The Box: Strange stuff and sleep
by James_Girl
“Hey, Spike, what’s up? Hey are you ok? You look a little down.” Spike’s friend Clem asked when he came and sat down next to Spike in the bar.
“Hey, Clem. I don’t know what’s wrong. One minute I’m angry with Angel the next I’m as sad as can be. Also I was sick. Vampires don’t get sick other than those rare times like Drusilla.” Spike said taking a sip of his drink. Spike didn’t like to think about Drusilla because it always made him a little bit angry thinking about how he had given into her every little delusional will.
“Sad? I’ve never really known you to be sad. What about?” Clem inquired after taking a sip of the drink he had ordered.
“That’s the thing. I don’t know why I was so sad.” Spike said finishing the rest of his beer.
“Did the slayer do something?” Clem asked knowing about Spike’s love for Buffy.
“No she didn’t. Actually she stood up for me at Giles apartment. Angel and I were having an argument about who should walk her home and she all of a sudden yelled at him, which threw me a little off since I know the two of them like each other, to let me take her home and then she got started crying and when she started to cry I felt sad. It was awfully weird.” Spike said.
“That is a little weird. Maybe it was something you ate.” Clem said coming up with suggestions to Spike’s problem.
“Naw. Didn’t eat anything today. Haven’t been too hungry today. Just getting over being sick and all.” Spike said
“Don’t know what to tell you then, buddy. Hey you should go back home and rest if you’re sick.” Clem said and Spike got up from his seat.
“Alright. See you later, Clem.” Spike said and he left.
Buffy and Angel were walking towards Buffy’s house when Buffy suddenly felt something strange. When she looked up at Angel it didn’t look like he had noticed it so she kept it to herself. She wouldn’t have said anything if she suddenly felt herself start to fall. She would’ve fallen completely had it not been for Angel.
“Buffy, are you alright?” Angel asked holding her up.
“I’m not sure. I feel strange almost like I’m not awake but I am. I’m just so tired that’s all.” Buffy said as Angel and she walked on. Buffy was walking with the help of Angel knowing that she would probably fall flat on her face if he wasn’t holding her.
“We can just say goodnight at the door. My mom doesn’t know really who you are and probably doesn’t want me hanging out with a strange guy. Not that you’re strange just my mom might think you are.” Buffy said as she and Angel walked up her driveway.
“Are you sure?” Angel asked concerned like he always was for her when ever something was wrong.
“I’ll be fine. I’ll just sleep on the couch tonight and tell mom that I was too tired to go up stairs and that is the truth. I’ll see you tomorrow, Angel.” Buffy said and then they kissed and then said goodbye.
“Buffy, is that you?” Buffy’s mom called from upstairs when Buffy closed the front door.
“Yeah, mom. It’s me. I’m going to sleep down here tonight. I’m pretty tired so it might be easier for me to just sleep down stairs.” Buffy called up.
“Alright. Good night, honey.” Buffy’s mom called down and Buffy went to go lay down on the couch and she fell asleep right away.
“Buffy, wake up. Time for school.” Buffy’s mom said as she woke Buffy up.
“I’m awake. What time is it?” Buffy said
“About 7:30. If you don’t get up now you won’t be able to have breakfast now get up.” Buffy’s mom said as Buffy got up and walked into the kitchen.
“Good morning. How was your night last night? Is Spike feeling better?” Buffy’s mom asked as Buffy got something to eat and drink.
“The night was good and Spike’s feeling better.” Buffy said. She ate her breakfast and then headed up stairs to get ready for school.
“I’m going home tonight! I can’t stand one more bloody minute with you!” Spike yelled at Giles who was trying to get out so he could get to the school library. He and Giles had been arguing ever since they had both woken up.
“Fine!” Giles yelled back.
Ring. Ring. The phone started to ring.
“Hello.” Giles said sounding a little exasperated when he answered the phone.
“Hello, Giles. It’s me Angel. Have you been able to do anymore work on that box?” Angel said on the other line.
“Oh hello, Angel. I’m afraid I’ve been a bit tied up this morning. Why didn’t you tell me that Spike was just a pain.” Giles said not caring if Spike heard him or not. He could feel Spike glaring at him though.
“Sorry about that. I think he’s been a pain since the day that Drusilla sired him. I don’t know if he was a pain before or if was just after he became a vampire.” Angel said. Ever since Drusilla had brought Spike to meet him and Darla Spike had been like a thorn in Angel’s side but he had to put up with him so that Drusilla wouldn’t bother him any more.
“Alright. Where are you?” Giles asked trying to ignore Spike who was just trying egg him on into arguing some more.
“At a pay phone. It’s near the Bronze.” Angel said. Giles was about to hang up until Angel said, “Giles did Buffy tell you about what happened last night?”
“No she didn’t I haven’t been to the school yet and she hasn’t called. What happened?”
“When I was walking her home last night she said she felt strange and then fell suddenly. She said something about feeling like she was asleep yet awake.” Angel said
“She could just have been tired but I’ll check on her today. I really have to go, Angel. If I don’t Spike will either drive me insane or the school will decide to fire me.” Giles said and he hung up.
