Future Shock: Part Two

by Elf

As soon as they got into the library Amanda told Angel, "Sit down, you're hurt."

Angel looked startled and frightened for a moment. Amanda pulled out a chair and said, "Look, my father's a doctor and I've picked up a few things over the years, I won't hurt you."

His brown eyes widened in horror. He said, "I'm okay, really."

Jennifer said, "No, you look all bloody and gross. Trust me, my dad's a nurse." Amanda blinked, surprized by this tid-bit of information. Jennifer said, "Sit down Big Guy, you might need stiches."

Amanda pulled out a chair and tried to push Angel into it. Giles said, "Please Angel, sit down." Angel looked at him for a moment and sank down into the chair.

Amanda asked, "Do you have a First Aid kit?"

"In the office, on the top shelf," Giles answered. Amanda went on search for the Kit.

As she was reaching for the white box with the red cross on it she heard Giles ask, "Jennifer, where did you learn to fight like that?"

Amanda walked out of the office just in time to see Jennifer give a lopsided grin and answer, "Kung-Fu movies, also my dad use to teach Kendo, so I learned a few things."

Angel asked, "I thought you said your father was a nurse?"

Mike rolled his blue eyes and said, "Jennifer's dad's a lot of things, he use to study wolves, be a chemist and an artist. He's like Wonder Man or something." Jennifer glared at Mike which caused him to say, "But he's the coolest guy I've ever met, and . . . never mind."

Angel asked, "Who are you two, I know who Giles is, but . . .?"

Jennifer said, "Well, I'm the kid in the ally who you shoved agenst the wall but you can call me Jennifer Darkfall."

Mike answered, "Mike Anderson."

Amanda walked over and opened the kit. Angel jerked away as she aproached. She saw that the wound was already half heeled. She gasped as he said, "See, it wasn't nothing."

She touched the wound and he jerked away. She grabbed him, his flesh was cold, like a corspe. She then placed her fingers on his neck, he tried to jump away. But she jumped back first, cringing in horror. He looked at her with sad dark eyes, like he knew what was going to happen.

She whispered, "You don't have a pulse, you're skin's cold, you're one of them."

Mike jumped away and took the cross from Jennifer. Jennifer rolled her eyes and groaned. Angel said, "Look, Amanda I can exsplain . . ."

Then Jennifer said, "You idiot, he's the good vampire."

Everyone looked at her, Amanda didn't think she heard her right. Jennifer went on, "Look, Amanda, I don't think he's evil. I *know* he's not evil. He's the good guy vampire."

Jennifer threw up her hands with a tiny cry and shouted, "There's always a good vampire you idiot. You didn't think they would all be blood-sucking fiends from hell, did you?"

Giles accualy chuckled. Angel staired at her in shock, he looked like he had just been insulted and not gallently defended.

Giles said, "Jennifer's assumption, desipite how uncooth, is true. You see, all a vampire basicly is a demon trapped inside a human corspe."

"Gee, that fits," Mike said, his tone turning hard. Amanda looked over at him and wondered why he had turned so cold.

Jennifer said, "Okeydoky, cool, then tell us the rest."

Giles smiled and said, "Well, Angel is special. A human soul resides in there as well, so he has a concious."

"How did he pull that off?" Mike snapped.

"Because he's special," Jennifer replied with a smile.

"The demon and the divinity," Amanda mumered without realizing it. Then she looked at Angel for the rest of the story.

Angel picked up the tail, "Accualy it was a curse. Gypsys."

Jennifer slammed her palm on the table and cursed, "Those damned gypsys, always gotta be messing with the bad ju-ju." Amanda glared at her, wishing her to keep quiet. Jennifer quietly said, "I'll be good now, and I won't talk."

Giles picked it up, "So Angel started to do good, helping five Slayers in his time, one of them being the most successful Slayer in history."

"Buffy," Angel quietly said. Amanda looked at him, his eyes had clouded with an infinate saddness when he said the girl's name.

Jennifer asked, "Okay, how do you know all this?"

Giles smiled and said, "Buffy was my grandfather's Slayer, he wrote about Angel often. There was even a stint that Angel had lost his soul and went on a vicious rampage before he had his soul restored to him."

"How did that happen?" Mike snapped.

Angel seemed lost in his own private world. These memorys were obviously very painful for him and Amanda pittied him. She wanted to take his hand and tell him that was in the past. She blinked, she didn't know where that came from.

Instead, Angel looked up, bitterly half-smiled and said, "It won't happen again, I made sure of that."

Amanda looked over to Mike, he was glaring and riged. Amanda asked, "Mike what's wrong?"

"Gabe," he spat angerly.

They all looked around, Gabe wasn't there. Jennifer's face lit up and said, "Well, lets go rescue him people."

"He's dead," Giles said bluntly.

"Or changed," Angel added. He went on, "Besides, it would be sucide to go back. Amanda's untrained, and I'm only one person."

"What about me?" Jennifer spat.

Angel smiled at her lightly and gently told her, "You're a brave young woman, but courage and tensaidy will only take you so far."

"Then pipe bombs will take it the rest of the way," she said.

Mike crumpled down into a chair and covered his face with his hands. Amanda didn't know Gabe that well, but she pittied Mike. Jennifer sat down and said, "Poor Captain Gay, he didn't deserve this."

Amanda asked, "What is a Slayer?"

"You obviously," Jennifer sarcastialy answered as she rolled her eyes.

Giles answered, "One girl chosen through out the world with the power to stop the vampires. To stop the spred of their numbers and fight the forces of Darkness."

Jennifer said, "Cool, where can you sign me up?"

Giles looked at her sharply and said, "This is not some game, this is real."

"She knows that Giles, this is just how she's handling it,"Angel said.

Jennifer nodded and said, "Yeah, you should of heard me when I was exspelled."

"You were *exspelled*?" Giles asked in disbeilf.

Jennifer threw up her hands and said, "Hey, it wasn't my fault that the chem lab blew up. Well, okay it was, but I didn't know that the . . . Yeah, I did."

"Lord help us," Giles grumbled.

Amanda asked, "What does this mean, please someone tell me?" She was near tears, she wanted to know.

Angel looked up at her, his eyes filled with pitty. Giles answered, "You must train, hone your skills so you will be ready."

Angel answered, "But, unlike most Slayers, you won't be alone."

"Yeah," Jennifer chirped.

Mike said, from beneath his hands, "Yeah."

Amanda sadly smiled at all of them.

Axelron looked at the boy. Hannah stroked his face and asked, "Master, can I have him?"

Axelron asked, "What is your name boy?"

"Gabriel Ross. Gabe Ross," he managed.

Axelron turned and said, "Hannah, take care of him for me."

As he walked out of the room the boy screamed.

Amanda walked into her house, thanking anyone that her father pulled late shift at the hospital. She creeped to her bedroom, undressed and curled up into bed. Instead of falling asleep, she looked out her window wide-eyed and afraid.

The next morning all three of them were in the library before school started. Giles walked in with a box of Puffy Cakes and four pints of milk. He presented the breakfest to the group and they started to eat. Jennifer asked, "Now what?"

Giles looked at Amanda and said, "Today we will start your training."

Amanda swallowed her milk and nodded. Then someone walked into the library, she was tall with long burgandy hair and pale skin. She was slender and graceful. Giles asked, "Do you need some help?"

Mike said, "Minerva get out of here, we're bussy."

Minerva looked at him sharply with bright, light green eyes. Jennifer said, "Hey Min."

Minerva replied, in a husky voice, "Hello Jennifer." Then she continued to look through the DVD collection and picked up a disk. She said, "I'd like to check this one out sir."

Giles walked over and scaned the disk into the computer. He told her, "It would be due in three weeks Miss Celistine."

She nodded and said, "Thank you," before she walked out of the library.

Amanda asked, "Who was that?"

Jennifer answered, "Minerva Celistine. She's pretty cool, just kinda distant."

Mike grumbled, "She's a bitch."

Giles blinked and realised, "She just checked out a DVD on witchcraft."

"Cool, I mean does magic exsist?" Jennifer egarly asked.

Giles rolled his eyes and answered, "Yes it does." Then he pointed a finger at her and sharply told her, "And I highly suggest that you do not start practcing that sort of thing. It is extreamly dangerous, and you could hurt someone."

Jennifer shrugged and said, "Hey, I don't need magic, I have Better Living Through Chemistry on my side. Pipe bombs, liquid thermite, nutron bombs, acid."

Amanda looked at her with a bewildered grin and asked, "Is that all you think about?"

"Naw," she answered before she adjusted her overalls. Jennifer was wearing ratty blue overalls over a tight black T-shirt that said, "FUTURE TERRORIST OF AMERICA" in bright red letters across her chest. She had a dog collar chain around her neck, and another chain drooping from her pocket. She had most of her hair in a sloppy pony tail ontop of her head with strands hanging in her grey eyes.

Mike was wearing a baggy red sweater over a tattered pair of kakkis. His blond hair was ruffled and there were circles under his blue eyes. Amanda looked down at her simple blue jeans, knee high boots and black T-shirt. They had their own style, Amanda didn't.

Jennifer stood up and said, "Well, we don't wanna be late to class. Mr. Bagshaw will chew out my ass if I'm late again."

Mike added, "Yeah, Ms. Fields will casterate me."

Jennifer smiled at him as they walked out of the room. She said, "You know she would probaly get a Happy by doing that." Mike gave Amanda a sad smile as he trailed out of the room.

Minerva Celistine drew the circle in salt, then she placed a symbol for Earth, Air, Water, and Fire at it's designated spot. She stood in the circle and began to chant. Evil was in Sunnydale, and she was going to try to stop it, if she could. She was a Druidic witch, not Wiccan, or practicing any of the Gypsy magics that may be lurking about. She called upon Nature for her Black Arts, none of the Old Ones, or any Goddesses or things of that relm.

Sunnydale was a Hellmouth, and it brought out all the power that a witch could wield. Minerva was just one in along line of Druid witches in her family. Her mother practiced the craft, and so did her grandmother and grandfather and so on. She was a natural talent, the Elements listened to her.

She closed her eyes and started to concentrate.

Amanda spun a roundhouse kick at a crate, shattering it. Giles gave her the signal to continue. She was getting a crash corse in martial arts, street fighting, and weaponry. The warehouse Giles had chosen to work in was perfict. Amanda jumped up and took out another crate with her fist.

She was getting the nack of this, and the thing was, that she wasn't even hurting her hands. She spied Jennifer and Mike entering the warehouse. Jennifer looked around with a savage smile and placed her CD player on the ground. She put one of the small disks in and turned it on. Heavy metal music started to blare.

Amanda got the beat of it and put her attacks in rythem with the music. When the song was over Amanda landed on the ground, panting hard. Jennifer and Mike started to clap. Amanda wearly grinned at them.

Also, Giles had been telling her the various ways to kill a vampire. Crosses, Holy Water, steaks, beheading, sunlight, fire, and garlic were what the vampire feared. They couldn't go into a home uninvited, but once invited they could go in and out as much as they pleased. There was some obscure poisen that could kill a vampire, but the cure for it was a Slayer's blood, so Amanda was going to scratch that one.

She pushed sweaty strands out of her face and took the bottle of cactus juice that Mike was handing her. She downed the reddish liqiud in one gulp. She sat down and asked Giles, "Now what?"

Giles said, "Now we patrol."

Amanda said, "Okay."

Jennifer said, "Cool, let me get the cross and we'll be set."

Giles shook his head and said, "I'm sorry Jennifer, it's best that you and Mike don't follow us."

Mike said, "But Giles, we can help."

Jennifer nodded and added, "Hey, remember me last night, I took out a vamp don't you know."

Giles rolled his eyes and said, "Yes, perhaps safety in numbers will be the best course of action."

Jennifer jumped up joyously in the air and Mike grinned.

Amanda, Giles, Jennifer, and Mike walked through Sunnydale. There was nothing at all. Then they saw Gabe sitting at a park bench. Mike ran to his friend, but Amanda felt something off about him. He wasn't human anymore.

Amanda shouted, "Mike!" But it was too late, Gabe had Mike in an unbreakable head lock. They all rushed as one to save them.

The Master Vampire apeared from the shadows. He said, "Ah, Slayer, we meet again. My name is Axelron."

Jennifer snapped, "What a gay name."

Axelron looked her dead in the eye and said, in a slow, hypnotic voice, "You will do what I say."

Jennifer wavered, her cross droped to the ground. Amanda shouted, "No!" Then she roundhouse kicked him in the chest. He blinked in surpise. Amanda slammed a wooden steak into his heart. He looked down at it for a moment before he colasped into ash.

The other vampires looked at her in disbelif and fled. Jennifer colasped to the ground, and Mike was struggling with Gabe. Mike said, "Oh, man, I'm sorry." Then he steaked his former friend in the heart. Amanda watched him sadly as he watched his former friend colasp into ash.

Amanda went over to him and hugged him. Mike said, "Sorry, buddy. See you again someday, huna?"

Jennifer stood up and said, "I'm sorry Gabe for calling you Captain Gay, Dude." Then she saluted the pile of ash.

As they were walking home, Amanda asked, "Are you two okay?"

They both nodded and said, "We helped killed a master vamp, we're cool." Then they turned to separate directions to their homes.

Giles said, "I could walk you home."

Amanda smiled and shrugged, "Naw, it's okay, and I know it's gonna get worse." With that she started to walk home.

She dug her keys out of her pocket when she sensed Angel. She said, "Hey Angel."

He leaned agenst her door and said, "You killed Axelron, good job."

She shrugged and leaned on the other side of the door. She studied his hansome profile, wondering what mysteries she would uncover about him. She said, "Thanks, but I lost a friend."

He nodded and said, "You couldn't help that, Amanda. You should know that."

She turned to face him and asked, "So why are you here?"

He held out his hand and said, "You're not alone, I'll be there for you." It was the image from her dream. Then she noticed a black velvet jewelry box in his hand.

With his free hand he placed it into her hand. She saw the ring again on his left hand and reminded herself to ask her father what it ment. He asked, "You were born in Scotland, wern't you?"

Amanda nodded as she opened the box. There was a silver Celtic fillegre cross nessled in the velvet. She said, "It's beautiful."

He grinned at her and said, "Every good vampire Slayer needs a cross."

"Thank you," she told him.

He smiled a full smile at her. Then he said, "Good night Amanda."

She replied, "Good night to you Angel, and sweet dreams."

He grinned as he faded into the shadows. She watched him breathlessly as he went. She knew she was going to have sweet dreams tonight. She smiled as she entered her home. She had sweet dreams that night.

The End!
