Chapter One: I'm The Slayer

Buffy watched as the vampire in front of her advances, she heard Giles yelling tips from behind a grave marker; ignoring him she raised the crossbow she was equipped with and let two wooden bolts shoot into the heart of the undead monster. The vampire’s eyes went wide then it was dust, Giles stood up and approached Buffy just as a vampire of a petite brunette girl awakened and leapt on Giles.

“Giles!” Buffy yelled as she sprang into Emergency-Slayer mode and pulled out a stake, she threw the crossbow to the side and flipped over a grave’s hole. The vampire hissed as Buffy balanced herself and sent and kick into the mid-section of the vampire who reminded her solely of Cordelia. The Cordelia look alike flew off of Giles and through the air, she slammed into a mausoleum. Buffy quickly helped Giles up and handed him his crossbow and cross.

“Stay back. I can handle this one all alone.” Buffy said as she charged toward the vampire who did a complicated kick and made Buffy fall headfirst into the same mausoleum that she hit. The vampire took the upper-hand and picked Buffy up by her hair; which was pulled into a ponytail, she threw Buffy into a grave marker knocking the air from Buffy’s lungs.

“Buffy, watch out!” Giles warned from the sidelines. Buffy rolled to the side as the brunette pounced on the spot where she was just seconds before. Buffy grabbed the vampire’s shoulder and threw her to the ground; she quickly straddled her and shoved the stake through her heart. Buffy sneezed as a bit of the dust flew into her nose; Giles trudged over and helped Buffy up.

“Are you okay?” Buffy questioned as she stood and checked Giles’ neck for bite marks.

“Yes, I’m capable of surviving and little throttle.” Giles smiled and cleaned his spectacles.

“What time is it?” Buffy asked as she brushed vampire dust from her white button up shirt.

“It’s half-past nine.” Giles stated as he picked up his crossbow and started walking towards the entrance of the cemetery, “I think this will be enough for tonight, a job well done.”

“Thanks, I’ll walk you to your car and head home; mom’s already thinking that I’m planning to put another gym on fire.” Buffy said with a small laugh.

“Very well.” Giles said as they walked out the cemetery and towards his car. “Let me give you a ride home, it’ll make sure you get in less trouble.”

As Buffy walked up the steps to her house Giles drove off. She went into her jacket’s pocket and pulled out her keys, she got to the door and started to unlock the door just as the door was opening.

“Oh Buffy I thought you would be home a little earlier.” Joyce said as she walked past Buffy and put a few things in the recycling bin.

“Oh sorry mom, I was studying. Mr. Giles was helping me with some local history for extra credit.” Buffy said as she closed the door behind her mom and her, she saw Dawn in the living room watching TV and eating a bowl of ice cream.

“Buffy some guy called he said his name was Jesse.” Dawn said between spoonfuls of ice cream.

“New boyfriend, Buffy?” Joyce asked as a giddy smile formed on her face.

“Not exactly what you think, he’s a friend that is a boy nothing serious.” Buffy said as she hung up her jacket and sat next to Dawn sneaking a small clump of ice cream.

“Butthead.” Dawn said nudging Buffy making her laugh.

“We haven’t been all together in the same room in a long time.” Joyce said sitting next to Buffy and smiling.

“We’ve all been busy.” Buffy said as she leaned against her mother.

“With all the moving and trying to fit in it kinda wears you out.” Dawn said as she ate the last of her ice cream and taking it to the kitchen then coming back.

“You girls should get to bed, it’s about to be ten and you guys need your rest.” Joyce said as she kissed both of her daughters on the forehead and went up to her room.

“I can’t believe I’m finally in ninth grade.” Dawn said as she turned off the TV.

“Don’t let it get to you it only gets harder, and anyway it might be easy but it’s only our second week here.” Buffy said as she walked up the stairs with her sister, she said goodnight and took a quick shower. When she got out she quickly put on her pajamas grabbed her book bag and quickly did her history homework. Buffy threw her history book in her bag and looked at the clock the LED numbers read: 10:28 PM. She sighed and looked out her window expecting to see anything but nothing. She plopped on her bed and turn off her bedside light.

Buffy watched as Cordelia and the Cordettes walked toward her small group of friends. Xander, Jesse, and Willow all stopped as Cordelia and her groupies stopped near them. Buffy looked at them and sucked her teeth.

“I don’t understand why she wants to be with the freaks.” Cordelia said as she looked at the quartet sitting at a circular wood table.

“Why do you have to be so mean?” Buffy said sarcastically as Harmony went to say something.

“I gave you a chance to be with the “in” crowd, but I guess you chose them.” Cordelia said as Buffy stood up.

“Whatever I don’t have to for an airhead like you.” Buffy said rolling her eyes and leading Willow, Xander, and Jesse to the library.

“So Giles any supernatural activity?” Willow said as she closed a book on demonology and looked up.

“Actually yes, Buffy as you know the Master is planning to rise onto the surface.” Giles continued getting everyone’s attention, “Well it seems as though it is prophesized for the Master to gain enough power from the blood of an unborn child.”

“So I’m gonna have to go and do some serious ass-kicking huh?” Buffy said.

“Well actually yes, but not until you are prepared, The Master is a lot stronger than your regular vampires. He has the ability to hypnotize and his strength and speed effortlessly can overcome the skills and abilities of a Slayer.” Giles said as he flipped through a diary of a past Watcher. “According to this Watcher’s diary he is one of the oldest vampires.”

“So he can’t be beat?” Xander said confused.

“No, I mean yes but if Buffy wants to defeat him she must train vigorously.” Giles said, he closed the diary and laid it on the counter.

“Can we help in anyway?” Jesse said as he came from behind a bookshelf.

“No, all you will do is act like everything is normal and stay out of the way.” Buffy said interrupting before Giles could answer.

“W-we can’t let you fight a super-almighty-powerful demon alone.” Willow stuttered and looked to Giles for help.

“I’m sorry, but Buffy’s right we can’t afford to put your lives in danger you all shouldn’t even know about Buffy being a Slayer and me being a Watcher.” Giles said as he took off his glasses and started to wipe them.

“I’m the Slayer and I’ll work alone to dust this vamp.” Buffy defiantly said and left the library.

“You all should head to class, I’ll do some research and I’ll contact you if you can help in any way.” Giles said dismissing the trio.
