I Want This To Work: 1

by Spikes Queen

Spike walked Buffy home and paused on the front porch. “I had fun tonight, Spike,” she said.

“Me too,” Spike said, smiling.

Buffy leaned forward and kissed him softly. “You gunna be okay tonight?” She asked.

Spike gulped as he stared at her. “Yeah,” he said, softly. “I’ll have Xander call you if something
happens.”

Buffy kissed him again. “I’ll see you tomorrow,” she whispered.

“Goodnight Buffy,” he whispered, as she opened the front door.

“Goodnight Spike,” Buffy said, smiling as she closed the front door.

Buffy leaned against the closed door with a smile. “You seem happy,” Dawn said, from the doorway of the kitchen.

“I had a nice time with Spike,” Buffy said, looking at her sister.

“Did you guys kiss?” Dawn asked.

“Yes,” Buffy said, dreamily.

“So you like him?” Dawn asked.

“Yeah,” Buffy answered. “I do. I wanna try again with him.”

Dawn smiled. “That’s great!” She squealed. “Is he coming over tomorrow?”

“Probably,” Buffy said.

“Good. Because I’m going to talk to him,” Dawn said.

“I think he’d like that,” Buffy said, before going upstairs.

The next day Buffy was in the kitchen when there was a knock on the front door.

“I got it,” Dawn said, going to the door. “Hi, Spike,” she said, opening the door.

“Hi Dawn,” Spike said, softly.

“Come in,” Dawn said, moving to the side.

Spike cautiously went in.

Dawn closed the door and hugged the blonde vampire tightly. “I missed you and I’m not mad at you anymore.”

Spike hugged her. “I missed you too,” he said, kissing her hair.

“You guys done yet?” Buffy asked, pretending to be bored.

“I’ll leave you guys alone to do your thing,” Dawn said, going upstairs.

Buffy smiled and kissed Spike softly. “How was your day?” She asked.

“Boring. You weren’t there,” Spike said, smiling. “How about yours?”

“I missed you,” Buffy said, with a slight pout.

Spike kissed her pouty lips. When he pulled back he noticed the dark circles under her eyes. “You’re tired,” he said, softly.

“No I’m not,” Buffy said, knowing he’d leave if she went to bed.

“I’ll tuck you in,” Spike suggested.

Buffy smiled. “I can get behind that,” she said, sliding her hand into his.

Spike and Buffy went upstairs and Spike waited patiently as Buffy changed into her pajamas.

Buffy came out and sat on her bed. “How are you gunna tuck me in?” She teased.

Spike smiled and sat behind her. Gently he ran his hands over her back.

Buffy moaned in pleasure. “That feels good,” she mumbled.

Spike rubbed her back until she leaned against him asleep.

With care he laid her down and pulled the covers up to her chin. “Goodnight Pet,” he whispered, kissing her forehead.

Buffy smiled as Spike quietly left.

The next morning, Buffy woke with a smile. The phone on her bed gave a shrill scream. “Hello?” She answered.

“Buff? Its Xander. I have to go out of town for a couple of days,” he said.

“Have fun,” Buffy said. “It’s be nice to get away from Sunnydale for awhile.”

“What about Spike?” Xander asked.

“I’ll take care of it,” Buffy said. “When are you leaving?”

“An hour,” Xander said.

“I’ll be right there,” she said and hung up.

Buffy walked into Xander’s apartment 45 minutes lather. There were 2 suitcases in the living room and Xander was writing down phone numbers.

“Hey Buff. These are the numbers I’ll be at. Only if there’s an emergency. This is a big business deal that could help me out a lot,” he said.

“Okay,” Buffy said. “Do you want anything done with you apartment? When the sunsets, I’m taking Spike to my place.”

“Nope. Just turn everything off and lock up,” Xander said, picking up his suitcases. “I’ll see ya in a few days.”

“Bye,” Buffy said, with a little wave as he left.

Buffy went to Spike’s room and he was still in his clothes from the night before. She crept over and slid next to her.

Spike instinctively knew who it was and made them more comfortable. Soon she was dozing lightly next to him.

When Spike woke, Buffy wasn’t sleeping but she was resting next to him.

Spike smiled and kissed her forehead. “Buffy not that I’m not thrilled that you came to see me but what are doing here?”

“Xander had to go away for a few days so you’re staying with me,” Buffy said, opening her eyes.

“Oh really?” Spike asked. “Where do you plan on putting me?”

“With me,” Buffy said, in an obvious tone. “Is that okay? I mean we’re going to be good.”

“We are huh?” Spike asked.

Buffy smiled and kissed him softly. “I promise we’ll wait until we’re both ready.”

Spike smiled and kissed her again. “I know things are getting better between us but I really want things to work this time,” he said.

“And it will,” Buffy said. “I promise.”

“I don’t want things to get rocky because of sex. I’m not going to do that to you again,” she said. “I care about you too much to hurt you again.”

“I love you,” Spike whispered, so softly, Buffy would have missed it had it not been for her senses.

“You do? Still?” She asked.

“Yeah. Always,” Spike said.

Buffy smiled. “I might be able to say it to you one day but that day isn’t today,” she said, looking at him. “Is that okay?”

Spike smiled and kissed her. “Yeah it is.”
