The Final Battle: Part 1

by Vampyra

Los Angeles, Dec. 1, 1999

It was still early in the morning when the young Watcher walked into his
personal library. He had been trying, in vain, to find the portal where an
immense source of power was leaking out. The warlocks and vampires of Los
Angeles had been storing this power for a long time now, hoping to gain
enough to free the Dark Sister.daughter of Darkness walking around > the Watcher thought. After grabbing
a dozen books of the shelves, he sat down in the couch and decided passed
another day researching.

After a whole day's work, he suddenly found what he was looking for. A
Hellmouth. And not just any Hellmouth, but one that was most likely filled
with Warlock Masters. He quickly calmed himself and went to look for the
Huntress to inform her of the discovery.
he thought. He put on a jacket and went for the cemetery.

Since there were many cemeteries in the vicinity, it wasn't until 11:30pm
that he finally reached the one he was looking for. The Fallen-Angels Cemetery
was as dark and gloomy as can be imagined. Suddenly, two vampires emerged from
freshly dug graves. Before they could figure anything out, a tall brunette jumped
out of the shadows and staked one right in the heart. She kicked the other into
a tree and staked him before he could say a word. After looking around to make
sure no other vampires were going to pop up, she put her stake back into her
sleeves and started to walk out of the cemetery.

As she reached the gate, the dark-haired muscular man suddenly confronted her.
"Where were you? I've tried to find you for the last 2 hours!" he yelled excitedly.

"Calmed down. I was only out patrolling." She said to the Watcher.

"Forget about vampires. I think I've found the Hellmouth we're looking for. It's
right under Sunnydale High…"

Sunnydale Library, Next Day

Rupert Giles have spent the week searching for a prophecy. Unfortunately, all he
can come up with so far is that it involves a demon. He put down the Watcher Diary
that he has been reading for most of the morning and rubbed his eyes. nowhere with this one > he thought. the Council. God, I'm glad Buffy wasn't assigned to him. >

After a few minutes of shut-eye, Giles reached for an older diary and resumed his
reading. It wasn't until the afternoon that he finally found what he was looking for.
However, it raised more questions and answers.

"So, what are you doing tonight, want to catch a movie?" Willow asked Buffy as they
walked to the school library.

"Can't. Patrolling and all." she answered, sorrowfully.

"I'm glad you're guys are here, I need to tell you something very important." Giles
said, a very ancient book in his hands.

"What is it, Giles?" Buffy asked sarcastically, "is the world gonna end again?"

"N-no. Well, I'm not sure, exactly." Giles answered. "It's about the new millenium
fast approaching and has something to do with all the Armageddon prophecies flying
around. However, it is going to be big."

"Giles, we live on a Hellmouth. Something big happens almost everyday. What's so
different about this one?" Buffy asked carelessly. It was not the first time she's
heard this 'rumor' that something big was going to happen on New Year's Eve. And
frankly, she was getting sick of it.

"What's going to happen this New Year's Eve?" Xander asked as he and Oz walked into
the room. Willow and Oz quickly found each other's arms, ready for a welcoming kiss.

Giles thought. Going back to his book, Giles began to translate the
prophecy that will, hopefully, answer everyone's questions. "Every 2000 years, Hell
will rise through Earth's portal. It will sent its daughter to do battle with the Light
and the Sister who prevails will win control of the Earth."

Everyone was silent. Finally, Buffy broke the ice: "So, are you saying that on Jan.
1, 2000, we'll be sucked into Hell?" She added silently.

"N-no. From what I gather, it's more like Earth will suck Hell out." Giles answered
in that all-knowing tone Buffy hates so much. Xander gave a squeamish frown as he
tried to picture Giles' description.

"So, basically Demons and other hellish creatures will walk the Earth freely come
New Years." Buffy continued, ignoring Xander's frown. Willow shuddered at the thought
and clinged harder to Oz. Oz confidently smiled back. Then he turned his attention
back to Giles' prophecy.

"Are you sure it's THIS New Year?" he asked, "I mean, wouldn't the next millenium be,
technically, 2001, since there is no year 0?" As much as he hates to be proved wrong
by a teenager, Giles has to admit that Oz has a point. The prophecy didn't specify how
many years the last battle was fought. For all they know, the next one could still be a
thousand years in the future.

"Well, we must be prepared anyhow," Giles continued, "Willow, see if you can find
anything on the Internet. Xander, you and Buffy check out the Encyclopedia of Netherworld.
Oz, you can help me with the Watcher Prophecies." The group shifted into research mode
and quickly fanned out to their designated places.

After three hours of nonstop research, except for an occasional sip of soda, or tea for
Giles, the gang still had nothing. Giles was about to call it a night when a loud shriek
of triumph came out of Willow. Everyone hurried to her side. "What is it, Willow?" Oz
asked, worriedly.

"Yah, you okay?" Xander added, his ears still ringing for Willow's loud scream. But
Willow didn't seem to notice the worried faces of the group surrounding her. A wide
smile of satisfaction was spread across her face.

"I think I've got it!" she said, happily, "this is a resent message posted on
Conspiracies-of-the-Millenium Online by a Los Angeles Witches Coven. They predict
that on Jan. 1, 2000, a sister of Destruction will emerge from Hell and plot to
bring an end to humanity."

"Does it say anything about how to stop it?" Buffy asked, already in her battle mode.
After living on Hellmouth for over 2 years, fighting to save the world was almost common.

Willow scanned the message board and quickly located what she need. "It says here," Willow
began, "that the Sister of Destruction is a creature of the Darkness, the oldest and most
powerful evil that exists in Hell. All humans who are in her path will be made a slave of
the Dark…"

"I'm guessing a stake won't do much to her, will it?" Xander interrupted. His only response
was a scowl from Giles. Smiling sheepishly, Xander made a motion to shut up. Giles motioned
for Willow to continue.

"…Those who try to interfere will have to face the wrath of the Devil himself. And that's all."
Willow looked up from the computer after she finished reading. Everyone around her was in deep
thought. Especially Giles, who locked himself in his office right after Willow finished.
