Goddess Of The Night: Into The Darkness

by BelovedSlayer

Buffy Summers walked down the empty street and cursed

at herself, accidentally hitting her shin on a nearby trash can.

“Dammit,” she muttered to herself, clutching her varsity jacket closer to her to shield herself from the cool air.

A familiar tingle of someone watching her overcame her, and

she couldn’t shake the ominous feeling away from her thoughts.

The feeling of being watched became much more stronger

as she continued to walk down the lonely street, heading towards Weatherly Park.

Dark, gray clouds were beginning to cover the cloak of darkness

that was the sky, bringing in the shivering cold even more closer than before.

The strong coolness didn’t affect her at first, but slowly, it

caused her to shiver, the hairs on the back of her neck beginning to rise in alarm.

The fear of being watched by unknown shadows was close to making her feel hysterical with fright.

Buffy passed at least four or five more houses, until she made a right towards Town Road.

She stopped dead in her tracks, her ears picking up a sound of rustling that was coming nearby.

She quietly turned to see where the soft noise was coming from. The cool breezes

began to pick up and leaves were the only sounds rustling across the pavement that was the street.

As her fear began to grow, she tried to comfort herself of thinking

about something pleasant to distract from her jumpy thoughts.

She thought of gorgeous Angel McKinsey; his spiky brown hair, his

deep, chocolate brown eyes that gazed at hers each time they would meet at school.

He had a beautiful, somewhat pale face that glowed under

direct sunlight, a handsome but mischievous smile that seemed to hold deep secrets of his own.

Buffy had a huge crush on him ever since she started her first

day of school at Sunnydale High and had that crush ever since that day they first met.

He was completely irresistible to gaze at. Never in a zillion

years would she think a guy like him would like her in return.

She always feared that he would reject her, or not like her one bit, and that was

one of her biggest worries when she started her first day of school. Not having anyone liking her as a friend.

Having a crush on Angel was completely good, but somehow it was also extremely bad for her.

How the hell could someone as different as her have a normal life? A normal boyfriend?

Her thoughts shattered, she was now aware that someone was definitely in the same street

with her, still watching her with its hidden eyes. She took

another look behind her but there was no one there but her.

She was completely alone, but the thought of that was enough to startle her out of her reverie.

The unsettling thought of being alone when someone in the

darkness, someone unknown, was watching her was almost unbearable to think.

Was it only the dark of the moon that was making her feel so scared and alone in the night?

She thought of Angel again, but this time her fear erased the images of him completely away.

Then she saw something or someone moving in the right corner of her eye, trying hard not to be seen.

Whoever it was that appeared in the flickering, eerie shadows across from her was now gone from her sight.

Buffy bent down and picked up her black high heels, clutching it in her hands tightly.

The thick heels felt extremely solid, perfect to use as a defense weapon against whoever was stalking her.

She took a couple of steps back, her eyes gazing the darkness

surrounding her for anything that might move, but then she began to relax instantly, lowering the heels.

Her best friend Willow must have been following her, trying to make her feel scared.

It was one of the things that Willow loved to do. Making prank

jokes and scaring the hell outta her friends for her evil enjoyment.

It wouldn’t be the first time Willow had done something like that to Buffy.

“Willow, get your sorry ass here right now! I know it’s you doing this. Show your face!” Buffy shouted, clutching

the heels even more tightly to defend herself from any potential attack.

Shivers of fear continued to rise in the back of her neck as she continued to scan for the shadow that lingered.

Willow didn’t answer her fearful calls. Buffy was really alone.

“Dammit Willow. I know it’s you,” Buffy continued to shout

stubbornly, refusing to think Willow wasn’t behind this.

Buffy’s eyes continued to search for the eerie shadow but

finally she thought it was only her crazy imagination

that made her think that way, shaking her head to erase her paranoia.

Shrugging, she turned towards Town Road, seeing Weatherly Park a

few blocks ahead in her eyes as her feet clicked on the cool cement below her.

Anger and annoyance filled her. Girls like her had the right to enjoy the night, not

stay at home just because she was scared of one stupid little shadow that probably wasn’t real to begin with.

That same anger made her walk a little more faster, making her feel courageous.

She clutched those same heels even more tightly in her hand.

As she reached the corner, she stood fiercely under a street lamp and

waited there for a while, daring the shadow to appear and jump on her, but so far, it hadn’t.

The same shadow she saw earlier jumped in front of her eyes again

but it was desperately trying hard for her not to glance at it. Buffy rolled her eyes, annoyed.

What she saw made her think that it was real this time, not a trick of her imagination.

She turned to run but managed to hit her chin by tripping

over a long, green water hose that stood before the neighbor’s yard.

Her face slammed against the cool cement as she felt a drip of blood trickling down from her chin.

She picked herself up, wiping the blood away from her lips as

she tried to search for the same shadow that was hiding somewhere behind her.

All at once, she wanted to get it over with. But at the same time, she was completely

annoyed as if the shadow was playing a stupid, childish game that irritated her to the bone.

She was getting extremely impatient, and felt a quick surge of determination rising within her.

Buffy tossed her black heeled shoes across the neighbor’s yard as she ran, arms pumping at her sides.

She ran quickly as if she was some kind of Amazon warrior charging for battle.

She could feel the soft arousal in her molecules demanding her to be released from their captivity.

She wanted to give in to her secret power in order to escape, but she knew that it may cost her to pay a price.

Instinctively she knew that whatever was happening now was

somehow connected to her power but she didn’t have a clue as to why.

One of her biggest fears and worries besides not having anyone

like her is the discovery of her biggest secret. The ability to become invisible at any time.

If even one person discovered her biggest secret, she knew that she would be

hunted down and be followed, possibly have her secret be revealed to the entire country.

Whoever was following her, she knew that he or she was getting

much more closer, and she knew she had to escape right now before she got caught.

Her molecules became even more excited than before, desperately wanting to be free of gravity for once.

She imagined herself being invisible, running through her purple dress, seeing the look

of her unknown stalker stopping to pick up the purple dress with a bewildered look.

Stay, she told herself fiercely. She had to concentrate in order to keep those molecules together.

Then another sound that was unfamiliar to her ears picked up, joining those of the shadow that was stalking her.

Beads of cold sweat pinched on her forehead nervously

as she thought the possibility of another person joining the stalker that was behind her.

A horrible thought crossed her mind. Could it become even more worse than before?

What the hell was her mom gonna do when she found out her only daughter was different from everyone else?

A complete freak that had the ability no one else was born with? What would her mother do when she found out?

All Buffy yearned for was to be normal like everyone else.

Not have this power that she had to hide, even from her own mother.

She heard someone from the shadows speaking, then she realized it was only her.

What the hell was she saying?

Some words that she had spoken when she was a little girl?

One thing for sure was that she didn’t recognize any of the words she was speaking.

It was a totally different language that she was very unfamiliar with.

Her lips formed the weird words once again. “O Mater Luna, Regina nocis, adiuvo me nunc.”

Besides speaking English, Buffy knew just a little bit of Spanish since she did live in California.

Those words were none of those languages.

What language were those words coming from?

From the corner of her eyes, she saw something reaching out for her.

The words formed on her lips once more, this time strong. “O Mater Luna, Regina nocis, adiuvo me nunc.”

The power of the words filled her just then as she spoke the words.

Almost right away, the dark chasers were gone but she kept on running a few blocks

towards Weatherly Park, scared to trust what was actually true. She was now alone.

At the very next block, she quickly stopped running and turned straight back.

Wisps of breath escaped from her lungs. This street was as empty as the other one.

And she was alone..
