Part Six

"Hey!" Buffy greeted as Giles entered the hotel room. "I was getting worried!"
She looked anything but worried. She was sitting on the couch in the living area, still in her sleepshirt, legs tucked under her and remote control in hand. A tall glass of orange juice sat on the coffee table in front of her.
"I didn't mean to worry you, I just had some business to take care of."
She looked at him with a curious expression. "Anything I should know about?"
Giles smiled. "No. Not for a few years, at least." She furrowed her brow and shook her head. It wasn't like Giles to talk in riddles...she decided to leave it alone.
"Well, anyway, look, Days of Our Lives is on!"
He rolled his eyes at the mention of the absurd soap opera. "Oh joy," he deapanned. "I know how imperative it is that you follow the lives of these fine people, but we should pack up. Our flight leaves in three hours."
"Oh Giles, you're such a grouch," she laughed, and hit him with a throw pillow on her way past him.
"What am I ever to do with her?" He sighed to himself as he watched the door to her room click shut.
When everything was packed and they had bags in hand, they locked the door to the hotel room behind them. Giles seemed distant, far away, and she wondered what that blunt old man had said to him this morning.
"Giles? Are you sure there's nothing you want to tell me?"
He regarded her for a moment, thoughtful. The he did something completely out of character and completely unexpected...he leaned down and brushed her forehead with a kiss. She stood back a step, shocked but smiling.
"What was that for?"
He smiled enigmatically, and seemed more sure of himself that she'd ever seen him. "Just for being the Slayer."
She shook her head and gave him another smile and a 'you've finally lost it' look.
"Come on Giles, let's go home." She headed down the hall.
"I'm already there," he whispered decidedly before following.
