April Rain: Chapter 13

It was angry, terribly angry. It was hungry as well, but it didn’t say anything about that. Ethan leaned against the fender of the Chevy, smoking a cigarette. Just beyond his line of vision it sat on its haunches. Although Ethan couldn’t make out a humanly expression, from the tone in its voice he envisioned it frowning with distress.

“How could you let this happen?” it demanded. “ You have displeased me and I will be forced to punish you for it.”

In the darkened desert, Ethan braced himself. Then, through the pitch black silence, a terrible scream cut a line into the vastness.
