Renewing a Friendship: Both Sick
by James_Girl
“Morning, honey. How are you feeling this morning?” Joyce asked as she walked into Buffy’s room.
“Mom, I don’t think I can go to school. I feel awful and about yesterday…oh never mind.” Buffy said not lying. She should have known that she would feel this way but she didn’t think of it, she thought that some how she could brake the chain of her and Spike being sick at the same time and or getting each other sick, but it didn’t happen.
“You do feel a bit warm and what about yesterday?” Joyce said
“Well I have a confession. I wasn’t sick yesterday. Spike told me that we had a test and that he was faking it so I thought that if I faked to that I wouldn’t have to take it until I got back and then Willow and Angel came over, Willow noticed something that I hadn’t but wished I had, she noticed that Spike wasn’t acting himself and she told me that we had no test. It turned out Spike really was sick and then you came. I am so sorry, mom. I’ll try not to do anything like that again.” Buffy said sitting up slightly in her bed and feeling really bad about lying to her mom.
“I don’t know what to say other than we’ll talk when you’re feeling a bit better. Now how about you come down stairs and I’ll call Mr. Giles and let him know that you’re coming over again.” Joyce said and she walked out of Buffy’s room leaving Buffy feeling very bad about what had just occurred.
“Hey, Buffy, looks like both of us are actually sick, hey what’s wrong?” Spike said when Buffy came into the living room.
“Guess we are and nothing I just told Mom about yesterday and she got pretty mad. She didn’t really talk to me at all after that other then when she said good-bye. Sorry it just got me pretty down but hey look at the bright side I can spend another sick day with my best friend.” Buffy said trying to pick up her spirits a bit.
“Right, so what movie should we pick to fall asleep in front of today?” Spike said jokingly.
Once they had picked a movie to watch they laid down on the couch laying at each end. As much as Spike had been joking they did fall asleep, and they didn’t make it through half the movie. Both slept pretty soundly until Buffy’s cell phone rang. Its sound woke Spike up but Buffy was still asleep so he decided that if it was someone he knew and truly liked he would answer it. Unfortunately when he looked at the caller id it didn’t give any idea at who could be calling so he answered it.
“Hello?” he said staying right there in the living room knowing that when Buffy was sick she could sleep through anything.
“Spike? Is that you?” the voice on the other line, who Spike recognized to be Willow’s, asked.
“Yeah. Hey, Willow. What’s up?” Spike said.
“Where’s Buffy? Is she all right? And how come you’re answering her phone?” Willow asked
“She’s sleeping, actually we both were but I woke up when I heard her phone. We’re both sick and I guess I have to thank you for yesterday with telling Buffy.” Spike said
“Knew it. Well I guess I’ll let you go. Is it ok if I stop by just to see how you’re doing and if I bring Angel?” Willow said, the last part of what she asked, about Angel, bothered Spike a bit but he knew it would make Buffy happy and he knew from experience that she wasn’t always the happiest person when she was sick.
“Sure, that’ll be fine.” Spike said and they both said good-bye hung up. After laying her phone on the coffee table Spike laid back down and fell asleep. Neither one woke up until the sound of someone banging on the door and ringing the doorbell, Spike who woke up a bit quicker, got the door.
“Hey, Spike, how ya feeling?” Willow said as she came into the house.
“Sick, but other than that good.” Spike said smiling and then the smile fell a little bit when he saw Angel who was standing in back of Willow.
“Hey, Wills. How’s school?” Buffy who had woken up in the process of Spike letting everyone in and was now sitting up, said.
“Usual. How are you feeling?” Willow asked
“Same as Spike’s answer. Angel, what are the two of you doing here by the way?” Buffy said sounding really happy that they were there, which allowed Spike to feel a wee bit better.
“Hey, Buffy, sorry you’re not feeling all to great. I wish I could do something for you.” Angel said and as much as Spike wanted to kill Angel sometimes, just because Angel was always telling his friends what a rotten guy he was, he could tell that Angel meant it.
“Aww thanks Angel. I think you just being here might be helping a teeny bit.” Buffy said and then Angel and Willow sat down, Spike had already returned to his side of the couch. They talked awhile but it was mostly Willow and Angel who did the talking, after about half n hour Buffy called Spike into the kitchen.
“What’s up Buffy? You doing all right?” Spike asked concerned after they had sat down at the kitchen table.
“I was kinda wondering, do you think you could possibly come up with some reason that you could tell them to go because I’m feeling worse than this morning and all I want to do is sleep.” Buffy said pleadingly knowing Spike would somehow say yes.
“Of course I would. I just came up with one I think” Spike said and he went back into the living room with Buffy close at his heels.
“Hey, guys, Buffy and I are really enjoying you guys being here but my dad’s going to be getting home pretty soon and I don’t think he would appreciate you guys being here.” Spike said after he and Buffy had sat down on the couch.
“Yeah, you’re probably right. Come on Angel.” Willow said as she started to get up. Everybody said their good-byes and then Willow and Angel left to go home.
“How’s that?” Spike asked after they had left.
“Better. Thank you, Spike. I don’t know what I would do without you,” Buffy said as she hugged Spike and then laid back down on the couch to fall asleep.
