Another Time, Another Place: Awake

by Fighter78

“Connor and Cordelia couldn’t come today, Connor wasn’t feeling well so she stayed home with him. Can you believe he’ll be three in two days? I wish you could see him, Spike.” Spike heard a voice from far away say.

“I can’t believe you had ended up here about a month or so before Cordy was due. I just wish you’d wake up though. People miss you. Your dad went back to England, Xander’s off at some site doing construction, Willow is married to Oz, think I told you that before though, Joyce still won’t come, it’s to hard. Spike, if you’re going to wake up for anybody do it for Buffy, it’s what she’d want.” Spike heard the far away voice say. The voice was getting louder as if he was getting closer or something. It felt like he was coming out of a dream, a dream he’d been in a long time.

“Sir, visiting hours end in ten minutes.” Spike heard a female voice say.

“Thanks miss. I should be out here by then.” The voice said. Spike recognized it, but couldn’t place it, probably didn’t help that he brain was all foggy.

“Well, old pal, I guess I should be going.” The voice said and something clicked in Spike that he didn’t want to be left alone. He started to slowly open his eyes and let out what sounded almost like a moan.

“Angel!” Spike said when he saw the face of the voice. His own voice at that moment sounded surprised and weak.

“Spike, you’re awake. I’ll call the doctor.” Angel said as he went to the doorway of the room and called for a doctor. As Spike looked around the room while Angel called the doctor he found he was in a hospital room.

“The doctor is coming. How do you feel?” Angel asked somewhat excitedly as he came over to the bed.

“Rather confused.” Spiked said weakly and honestly. He was trying to figure what he was doing in a hospital and why Angel was alive and caring for him.

“That’s understandable.” Angel said and then the doctor came in to check on him.

“What’s the last thing you remember, son?” the doctor asked as he checked Spike’s vitals.

“Um, fighting a demon in an ally way and Angel here getting turned to dust.” Spike said and when he did both the doctor and Angel looked at each other.

“That was probably just a dream. None of that ever happened.” The doctor said looking at Spike with a sad look on his face.

“Can he go home soon, doctor?” Angel asked as he looked at the doctor hopefully. Spike would have made some comment but was actually pretty tired.

“He can go home as soon as tomorrow. We want to keep him here over night to make sure everything is top notch. We wouldn’t him slipping into another coma, I’m sure.” The doctor said and Spike was almost sure that he had seen Angel give a sort of shutter when the doctor mentioned something about slipping into a coma. He didn’t get what the doctor meant by it but he kept his mouth shut. As he thought more and more about the doctor though he realized that he had to be checking vitals that existed which meant he had a heartbeat and was human again.

“I’ll let you two catch up and tell the front desk and the nurses that you can stay another hour.” The doctor said and then left.

“Angel, what happened? How are you alive and am I human?” Spike asked Angel sounding rather confused and tired.

“Spike, I’ve always been alive and you’ve always been human. I think there’s that small chance that you were dreaming while in your coma.” Angel tried to explain.

“Oh.” Was all Spike said. He very confused and his eyelids were threatening to close on him.

“I’ll let you get some sleep and I’ll see you tomorrow.” Angel said and then left, leaving Spike to sleep and think about what had just happened, but not a lot of thinking got done because the moment Angel left the room Spike had his eyes closed and was in a peaceful slumber.

A/N: Hope you all like it. I promise in chapters to come you'll find out what happened but not quite yet.
