Welcome to Sunnydale: Part One
by Eliz
Buffy, Willow, Xander, Oz and Cordelia strolled into the library, talking and laughing about last nights exploits. Suddenly Buffy stopped, causing the others to walk into each other.
“Hey”, Cordelia said angrily as she looked around to see what had made Buffy stop so suddenly.
Sitting at their usual table, reading a book, was a strange girl. She was about their age, maybe a bit older, with long brown hair which was tied into a neat ponytail. She looked up as they entered the room and smiled shyly.
They smiled back, unsure of what to do. Somebody unknown had entered their usually safe terrain and they weren’t sure how to react.
“Oh, hello”, Giles interrupted the awkward silence as he came out from the stacks, carrying an armful of books. He stood there for a moment looking at Buffy and the slayerettes before remembering the young girl in the room. He took some more books from a shelf and walked down to the girl, who was still sitting at the table, uncertain of what she should do.
“Yes, well, here are the books you need”.
The girl took the books from Giles and smiled shyly once again before leaving the library, looking back only once to see the gang resume their chatter and move to their usual places.
“Well”, Xander looked around at the door swinging shut. “That was weird”.
“And awkward”, Willow supplied.
“What?”, Giles said in his usual distracted English accent. “Oh yes, the girl, a new student. Nice girl. She’s from Ireland...”
“Isn’t that where Angel is from?”, Willow looked over at Buffy.
“Yes”, she said, trying to imagine what Angel must have been like before...
“Anyway”, Giles interrupted her thoughts. “How did the hunting go last night?”
“Oh, the usual”, Buffy smiled. “A few cocky vamps thinking they could take me out. Nothing that I couldn’t handle”.
“Good, good”, Giles mumbled, obviously distracted by the book in his hand. “Okay then we can reconvene here after school to do some training”, he made his way to his office but stopped and looked at them. “Well”, he asked questioningly.
“What?” they said in unison.
“Hadn’t you better be getting to class”.
“Class, what’s the point of that anyway”, Xander sighed as he made his way to the door.
“So you can learn stuff”, Willow supplied.
“What stuff can you learn in a classroom that will help you in the real world”.
“How about English, and Computers and Math......”, Buffy listed off classes that she herself had rarely attended.
“Since when did you become such a know it all”, Xander complained as the doors swung shut behind them and silence resumed.
“Ah, peace at last”, Giles smiled happily before walking into his office to make himself some tea and continue with the task at hand.
