Angel's New Angel: Insane

by Ksue

Addison bounded up the steps to Sheila’s apartment bright and early the next morning. She had woken Angel up at five and taken him for a nice, long ten mile run so that she would feel energized for her meeting with Buffy. She had taken extra care in getting dressed, choosing a bright pink halter top and her newest, best looking jeans. Her hair was pulled back in a messy yet sporty bun.

“Addy, you are way too excited about this,” Sheila sighed as she opened the door to let Addison in. She shielded her eyes against the sunlight and wrapped her robe tighter around herself.

“Sheila! You promised you’d be ready to go when I got here,” Addison whined as she bounced into the apartment.

“Gimme two minutes,” Sheila groaned as she slunk off to her room. Fifteen minutes later she was dress, in jeans and a sweatshirt, and ready to go. Sheila drove them to the train station that would take them to London.

“What is she like?” Addison asked quietly as they stepped onto the train among the many commuters.

“Crazy? I don’t know Addy, I’ve never met her. You’ll see in a few hours. Speaking of time, what did you tell Angel you were going to be doing today?” Sheila asked, slipping on her glasses and pulling out the latest newspaper.

“I told him I was going to London to shop. He knows you can only get the best weapons in London,” Addison shrugged.

“So you’re planning on buying a weapon of some kind today?” Sheila asked harshly, knowing that a sword or knife would cause extra trouble on the trip home.

“Yeah. Just a staff. My long staff split last week, remember?” Addison reminded.

“Right. I forgot about that. Okay, a staff isn’t so bad, as long as it’s not a sharp implement,” Sheila said, breathing a mental sigh of relief. Addison settled down with her music while Sheila read and knitted. Thankfully, the ride was quiet.

Addison gasped as they stopped outside the mental institution that housed Buffy. It was gigantic and stone, with reinforced steel covering the windows, and no glass. Sheila paused and looked at Addison for a moment before pulling her along.

“Are you sure you want to do this?” Sheila asked as they entered the building. Addison nodded and continued to follow her watcher.

“May I help you?” A small brunette asked at the front desk.

“Yes, we’re here to see Buffy Summers?” Sheila said pleasantly.

“Oh, she’ll be so surprised! She never has visitors,” the young woman squeaked with glee. Addison raised her eyebrows at Sheila, who only smiled back. The nurse led the back to a heavily guarded cell with white padding against the walls. Buffy sat in a corner, tied up in a straight jacket, rocking back and forth.

“Buffy? You have some visitors,” the nurse said gently. Buffy immediately stopped rocking and looked up. Her eyes locked on Sheila.

“Willow?” she said hoarsely. The nurse backed out of the room and closed the door.

“No, I’m not Willow, but I am her daughter. My name is Sheila,” Sheila said, sitting on a samll bench next to where Buffy was sitting.

“Sheila? The last time I saw you...you were just a baby. Where’s your mom?” Buffy asked, becoming more and more aware of her surroundings with every passing second.

“Buffy, my mother...she’s dead. So is my dad,” Sheila admitted. Buffy froze, obviously hurting. The pain in her eyes was so intense that Addison felt like someone was cutting into her.

“How?” Buffy whispered.

“Um, a demon. I don’t know what one, but it got a lot of people. Giles, Spike, Willow, Oz, Dawn. The only person it left alive was Xander, but he died right after I graduated from high school. Car accident,” Sheila explained. Tears welled in Buffy’s green eyes. Addison was surprised at how many times her eyes had matched the way Buffy’s looked right now.

“Who’s this?” Buffy asked, finally noticing Addison. Addison stepped forward and sat down next to Sheila.

“My name is Addison. I’m the active Slayer,” she stated, trying not to sound like she imagined a pompous slayer would.

“The active slayer? What happened to all of the others?” Buffy asked. Addison could still see some savagery in Buffy’s eyes, and decided to tread carefully.

“After the mutiny, my mom revoked the spell. I don’t know how she did it, but she put the slayer line right again,” Sheila broke in.

“The mutniy. What happened to the girls involved?”

“They were either killed, or imprisoned. Once they were stripped of their powers, the imprisoned ones were sent on their way, back to normal life,” Addison explained.

“So, why are you here? I can’t imagine that you’re the only slayer since I was put away here. You’re way too young,” Buffy said, laughing at Addison’s age.

“FYI, I’m eighteen. And we’re here to talk to you about a certain vampire. Well, your life as a slayer too, but mostly in regards to this vampire,” Addison said cryptically. She found it hard to talk about Angel as a vampire and not an immortal businessman.

“Which one? Spike or...the other one?” Buffy asked. It was obviously that saying Angel’s name would hurt her more than she could bear.

“The other one,” Addison specified. Buffy hung her head.

“I can’t talk about him,” Buffy whimpered.

“Why not, Buffy?” Addison asked, distressed.

“Because if I do...I’ll die. My heart will break again if I have to relive that story and it can’t take it. I’ll die,” Buffy whispered, tears rolling down her cheeks. Addison reached out a hand and patted Buffy’s shoulder. She could feel Buffy stiffen at the human contact, but she squeezed gently, letting Buffy know she was still there.

“It’s okay, Buffy. Why don’t we just talk about something else?” Addison suggested.

“Like what?”

“Like, maybe getting you out of here?” Addison smiled. She felt Sheila tense beside her and looked over, winking.

“What?” Buffy gasped, not believing her luck.

“Well, you’re a slayer, technically. You still have your powers. And slayers weren’t meant to be cooped up inside a mental hospital. So, Sheila and I will come back tomorrow with all the paper work. Okay?” Addison asked. She saw Buffy’s face brighten.

“Please,” Buffy begged. And with that, Addison and Sheila left.

“Are you out of your mind! There’s a reason my mother put her in that place! Addison, she could be dangerous, especially when she finds out about you and Angel!” Sheila shrieked once they were back at her apartment. She hadn’t said a word to Addison until now.

“Sheila, Buffy’s not crazy! She hasn’t lost her mind! She’s grieving. Too much shit was thrown at her all at once. The love of her life left her for good and she was basically kicked out of her position by girls less experienced than her! What she needs is to feel needed again. I can do that for her. She can help to train me, spar with me, whatever! Sheila, you know that she was one of the best slayers, in terms of fighting, EVER! She can help me! We both know that I’ve been relying too much on Angel and magic to get me through a fight. I need more hand to hand, and I can’t get it from you because you don’t have the supernatural strength to kick my ass! It’s not a bad idea Sheila!” Addison countered. She watched as Sheila mentally resigned.

“Fine, but if she flips out about you and Angel...you put her back in there,” Sheila bargained.

“Fine, but she won’t find out about Angel and I until she’s back to her old self. The old self that could handle anything,” Addison promised. She jumped as her cell phone vibrated against her hip.

ANGEL

“Shit, we forgot a staff.”
