~ The unnamed Club, Los Angeles California – 3 weeks later ~
Dawn sat on the floor of the stall. She leaned against the bathroom wall, breathing heavily, as she waited for the next wave to come. Feeling it rise up as lent over the bowel. Outside Faith and Wood waited in the club concerned. Eventually Dawn walked out of the bathroom and, like usual, goes back to work like nothing happened. Robin and Faith shared a look before Robin walked over to Dawn’s office. He knocked lightly and Dawn gestured for him to come in. Robin sat across form Dawn and gave her the principal look he had perfected in his time at Sunnydale high. Dawn looked at him curiously.
“What?” she asked
“You even have to ask?” he replied
Dawn sighed and went back to her paperwork.
“I’m okay Robin.”
“No your not,” he replied sharply, “you have been sick every day for the past fortnight.”
“It only happens in the morning,” Dawn replied, “I’m usually okay by the afternoons.”
“That’s not the point Dawn. You can’t simply ignore this and hope it’ll go away . . .”
Robin reached into his pocket and placed a piece of paper on her paperwork.
“. . . That’s why I made a doctors appointment for you.”
Dawn looked up at him annoyed.
“I’ve got a lot of work to do here I don’t have time to . . .”
“Faith an I can cover the load until you get back,” Robin said, “come on Dawn its only one hour you’ll find out what’s wrong, solve it, then you can get back to work.”
Dawn sighed. She knew he was right. Dawn still had a tingle in the back of her mind that something was off and she couldn’t ignore it any longer.
~ Doctors office, Los Angeles California – two hours later ~
Dawn sat impatiently in the office of Dr. Byers. She didn’t like the way the doctor smiled at her when she was describing her symptoms. A moment later the doctor returned with a medical report in his hand. He sat back down in his seat and looked at her with the broadest smile on his face.
“I just got the test results back and I think I know why you’ve been sick every morning,” he said happily handing her the results, “congratulations.”
Dawn looked at the doctor confused. She looked over the medical report and her looked shifted to shock. This worried Dr. Byers.
“You did plan for this?” he asked seriously, “maybe you should discuss with the father about the next step.”
“T-this . . . this isn’t right,” Dawn struggled, “you got the wrong report.”
“I can assure you that that report is yours.”
Dawn breathing started to quicken. Dr. Byers senses that Dawn was slowly slipping into shock.
“I can recommend a good councilor. They can help you.” he continued
Dawn looked up to Dr. Byers slowly.
“No,” she replied distantly, “There’s only one person who can help me.”
~ LAX airport, Los Angeles California ~
“You know Buff when I offered to help you with your bags I thought you’d at least carry one.” Xander said as he struggled with the three suitcases
“Then how would I carry my handbag?” Buffy replied amused
Giles laughed softly as the three of them walked through the terminal. Xander gave the both of them a look.
“I’m just a big joke to you people aren’t I?” he asked
Buffy pretended to think.
“Not a big joke Xander,” she smirked, “More like a little one, you know, like the ones you find in Christmas crackers.”
“Okay, I get it, big yucks on Xander but one day I’m gonna get you to carry something heavy then well see who’s miss pun.”
Buffy smiled at him. Just then her cell rang. She pulled it out of her handbag and checked the number. With a big smile on her face she answered it.
“Hey Dawnie, I was just about to call you, we’re at the airport so . . .”
The smile on Buffy’s face dropped. She motioned the others to stop as she listened to her sister.
. . . Alright we can be there in thirty minutes. Just relax sweetie we’re on our way.”
Buffy hung up the phone. Giles moved over to her.
“Something the matter?” he asked
“Dawn want’s to see us now,” Buffy replied, “Giles, she sounds scared.”
The three of them drove swiftly through the traffic as a result it only took them twenty minutes to reach Dawns house. Buffy knocked on the door and Faith answered.
“Hey B.” Faith said seriously
“Where is she?” Buffy asked
Faith opened the door and motioned towards the lounge. Buffy bolted through the door as fast as she could. In the lounge Dawn sat on the sofa just staring at the medical report. Buffy moved quickly and sat down next to her.
“Dawnie?” she asked softly
Look up sharply as if she just snapped out of a coma. She looked at her sister and realized she had been crying for a while.
“Buffy.” she said in extreme relief and hugged her sister tightly.
After a moment of this they separated and Buffy held her hands tightly. She was shaking, which wasn’t a good sign.
“Dawnie what’s wrong?” Buffy asked
Dawn tried to reply but was still too choked up with emotion. All she could do was too intricate at the medical report. Giles picked it up from the coffee table and read it.
“Oh good lord!” He exclaimed, “Is this accurate?”
Dawn nodded. Buffy looked at the both of them seriously.
“What?” she asked
Dawn took in a deep breath and looked into Buffy’s eyes.
“I-I’m pregnant.” Dawn forced out
Buffy was shocked. For the longest time the group remained silent none of them knowing what to say. Buffy’s mind raced to try and find the right thing to say.
“Did you . . . Ah . . . did you love him?” She asked, “The father.”
Buffy sensed a rise in Dawns panic level.
“T-There isn’t one,” Dawn replied, “I haven’t been with a guy for a long time.”
Giles looked at Dawn curiously. He knelt down next to Dawn.
“What do you mean there isn’t a father?”
Dawn tried to collect herself emotionally. She took in a couple of deep breaths to try and remain centered.
“About three weeks I, Robin and Faith went to San Francisco to get supply for the club only . . .”
“Only what?” Buffy asked
“I . . . Don’t remember anything between being at the supply house and waking up the next day.”
Buffy and Giles looked at each other. Buffy moved in closer to Dawn and stroked her hair lovingly.
“Do you think you were . . . raped?”
“I don’t know,” Dawn replied in a state of panic, “I can’t remember anything, I mean, I try and all I see is nothing.”
The tears begin to form in Dawns. Buffy frowned and hugs her sister tightly.
“It’s alright now Dawnie I’m here,” Buffy said, “We’re gonna find out what happened I promise!”
Robin sat down next to Dawn while the others huddled in another room to discuss what happened.
“Any theories Giles?” Buffy asked
Giles pushed up his glasses and looked pensive.
“Off the top of my head it could be any number of things,” he said, “Demon impregnation, possession, magical influence . . .”
“Let’s not forget bible stuff,” Xander replied.
“Personally I don’t care,” Faith snapped, “I wanna get my hands on who ever did this to her!”
“Then we need to find out what happened!” Buffy said in a commanding tone, “We’ll back track to the supply house and work our way from there. I’m not gonna accept divine conception. Something did this to her and I want to know who!”
The group looked at Buffy awkwardly. Buffy frowned again and folded her arms.
“When I give a talk like this usually it ends with you guys running around looking in books and stuff.”
“Well, in the past, yes that’s what would have happened but times are different now Buffy,” Giles replied, “We have other slayers to consider now. We are already late for picking up the next group of recently activated.”
“Yeah and you still need to approve some of the plans for the club.” Xander continued, “Not to mention you promised that you would check in on the L.A. slayers.”
“So that’s it,” Buffy snapped, “’Sorry Dawn we can’t help you your problem doesn’t fit in our day planner’? Guys this is my sister!”
“And we are going to investigate this Buffy,” Giles replied, “but for the moment there are other obligations that need to be seen to.”
“You know I’m in if it means pounin’ big bad’s B. but G-mans right.” Faith commented
“I don’t believe you guys. This is Dawn we’re talking about! My only family! I can’t just sit back and ignore this!”
“Buffy this is the first time there have been this many slayers. We are still in the trial process any mistake we make now could be fatal.” Giles insisted
Buffy glared at her Watcher.
“I need to know what happened Giles, Hell; Dawn needs to know what happened!”
Faith thought about the situation.
“Why don’t we get help?” She asked
Buffy shot a look over to Faith.
“Who Faith? Who could possibly . . .” Buffy replied
She noticed the look in Faith’s eyes and knew instantly.
“. . . Oh no not him.”
“C’mon B! You know he can do this.”
“He signed over to the other team,” Buffy replied, “We can’t trust him anymore.”
“I do. He was the only one looking out for me when no one else would.”
Buffy looked over to Dawn who was still extremely distressed. She hated the idea with a passion but there was no other option.
~ The Hyperion Hotel, Los Angeles California – 1 hour later ~
“Angel Investigation,” Gunn said as he answered the phone.
Angel watched curiously from the other side of the room as Gunn frowned angrily before he slammed the phone down.
“I’m guessing that wasn’t a case.” he commented
“Yeah, well, not unless you wanted to know why we should change our long distance service.”
Angel smirked slightly. Just then they heard the front door close Angel looked over to see Faith standing in the doorway. Angel closed his book and stood up.
“Faith,” he said happily, “this is unexpected.”
“Yeah it’s good to see you Angel,” Faith replied walking down the steps into the lobby, “But this aint a social call. Got a job for you.”
Angel put on his serious face as he motioned Gunn to join him.
“Alright what’s the problem?” he asked
“Hello Angel” a voice said from behind Faith.
Angel looked over to see Buffy and Dawn standing in the doorway. Angel looked shocked.
“Buffy.” he exclaimed
Buffy lead dawn into the lobby but kept a cautious eye on the vampire which Angel sensed.
“It’s been a while,” he continued, “you still working in Rome?”
“Not here to socialize Angel, like Faith said, we need your help.”
“With what?”
Buffy handed Dawns medical report over to Angel who read it. He looked up to Dawn in surprise.
“Wow this is good news,” he commented just before he saw Dawns expression, “right?”
“That’s why we’re here.” Buffy replied
The five of them sat around Angel’s desk as Dawn retold the story. Angel leaned back on his chair and absorbed the information. He looked over to the mother to be.
“So you remember nothing?” he asked
Dawn shook her head.
“Did anything happen before the blank spot?”
Dawn thought back.
“I remember it was hot and I got a drink from the cooler that was in the room.”
Gunn and Angel looked over to each other.
“You thinkin’ what I’m thinkin’?” Gunn commented
“Some kind of sedative or sleeping pill.” Angel replied
“Dawn said she wasn’t feeling right.” Faith commented
Dawn looked over to Faith curiously
“When?” she asked
“Right before me and Robin left.”
“You sure it was her?” Angel asked
“If it aint her it was a damn good impression.” Faith replied
Angel stood up and threw on his jacket.
“Gunn go find Spike and Illyria,” he ordered, “We’ll head over to the warehouse and see what we can dig up.”
Angel walked over to Dawn and knelt down in front of her.
“Don’t worry I won’t stop until I find out what happened.”
Dawn smiled slightly. Angel got to his feet and started to head out the door.
“Angel.” Buffy called out
Angel stopped and turned. Buffy still had her serious face on.
“Thanks.” She replied
~ The warehouse, San Francisco California – a few hours later ~
Angel slammed open the door to the warehouse and the group piled in. They looked around in shock to discover the place was completely empty not only that but there was a thick layer of dust covering every broken table and chair inside.
“You sure this is the right address mate?” Spike asked
“Positive.” Angel replied
“This has got to be the crappiest product display I have ever seen.” Gunn commented as he dusted off one of the tables.
Angel sniffed the air. He couldn’t smell anybody else being in this building. From what he could tell they were the first ones inside in a long time.”
Illyria walked around the room slowly.
“Something is not right.” she said
“That’s a bloody understatement blue.” Spike commented
“The energy in this building are wrong, they are masked, altered, what we are seeing is not correct.”
Angel looked at Illyria curiously. He sniffed the air again but still sensed nothing new. Angel pulled out his cell phone and dialed.
Back at the club Faith was tidying away some of the training weapons when her phone went off. She answered it.
“Yeah?” she asked
“Hey it’s me,” Angel commented
Faith stopped what she was doing and paid full attention.
“Angel! You find something?”
“More like didn’t find,” Angel replied looking around the room.
“What are you sayin’”
“From what we can tell so far,” Angel replied seriously, “There’s never been a supply warehouse at this address.”
