Endeavors: Moving on
by Innocent Delirium
Willow walked into the dark flat and immediately caught the overwhelming scent of beer. Sighing, she turned on the lights and took a look around the lavish penthouse taking in the sight of discarded bottles and cigarette butts. She knew just what was happening. Spike had slipped into yet another state of depression. She could only image what set him off this time.
Last time she found him like this; it was because he had been watching an episode of "Passions" in which there was an extravagant wedding. He said it reminded him of his failed marriage and how he lost the love of his life forever.
Poor thing. Shaking her head, she walked through the house and straight back to the den; following the lone sounds of the TV. Walking into said room, she spotted Spike sitting in his lay-z-boy staring blankly at the screen with beer bottle in hand.
"Hey Spike"
The bleached blond did not even make an attempt to look at her but instead lifted the bottle and nodded slightly. "Red" Then took another swig.
She could tell he was in a bad state, but he was not horrible. Still it hurt her to see her best friend in pain. His divorce from Drusilla really tore him apart and she had to sympathize with him, but seeing him in this state constantly was pitiful.
Cautiously she walked up to him. "What's wrong?"
"Nothing" He stated blankly still staring at the screen.
"Oh Spike, come on" Walking up to the Television set; she turned it off then turned around to face him with her hands on her hip. "This is me you're talking to. Ya know, the girl you've known since sixth grade. You should know that simply saying 'nothing' is not gonna work"
Spike reluctantly looked at her. "What the hell do you want me to say Red? It's nothing you haven't heard before." It was the truth.
"J-just tell me what happened" Slowly she walked up to him and sat on the armrest of his chair.
"Bloody picture" He pointed to a picture of him and Dru on their wedding day, on the floor next to the sofa chair. "Popped up outta nowhere like a soddin sign. It's like the gods are lookin down and having a good 'ol time figuring out how to torment me. Like they're this giant kid with a magnifying glass and I'm the ant and they're just…"
"Spike…"
Rolling his eyes, he looked at her miserably. "I'm pathetic, Willow"
"Awww sweetie, no you're not"
"Yes I am" He suddenly stood up and began pacing. "I'm pathetic and miserable and, and pathetic. And there's no hope for me and you should just go give up on me. Find a new friend and forget all about me… like she did."
"She didn't give up on you. She had a problem"
"I was stupid to let her go. Seven bloody years down the drain all because she had a problem" Walking back over to the chair he let himself collapse into it. "and I, Her husband, couldn't do a thing about it"
Willow, curled into the chair with him. "You need to stop dwelling on this Spike. I mean I know you loved her, but it's been eight months since your divorce. You need to move on"
"I don't need to do anything"
"Yes you do, You need to get back out there and try again. Sure you were in a somewhat messy split up, but you need to get back on to the horse and show them that Spike can not be brought down!"
He smirked faintly. "You're losing it, Red"
"I may be, but I know what I'm talking about. You need to get there and start dating again."
"I dono, pet. I don't think I'm quite ready yet"
"Yes you are. All you have to do is do it! ... well not do it… but I mean I guess you could do it… it would be a part of the process but that’s not what I meant"
Finally Willow managed to get a laugh out of him. "That would be nice and all, but I don't think I can go out and just approach some girl again…"
Suddenly the red head springs up and looks at him "Then don't! Let me set you up!"
Spike furrows his brow in disgust. "A blind date? I don't think so"
"Oh come on Spike, It'll be great I promise!"
