More Bones: The Colleague

“Everything ok?” Boothe asked when they came into the door.

“Yeah. Spike, why don’t you take her upstairs?” Buffy said and Spike started up the stairs. Buffy could here someone’s phone ring and before she could check her cell phone she heard Boothe say, “Hello?”

“Hey, Parker, what are you doing?” Boothe asked with a smile on his face but Buffy wasn’t smiling. The Parker she knew was mean and nasty and if this Boothe guy was friends with him she wasn’t sure she could trust him.

“Mom, let you stay up late. So are you going to be ready for the big game tomorrow?” Boothe asked still smiling but it wasn’t as big as before. There was a long pause before Boothe said anymore and Buffy figured that this Parker person was saying a lot.

“I know you want me to be there, Bub, but I’ve got some work to do. I’ll be rooting for you from where I am though.” Boothe said with a sad smile on his face and that’s when Buffy realized that he wasn’t talking to Parker who she hated but to his son who he was missing and wanting to see play something.
“Alright see you soon, love you.” Boothe said and than hung up his phone.

“So you have a son?” Buffy said as she walked into the living room. She knew he had said that he had a kid but now he actually shown her that he truly had a kid and she knew that it was a boy as well.

“Were you eavesdropping on me?” Boothe asked accusingly.

“Well yes, but I had a good reason. You see I used to know this guy named Parker and when you said that name I had to listen, kinda because he was a messed up guy and if you communicated with him I didn’t know if I could trust you but then I figured that it wasn’t him and yeah sorry.” Buffy said looking apologetic.

“Well that’s alright.” Boothe said

“Why don’t you want people to know you have a son, Boothe?” Brennan asked curiously.

“Well, it’s kind of my business, Bones. The only reason you know is because of Christmas and well you know what happened.” Boothe said glaring at her, daring her to say something even though he knew she wouldn’t.

“What happened on Christmas?” Buffy asked thinking back on her own Christmas events.

“Classified I’m afraid.” Boothe said

“Whatever. Do guys want anything to drink or eat?” Buffy said

“I can get it if you just tell me where the kitchen.” Boothe said as he started to head out of the living room.

“No! I mean you shouldn’t have to you’re a guest. I’ll get it.” Buffy said pulling on Boothe.

“Wow, you’ve got a strong grip.” Boothe said as Buffy let go of his arm and he rubbed the spot where she had grabbed.

“Um, I work out a lot.” Buffy said, it wasn’t really a lie; she did work out a lot.

“Ok, well you can get the drinks then, don’t think either of us cares what we have.” Boothe said and Buffy walked into the kitchen to get the drinks.

“What happened?” Brennan asked when Boothe came in and sat down.

“I think she might be a suspect. She has the strongest grip I’ve ever felt and she seemed pretty determined not to let me go in that kitchen.” Boothe said rubbing his arm again.

“She doesn’t seem like the type that would kind of strength.” Brennan observed.

“I know. Did your colleague say anything about meeting him?” Boothe asked.

“No, he said he would be out town for a little while but there would be someone here who I could trust with this. Before he could say who though he had to go.” Brennan said

“Maybe I could help.” Buffy said as she came in with three bottles of water.

“How much did you hear?” Boothe questioned.

“Just the part about her colleague being out of town and having to meet someone.” Buffy said

“So how could you help?” Brennan asked

“Well you can tell me his name. I know a lot people in this town.” Buffy said smiling.

“Well, he’s not really from here originally. He came from out of country.” Brennan said

“I know people from out of the country. Give me his name and maybe I’ll know him.” Buffy said

“Ok, Rupert Giles.” Brennan said warily. Buffy was a little surprised when she said her watcher’s name.

“Yeah. I know him. He is definitely out of town. Should be back in a few days.” Buffy said.

“Who should be back in a few days, luv?” Spike asked as he came into the room.

“Giles.” Buffy said

“You know him too?” Brennan asked Spike.

“Yeah I do. I’m going to go out and grab a bite to eat. I’ll be back soon.” Spike said and his usage of words made cringe a little.

“You know there’s enough food in there for you.” Buffy said hoping to get her point across.

“Yeah, but you don’t have any lettuce. I was craving some so I’ll be back.” Spike said and then he was off leaving Buffy a little confused. Suddenly she thought of something and ran out to catch up with him.

“Hey, Spike, didn’t you just eat?” She asked as he stopped to look at her.

“Yeah. Wasn’t settlin’ to well so I thought I’d go out and get somethin’ else like veggies or somethin’.” Spike said hoping she’d accept his answer but she didn’t really.

“You alright? I mean that stuff was fresh I just picked it up yesterday.” Buffy said concerned.

“Yeah I’m fine. Now if you don’t mind I’m going to go get that lettuce.” Spike said and he walked off.

“He likes lettuce and so why the confused look?” Boothe asks as she walked into the house.

“Oh, he usually never eats it. It’s unusual for him to eat it. He prefers meat.” Buffy explained still a little concerned that the blood wasn’t settling to well.

“Ok. So do you know whom Brennan is supposed to talk to? Did this Giles guy tell you?” Boothe asked.

“Well the people he actually trusts here are Willow, maybe Spike, Xander, maybe Anya and me. So it could be and one of us. You take your pick who you want to trust, Willow, Anya, and Xander are all out. So maybe you could tell me.” Buffy said knowing that Giles probably meant for them to talk to her.

“How do you guys know each other?” Brennan asked

“Um, he used to be the high school librarian and some how turned into something like my dad.” Buffy half, if even that, explained.

“Ok.” Brennan said. Accepting her answer.


A/N:I'm sure some of you are wondering why Spike hasn't noticed that Boothe looks like Angel well I'll explain real quick, it's because he hasn't really stopped to look at him and because Angel is a vampire and Boothe isn't Spike doesn't suspect anything, he will notce soon though.
