BTW, this is my first BTVS fanfic/poetry attempt, so please bear with me. This poem is based on events up to and including "I Only Have Eyes For You".

Darkness, evil, blackened humanity
reigns upon your words and face
where once was the look of one I loved
now a stranger has taken space.

The face of an angel
now twisted with hate and rage
Like a badger caught in a hunter's trap
or a panther in a cage.

You were my guardian, my haven
amongst the hounds of hell
yet now the demon has risen within you
woven you in its spell

Yet, there is a light among this darkness
A hope against all now
A glimmering star in the endless sky
For the one I knew so well

I have seen him in my dreams these nights
He comes to me when I sleep
He watches over me as I search for answers,
Guards me when I'm the most weak.

And just the other night, I saw,
As I gazed into the eyes of my love-turned-enemy.
I saw, deep in their velvet depths,
His eyes looking back at me.

Though I know others looked through our eyes then,
And the words spoken were not our own,
For the briefest moment in the space of time
It felt as though we were home.

I saw the light that still lives within you,
the brightness that is your soul.
Shining, in that moment,
Through that darkness that keeps it closed.

I know now there is still hope,
a chance for you to be free,
And when the time comes,
For the darkness to fade,
An angel will spread his wings.
