that small.”

“Yeah I guess it doesn’t make sense for Giles to have that cool friends anyway,” she said.

Buffy stayed silent and unconsciously touched her lips as she looked at the picture of her and Spike kissing. She shook her head and closed the magazine, “I don’t know why you even read this stuff Cordy, its complete trash.”
