Part Six
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Buffy1 and Angel1 were the first to arrive in the library. Buffy stopped and stared for what seemed like forever. Her jaw dropped and anything she tried to say was only mouthed in silence. She soon began to back up. Had Angel1 not been behind her, she would have backed right out of the room. She closed her eyes and shook her head as if trying to shake the horrifying sight from her memory, but when she closed her eyes, it was all she saw. She suddenly felt her stomach churn as though she would throw up. She fell to her knees and bent over. Angel1's arms went around her as she began to sob.
Angel2 ran in a second later, yelling, "What happened!" He stopped dead in his tracks when he saw Kendra, lying on the table with a cut throat and a railroad spike going straight through her.
"No." he whispered. He ran to her and tried to wake her, even though he knew that it would do no good. He stayed by her side for a few moments, then walked somberly to where Buffy1 and Angel1 were. He knelt down to where they were and said, "C'mon, we gotta go."
Buffy1 got to her feet and looked him in the face, "What happened?"
Angel2 walked from the room, Buffy1 and Angel1 followed. When they were walking side by side with him, he said, "I should have been here. I heard a noise outside the library so I went out to see what it was. She stayed here. I wasn't even gone for that long."
"Where are the others?" asked Angel1.
"They left. They went to Giles' house so they'd be safe. We stayed behind because there wasn't room in the car."
"What do we do about…" Angel1 kind of pointed back towards the library.
"We'll call the police from Giles' house." Said Buffy. She suddenly remembered something and said, "I'll be right back."
She ran back to the library. She hesitated a moment outside the door, but eventually entered. After she'd been in there awhile, both Angels went in after her. They found her in Giles' office, on the phone, holding the sword that Kendra had brought, in her hand. She had just started dialing when they entered the office.
"Hello?" she heard on the other end. Xander had answered the phone.
"Xander, hi."
"Buffy, hey are you guys on your way over."
"Yeah, um…"
Xander could hear the unstrung tone in her voice.
"You Ok?" he asked.
"No." she said with a sniff.
"What happened?"
Buffy1 took a deep breath, "Spike showed up while we were gone. He killed Kendra."
Silence filled the phone line.
"Look, we'll be over there soon, Ok?" she said, "We're gonna get him this time, Xander."
"A-alright. Bye."
Buffy1 hung up the phone then lifted the sword.
"I don't wanna forget this." She said, looking slightly shaken.
They walked out to Giles' car. Buffy got in the driver's seat, but her shaking hands told both Angels that she wasn't in driving condition. Angel2 took the keys. They were at Giles' house in a matter of minutes.
Right inside the door, they saw Xander, Willow, and Cordelia. The room where they sat was a place of gloom.
Buffy went to Willow hoping for some advice or info, anything that would help her beat Spike.
"Keep Spike away from Acathala." Said Willow, "If the portal opens it will be really hard to close."
"Where's Kayla?" Buffy's question was directed toward everyone.
"She hasn't shown up, yet." Said Cordelia.
"She needs to get here." Said Xander, "Buffy- the one upstairs, had sort of an attack. She started bleeding and it was hard to stop. We've been taking care of her since."
Upon hearing this, Angel2, bounded up the stairs to find her.
Buffy1 put a hand to her temple and sighed, "Ok, where's Giles?"
"He's upstairs with her." Xander answered.
"Someone go up and find out how many stakes he's got here, we're gonna need them."
Willow went up the stairs and came down a minute later with Angel2.
"He's got four here." She said.
"That's it?"
"There were some back at the library." Said Angel2.
"I'm not going back there." Said Buffy1.
"I'll go. We need the stakes. There's also some crossbows." He said.
"How many stakes?"
"Eight, maybe nine, I don't know. I don't know how far she got."
Buffy1 paused, "Do you know where Spike is?"
"If this is like my world, he and Dru are at the mansion on Crawford Street."
"I know where that is. I'll meet you there in an hour."
"I'll see you then." Angel2 said, on his way out.
Buffy1 sat down on the couch and took a deep breath. Angel1 sat down next to her and put his arm around her.
"I'm going with you." He said.
She turned to look at him, "No. I'm not gonna risk getting you sucked into hell."
"So, what am I supposed to do?"
"Stay here."
"And do what? Buffy, I can't just sit here. The more of you there are, the easier this fight will be. We need to get to Spike before he opens the vortex. If there are three of us, we can reach him sooner."
"Then I'll take someone else. You're not going."
Silence fell between them.
"Are you gonna call?" Angel1 asked.
"Can you do it? They tape these things and I really don't want my voice on record."
Angel got up and picked up the phone. He quickly told the police where they could find the "murder victim" and hung up, before they could trace the call, then unplugged the phone so they wouldn't call back.
Twenty minutes later, Buffy1 left the house with Angel1 at her side. Eventually she'd given up her fight and let him come with her. Angel1 had a large bag full of stakes slung over his shoulder and Buffy1 carried the sword.
