April Rain: Chapter 5

April was still crumpled on the ground when arms pulled her to her feet. Xander, from inside supported her. She felt tears well up in her eyes. For some reason she felt less like crying and more like screaming. She wanted to hurt someone.

She couldn’t believe what was happening. Celia had been fine only a few minutes ago and now she was gone. April heard the people around her talking hurriedly. They were anxious and upset.

The blonde who spoke with a British accent was near shouting when he cried, “Who the hell was that? Can’t we bloody go anywhere without this kind of thing!”

The redhead ran her fingers through her hair as she fired back, “Spike, shut the hell up. That man looked familiar. I’ve seen him before somewhere.”

Xander interjected, “So are the vampires kidnapping people now, they have to eat in private?”

“That wasn’t a vampire you idiot. Wouldn’t be freaking likely for a damn vampire to snatch a girl, tie her up and throw her in his damn car now would it?” Spike said with disgust.

“What the hell do you know you—“

“Will both of you shut up I’m trying to—“

“Don’t try to tell me what to do. I’m not your damn lackey—“

“Will you all just shut up!” shouted April. She wretched herself away from Xander. “I don’t what the hell you’re all talking about, but it doesn’t matter. Whoever that guy is, he took Celia.” Her voice dropped. She was afraid to ask the next question. “What is he going to do with her?”

Three young people faced her, each wearing an expression that was difficult to read. They looked uncomfortable and unwilling to tell her the truth.

“Look,” she said, in her most forceful tone. “You know something. Celia’s my friend and I don’t care what I have to do. I’m going to get her back, whether you help me or not.”

“Love,” Spike began slowly, “There’s some things we prob’ly ought to fill you in on.”
