Destiny: What They Said

They told me that it was destiny, that this is what I was meant to be, what I was meant to do. I don’t want this to be my destiny; I don’t want this to be the way I go. I thought, bleeding onto the cold concrete. I tried to sit up, but a sharp pain in my side made me double over and collapse. I was stabbed, and I was dying.



I sat in the darkened room, waiting for the blonde girl to return. I had been brought here after this…thing attacked me in the park. It jumped me as I was walking, and all of a sudden this blonde girl tore it off of me and put a knife through its chest. She grabbed my arm, and without saying a word dragged me into this house nearby. She pushed me onto a couch, said to stay where I was, and walked into another room.

After a few minutes the girl returned, “I’m sorry about just dragging you here. I needed to get you here though. It’s not safe for you to be outside Kris.”

“What?” I asked, “What do you mean? And what the hell was that thing?”

“It was a demon,” She replied and added, “I’m Buffy, by the way.”

“A demon. Yeah, right. And how do you know my name?” I stood up and moved towards the door. “If this is some kind of practical joke, it isn’t funny!”

“No, stop!” She grabbed my arm. “Don’t go! Please. My friends will be here soon, just please hear us out!”

I sighed, “Fine,” I said slowly, “I’ll wait for your friends. But if I can’t believe you, I’m leaving.” I sat back down on the sofa, and waited.

In a few minutes, 2 guys and 2 girls walked into the house. One of them said, “Hi, I’m Willow. And this is Dawn, Xander, and Giles.” She gestured to the others. “Um…so what has Buffy told you?”

“Just that a demon attacked my while I was walking through the park. As in, an evil demon, like from a horror movie or something.” I said sarcastically.

“You may not believe this, but it’s completely true. And the faster you accept this the faster we can train you.” Giles said.

“Train me to be what?” I asked suspiciously.

“A slayer.” He replied.
