Angie tapped her bear foot anxiously on the front steps of the school as she hugged herself nervously. After the panicked call to her mother she threw on her gym clothes and bolted out to the front of the school. Veronica sat next to her feeling more helpless then usual.
“When did it happen?” Veronica asked
“During math,” Angie replied, “I just put my head down for a second then I was on the football.”
Veronica rubbed her forehead as she tried to think.
“I’ll tell the principal that you’re sick,” veronica said thinking on her feet, “We go home and try to work something out.”
“I don’t think that’ll work Mom. What if I fall asleep and waked up somewhere else in the school? How are we gonna explain that?”
“I’m trying my best sweetie. I know how hard this is for you.”
Angie looked up at her mother angrily.
“No you don’t! Do have any clue what it’s like for me!” Angie snapped at her, “I wake up and I’m outside Naked! Do you know how humiliating that is? Now everybody at school is going to think I’m a big slut!”
Veronica frowned and hugged Angie tightly. She never wanted to admit it to herself but there was nothing she could do to help. The sound of the front door of school closing broke the moment. They both turned to see Rebecca standing close by.
“I though I saw you come out here,” Rebecca said in a supportive tone, “We never made an appointment.”
“Excuse me who are you?” Veronica asked
“Mrs. Whitfield I’m the school councillor. You must be Angie’s mother.”
“Veronica Collins,” veronica said helping Angie to her feet
“Nice to meet you, actually, while you’re here why don’t I talk to the both of you?”
Angie and Veronica looked at each other for a moment. Veronica saw a look in her daughter’s eyes she didn’t like.
“I’m sorry she’s not feeling very well I’m going to take her to the doctors.”
“It’ll only take a moment.”
“Mom,” Angie said insistently
Veronica looked from Angie to Rebecca.
“Alright be let’s not taking to long.”
Rebecca nodded and guided them both through the door. Down the hallway Veronica looked at her daughter seriously.
“Don’t do it honey.” she said
“Mom I want to tell her.” Angie replied
“She won’t understand Angie and she might call someone who’ll take you away from me.”
“I gotta tell someone, I don’t know, maybe she can help.”
They arrived at Rebecca's office and all three sat down. Rebecca interlaced her fingers and rested them on the desk.
“I just want to start by saying that nobody’s judging you Angie,” Rebecca said in a calm and even tone, “We just want to get to the bottom of the incident.”
Rebecca noted the resistant look Angie’s mother was giving her. Angie took a deep breath and colleted her thoughts.
“This weird thing happens to me,” Angie said sadly, “It started when I was twelve.”
“What weird thing is that?”
“Okay, this is gonna sound really crazy, but when I go to sleep I . . . travel.”
Rebecca looked at Angie confused.
“What do you mean by travel?”
“I don’t know how it works but I go to sleep in one place and wake up in another one.”
Rebecca thought about this for a moment then nodded.
“I know this seems real to you Angie but dreams . . .”
“It’s not a dream!” Angie snapped, louder then she had liked, “This really happens to me! Like with the football field.”
“So you just travel there?”
“Yeah.”
Rebecca paused for a moment. She saw the fear in Angie’s eyes which was enough to tell her that she was telling the truth.
“Let me get this clear in my head,” Rebecca continued, “you go to sleep, you take off your clothes and you walked out onto the field.”
“I don’t think I walked and I definitely didn’t take off my clothes. I just sought of wake up places and there not there. They just disappeared like magic.”
Rebecca looked over to Veronica.
“Do you know anything about this?” She asked
“I think the fever is getting to her.” Veronica replied
“MOM!” Angie yelled
“I just want to take her home.”
Rebecca looked at the both of them. If she was going to get to the bottom she needed Angie alone.
“Alright but when you’re feeling better I want you to make an appointment.” Rebecca replied
Veronica nodded and tried to take Angie hand. The teenager yanked it out of the way and gave her mother the look of death.
“I really happened!” she yelled, “Ask that Nolan kid he knows.”
This caught Rebecca’s attention.
“Nolan Galloway?” she asked
“I don’t know his last name.” Angie replied
Veronica quickly ushered Angie out of the room leaving Rebecca pondering over the entire conversation.
Nolan rushed into the library. Inside Nigel was teaching Belle the slayer theory when the boy threw down his backpack and stormed up to the watcher.
“We’ve got a thing!” he said hurriedly
Nigel looked at him confused.
“A thing?” he replied
“Yeah,” Nolan replied, “a big thing!”
Nigel and belle shared a look.
“What sought of thing is it?”
“Okay, I think there’s something wrong with the new girl.” He said
“Did she try and eat you?” Belle mused
“No,” Nolan replied annoyed, “this weird thing happened during math.”
While Nolan was talking Belle noticed something hanging out of Nolan’s backpack. She reached down and pulled out a bra and a pair of panties from his bag. She looked at her brother in concern.
“Ah . . . Nolan.” She said cautiously, “Why do you have girl’s underwear in your bag?”
“There not mine there hers.” Nolan replied a little too casually
This made Belle worry even more.
“So why do you have them?”
“Because she left them behind with the rest of her clothes.”
“Pardon me?” Nigel asked
“This is what I’m trying to tell you! The new girl just vanished right in the middle of class!”
“And you have her clothes.” Belle continued
“Yeah.”
“Don’t you think she’d be looking for them? Maybe because, I don’t know, she’s naked!”
Nolan looked at her sister confused for a moment. Suddenly the penny dropped.
“Oh hadn’t thought of that.” He replied snatching the underwear back from Belle
He dashed out of the room leaving Nigel and Belle in a state of confusing.
“Are you quite sure he wasn’t dropped on the floor when he was a child?” Nigel asked
“I really don’t know.” Belle replied
Rebecca and Heidi waited patiently round the side of the school. Heidi looked extra nervous because it’s not every day you have a goddess examine you. Rebecca smiled as the familiar bright flash of light appeared and Willow stood in font of her. Willow rushed up to Rebecca.
“I got your message are you okay? Is everything alright?” Willow said
“I’m fine Will this isn’t about me,” Rebecca replied
Rebecca guided Heidi in front of her.
“Willow this is Heidi. She’s a seer, a very powerful one, having a little problem with control thought.”
Willow smiled at Heidi who looked at her inquisitively.
“Hey there.” Willow said cheerfully
“I was wondering if you could have a look at her.” Rebecca asked
“Sure,” Willow replied, “What am I looking for?”
“We’re trying to find out where her ability comes from. If you could help.”
“No problem,” Willow replied, “You seem to be holding up well.”
“I’m not really feeling it yet.”
“I can’t imagine how you felt when Alex told you.”
Rebecca looked at Willow curiously. All of a sudden she wasn’t sure they were talking about the same thing.
“Told me what?”
“You know that thing about Penny.”
Rebecca opened her eyes wide. Willow suddenly had a sinking feeling.
“Penny? You found her? Where is she?” Rebecca asked anxiously
“Oh god, he hasn’t told you has he?” Willow replied
Alex sat quietly in his office. The tears were streaming heavily out of his eyes as he held the picture of his dead sister in his hand. He heard the sound of the portal opening and looked up. Rebecca rushed out and hugged him tightly.
“Oh sweetie I just heard!” Rebecca said, “I am so sorry.”
Alex hugged her back.
“I-I was going to call Beck,” Alex struggled, “I just, I mean, I haven’t . . .”
Rebecca looked into his eyes caringly.
“Hey, its okay, you don’t need to explain it to me.”
“I almost had her back Rebecca. I almost had her . . . and now I’m never going to see her again.”
Alex dropped his head. Rebecca stroked his hair lovingly as she fought back her own emotions to stay strong for her husband.
That evening Angie was sitting on the couch watching TV. Veronica came out with a bowl of ice-cream and handed it to her.
“Here you go honey.” She said
Angie brushed it away and continued to watch.
“I know you’re still mad at me,” Veronica said, “You have to understand I did this for you. That councillor didn’t look like the type of person who could handle this type of news.”
Angela glared at her mother again
“You didn’t give her the chance mom!” Angie yelled, “You made me look crazy!”
“I’m sorry but I had to do it. I don’t want you to be taken away from me.”
Angel sighed impatiently. She closed her eyes and rubbed her forehead. Veronica dropped her head sadly.
“You’re the most precious thing to me Angie if anything happened I wouldn’t . . . “
Veronica looked up and became shocked. Angie had vanished again leaving her clothes in the position she was sitting. Veronica jumped to her feet.
“Oh god no,” she exclaimed
Rebecca sat across from Alex at the dinner table. Alex hung his head low as Rebecca caressed his hands.
“I called Mom,” Alex said
“How did she take it?” Rebecca asked
Alex looked up at her.
“She broke down,” he replied, “I-I didn’t know what to do. What am I supposed to do?”
“Greave that’s all you need to do right now,” Rebecca replied, “I’ll talk to the Dean for you.”
Alex smiled lightly and nodded. A bright flash of light caught his attention. Alex looked over Rebecca's shoulder in concern.
“Rebecca.” he said gesturing to the lounge room.
Rebecca turned her head. She was shocked to see Angie curled up on there coffee table. Alex looked at Rebecca.
“What’s going . . .”
“Shh,” Rebecca replied, “I want you to get the spare blanket and some pillows from the closet.”
Alex still confused did what Rebecca asked. Rebecca walked into the lounge room and, when Alex returned, carefully moved her onto the sofa and covered her with the blanket. Rebecca then walked over the phone and picked it up. She looked at Alex seriously.
“I’ll explain in a minute,” she said, “hello operator? I need the number for a Veronica Collins.”
Veronica paced backwards and forwards anxiously. When she heard the phone ring. She dashed over and answered it.
“Angie!” she said insistently
“No it’s Mrs. Whitfield,” Rebecca replied down the other end of the phone.
“Oh, ah, Hello.”
“Angie’s with me.”
“Oh, thank god, is she okay?”
“She’s fine Veronica she’s sleeping.”
“I’m sorry about all this I’ll come over and collect her right now.”
“I don’t think it’s a good Idea to move her right now. Listen, come over tomorrow with some clothes and collect her then.”
Veronica stood anxiously.
“I think it’s better if she wakes up in her own bed.”
“She’ll be find, she just needs some sleep, don’t worry she’s in the safes house here.”
Veronica wasn’t so sure this was the best idea but something in Rebecca's voice convinced her. They arranged that Veronica would drop off Angie’s clothes in the morning and that Rebecca would take her to school. Happy with this arrangement Rebecca hung up and returned to the sleeping girl. Alex looked at Angie curiously
“What just happened here?” he asked
Rebecca folded her arms and looked at her carefully.
“I think Angie can teleport.” Rebecca replied
“Poor girl,” Alex replied, “Any idea how?”
“Not yet I’ll take her to Nigel in the morning.”
Angie shifted softly in her sleep when she did she brushed her hair away from the back of her neck.
“What’s that?” Alex asked
Rebecca leaned over and saw the ridged mound on the back of Angie’s neck with the spines extruded out. Rebecca looked at Alex.
“I think we might have found our place to start looking.” She commented
