2nd Chance Given: 1
by Spikes Queen
“You know, Anya’s probable seducing R.J. right now,” Buffy said, as Spike climbed out of the car.
“Oh my God! You think so?” Willow asked.
Spike looked over and saw Dawn laying on the tracks with a train coming. He pushed past the girls and ran toward her.
“Dawn!” Buffy screamed.
Spike put on a burst of speed and got to Dawn. He pushed her up and pulled her off the tracks. Dawn collapsed in his arms, crying.
Buffy ran over to them. “Dawn?” She asked. “Are you okay?”
Spike rubbed Dawn’s back and looked at Buffy. “Come on Dawn,” he said, easing her up. “Eyes get you home.”
Dawn wiped her eyes. “I’m sorry,” she whispered.
“For what?” Spike asked.
“For being so mean to,” she said.
Spike kissed her forehead. “Don’t worry about it,” he said.
Dawn sniffled and looked at Buffy. “Did you kill the principle?” She asked.
“No. Spike stopped me,” Buffy said, giving Spike a small smile.
“Can Spike come how with us?” Dawn asked.
“Dawn!” Buffy and Spike exclaimed.
“What?” Dawn asked. “You guys seem to be getting along and he hadn’t been over for a civil visit in like forever. Please?”
“Fine,” Buffy said. “But not too late because you have school tomorrow.”
“Sweet,” Dawn squealed. She pulled Spike back to the car. “Come on. We have lots to talk about.”
Buffy smiled a little and followed them to the car.
On the way home, Buffy began to relax in Spike’s presence.
At the house, Dawn drug Spike to the kitchen and they made hot chocolate.
Buffy changed her clothes and joined them. “Having fun?”
Dawn smiled. “Are you gunna go patrolling?”
“No,” Buffy said, sitting at the counter next to Spike.
Spike looked at the clock, it was 9:30. He’s leave in ½ hour. “What was so great about this boy?”
Buffy looked at Dawn who was avoiding her gaze. “Ask Buffy. She was having sex with him,” she said.
Spike looked at Buffy with his eyes full of hurt.
Buffy looked at him. “It was a spell. I didn’t know,” she said.
“I didn’t say anything,” Spike said, softly.
“But I could see it in your eyes,” she said. “I know what its like to see someone you love in someone else’s arms.”
“I doubt it,” Spike said.
“I saw Angel with Faith. You with Anya. Riley with Faith. Riley with vampire whores, you with Dru, Angel with Dru. I’ve seen it enough,” she said.
Spike looked at her with a guilty gaze. “Buffy…”
“No, its okay. We’ve both been hurt enough. We don’t need to be hurt again but going over the past. We can’t fix it but we can make the future better,” she said, her hand covering his.
“Buffy, we don’t have a future,” he said, taking his hand away from her.
Buffy flinched as if she had been slapped. “We could,” she said, softly.
Spike shook his head. “No, we cant,” he said.
Dawn looked at them before giving Spike a hug. “I’m going to bed,” she said. “Thanks for saving
me.”
“Anytime, Nibblet,” Spike said, kissing her hair.
Dawn smiled and went upstairs.
“I better go,” Spike said, picking up his mug.
“You don’t have to,” Buffy said.
“Yeah I do,” he said, rinsing his mug and setting it in the sink. “Buffy, as soon as I figure out what’s wrong with me and how to fix it, I’m gunna go.”
Buffy’s eyes widened as she realized what he mean. “You just got here,” she said.
Spike looked at her. “I just wanted you and Dawn to know how sorry I was. I wanted to see you guys one last time before I left forever,” he said.
“We know you’re sorry and we don’t want you to leave again,” she said, going over to him.
“Buffy this is hard enough for me as it is. I’ve never wanted to leave you and now I am. This is the hardest think I’ve ever had to do, so please let me do it right,” he whispered.
“Where would you go?” Buffy asked.
“A long way away. Out of your life forever,.” he said, his voice catching.
Tears welled in Buffy’s eyes. “You don’t have to,” she whispered, again.
Spike frowned as his heart broke. “Buffy, please don’t do this,” he said.
“Spike, if you leave, it’ll kill me,” she said, tears flowing down her face.
Spike moved away from her. “I have to do this,” Spike said.
“No, you don’t,” Buffy said.
“I can’t stay,” Spike said, looking away from her.
“Why?” Buffy asked, going over to him.
“Because I can’t be here knowing I cant have you the way I want,” he said.
“You want me to love you,” Buffy said, softly, wrapping her arms around herself.
Spike crossed his arms as if to protect himself. “Yeah,” he said, softly. “I know you never will.”
“But I can. Spike, last year was not good for us. I was afraid because you can love me without a soul. Angel couldn’t so why can you?” She asked,
softly.
Spike frowned. “You were scared because I love you more then Angel does?”
“Yeah,” Buffy whispered. “Riley left because I didn’t love him. Then I did the same thing to you and it hurts.”
“There’s only room for Angel in your heart and I’m going to respect that,” he said, softly.
“But that’s not true,” Buffy said, desperately. “There’s plenty room for you in my heart.” She paused for a moment. “Did you stop loving me or something?”
Spike’s eyes widened. “I never could,” he
said.
“Then give me a chance. Please?” She whispered.
Spike eyed her carefully. “Just lemme think about it,” he said.
Buffy nodded and wiped her tears. “I’ll accept that,” she said.
Spike gave her a small smile. “Go get some sleep,” he said, going to the front door.
“Goodnight Spike,” she said, turning the lights off.
“Goodnight Buffy,” Spike said, leaving.
Buffy sighed heavily and went up to bed where she fell into a dreamless sleep.
The next night on patrol, Buffy only staked three fledglings before going home.
Spike was there talking to Dawn about some new boy she had an interest in.
Buffy came into the living room and collapsed on the sofa next to Spike. “Rough night?”
“Boring,” Buffy mumbled.
“Buffy, there’s this guy named Chris and he asked me out. Can I go with him on Friday?” Dawn asked.
“After what you pulled?” Buffy asked.
“Come on, Buffy,” Dawn whined. “It was a spell and you did the same thing.”
Buffy looked at Spike, then at Dawn. “I wanna meet him first,” she said.
Dawn smiled and hugged her sister. “This is so great. You’re the coolest,” she squealed.
Dawn hugged Spike also. “I’m going to bed. Goodnight guys,” she said.
“Goodnight Nibblet,” Spike said, looking at Buffy. “I thought about it.”
“Oh really?” Buffy asked, smiling.
“Yeah, but we gotta go slow,” Spike said.
Buffy smiled and gave him a soft kiss. “Sounds good.”
