More Bones: Bones and Drinks
by Fighter78
He knew something was going on with him but he didn’t want to tell Buffy. He wasn’t quite sure how she’d handle it.
“Hey, Spike, the usual?” Willy asked from behind the bar.
“Just a beer. Nothin’ more.” Spike said shocking Willy a little.
“She’s really tamed you hasn’t she?” Willy asked as he handed Spike the beer.
“What do you mean?” Spike asked trying to act clueless.
“A beer? You usually ask for blood.” Willy said unsure of what to make of with what Spike had ordered.
“Felt like something different. That’s all mate.” Spike said a little defensively.
“Fine, fine. I was just curious is all.” Willy said and then left Spike alone to drink
“So, did Giles tell you anything?” Brennan asked. Boothe, Brennan, and Buffy were all sitting in the living room talking.
“Like what?” Buffy asked back.
“Well something pertaining to the bones and us coming up.” Brennan said.
“Not really, but he’s been a little preoccupied lately. It probably just slipped his mind.” Buffy said. She wouldn’t have been surprised if he had forgotten since a pile of bones was nothing compared to what she and many others were about to face.
“That’s not like him. Is everything alright?” Brennan asked.
“Yeah just busy. We’ve all been busy.” Buffy said and it was true they had been.
“Is everything alright here?” Boothe asked
“Yeah, nothing we can’t handle.” Buffy said hoping that that was true. That she knew that they could handle it and everything would turn out all right.
“All right then. Well now that you two have gotten me cleaned up, how about we go back and check out those bones. I really need to get them checked.” Brennan said as she started to get up off the couch.
“You guys go ahead. I don’t want to leave my sister alone here.” Buffy said and Brennan and Boothe both got up to leave.
“Would it be alright if we brought the bones back here? I need somewhere to examine them.” Brennan asked before she went out the door.
“Yeah, sure.” Buffy said and Brennan thanked her and left. When she left Buffy then realized what she had done. She had just let in one of the few things that Spike was terrified of. She knew it was to late to tell them no and she didn’t know what she was going to tell Spike about how she had brought one of his worst fears into the house.
“Do you still think that she’s a suspect, Boothe?” Brennan asked when they were in the car.
“I’m not scratching her off the list. Why do you ask?” Boothe said not taking his eyes off the road.
“Well I know that Rupert Giles is a very secretive man. He does stuff now that nobody really knows about. He wouldn’t tell anybody something really big unless he really trusted them.” Brennan said truthfully.
“Bones, some people are just really good actors and she also had the grip of what seemed like five or ten men. She could have beaten me up if she wanted to.” Boothe said as he pulled into the cemetery.
“Boothe, I could beat you up if I wanted too.” Brennan said and Boothe knew she was right. He had seen her go up against a gang leader and come out of it with nothing while he had fallen in front of the elevator door with a possible broken nose. He had been proud of her but then rebuked her for going up against a man like that.
Boothe parked the car and they both got out. They walked, with flashlights in front of them, towards the spot where they had first seen the bones.
“Here, they are, Bones.” Boothe said when he had found them.
“Alright, now can you help me get these back to the car, Boothe? I want to further examine them.” Brennan said and of course Boothe agreed that he would, but not before stating that he didn’t want bones in the rental car.
