Point Of View: Part Two

Spike watched the two girls leave the house and head for the cemetery. He followed them from a distance, making sure he kept well beyond the range of what Buffy called her “spider sense.” His goal was to grab the witch and leave Sunnyhell. That’s all. An encounter with what would be a pissed off, avenging Slayer was never a good thing.

Waiting for an opportune time to snatch the girl was boring. Following the two girls around was boring. < I hope Dru realizes what a sacrifice I’m making for her, > Spike thought with a frown. < I could be out hunting right now, but instead I’m tailing the bloody Slayer while she’s doing her rounds! And all because I’ve decided to have the witch cast that stupid spell after all. > He would not admit, even to himself, that he did not mind as much as he pretended to. There was something about the witch that attracted her to him. That was probably the reason he turned the car around and headed back to Sunnyhell. Torturing Dru would have been fun. But would it have been as satisfying as instilling fear in the girl in front of him now?

Spike suddenly heard his name being spoken. They were talking about him! He tried to listen in on their conversation. The immorality of the act didn’t bother him at all.

“... and he looked totally drunk and disheveled ... in a cute ... alcoholic vampire sort of way. Yummy looking, you know?” Spike’s eyes widened at Buffy’s words.

The witch seemed to be similarly surprised. “Spike? You think Spike is cute? But what about Angel?” Willow regretted what she said immediately when she saw the look in Buffy’s eyes.

“Angel and I are just friends,” Buffy said carefully. “Maybe not even that. And besides,” she added, “I can think other guys are cute even if I were going out with Angel ... and I’m not ... can’t I?”

“Maybe,” said Willow doubtfully. “But this is Spike! He’s not supposed to be yummy-looking! He’s got the grr ... and the vamp face thing going on ...”

Spike was disappointed by her response. Others had told him before that he wasn’t bad looking as vampires go, and finding out that Willow did not share their opinion bruised his ego.

“So did Angel,” said Buffy quietly.

Willow bit her lip. “Oh ... but he’s a good guy ... um ... and they’re generally better than bad guys, right?”

Buffy seemed to have regained her good humor. The subject of Angel obviously was one she didn’t want to dwell on. “Right.” She eyed her friend thoughtfully. “You mean to tell me that you didn’t find him at all attractive? Even when he was weeping like a baby on your shoulder?” Buffy giggled at the image of the tough, smart-alecky vamp crying. It was just so unlike the Spike she knew.

Spike frowned upon hearing the Slayer laugh but strained his ears to hear Willow’s reply. She certainly was taking her time!

“Well ...” said Willow at last. “He does have a nice profile.”

Spike was taken aback. < A nice profile? That’s all she can say about me? That I have a nice profile? Bloody hell! >

“A nice profile?” Buffy shrieked with laughter. “Willow ... of all the things to ...” she stopped suddenly and narrowed her eyes. A stake appeared in her hand from somewhere within the confines of her skimpy outfit and she began looking around cautiously.

“Willow ... stay behind me,” she hissed. The girl, frightened, did as she was told, her hand going automatically to the container of holy water she kept in her pocket at all times. “I know there’s one of you around somewhere,” Buffy called out. “I also know I’m going to stake you sooner or later. It really would make it so much easier for the both of us if you just stepped out and faced me like a man, wouldn’t it?” Buffy waved the stake mockingly. “Oh wait, you’re not a man, you’re a vampire!”

Spike sighed. The Slayer and her ridiculous way of taunting vampires to go for her ... she really should put a stop to that. It was just bloody annoying. Of course, that may be her point.
