Buffy had asked him to stop by her house to pick up a box of stuff to take over to Giles who was working his butt off to try to find a way to help Buffy, not that she needed help but Giles was always trying to figure out a way to try and figure out how to make her fighting a bit easier. So as he walked up Buffy’s driveway Spike tried to think of what to say but all he could come up with was to knock.

“Hello, may I help you?” a woman, who Spike recognized as Buffy’s mother, said when she answered the door.

“Um, yes is Buffy home?” Spike said trying to think of how to explain who he was to her knowing full well that Buffy’s mom didn’t know about her being the slayer.

“I’m afraid she’s upstairs sleeping she wasn’t feeling well. Who are you though, I don’t think you told me your name.” She said

“My name’s Spike. I go to school with Buffy. We were working on a project together and she asked me to stop by tonight to pick something up for it.” Spike said amazed that what he had just said had been so easy.

“Hi, Spike.” Buffy said from the top of the stairs.

“Buffy what are you doing up? You’re sick, you should be sleeping.” Buffy’s mom said looking up the stairs. Even with matted hair and looking sick, Spike thought she was beautiful

“I heard voices and wanted to see what was going on. I wasn’t sleeping anyway.” Buffy said

“Alright. Well I guess that since you are down you mine as well go lie down on the couch. If you want and if Buffy doesn’t mind sharing the couch you can go sit down.” Buffy’s mom said and Spike went and sat with Buffy who didn’t seem to care if he sat with her.

“Buffy, are you alright? Do you want me to contact Giles at all?” Spike asked once Buffy’s mom was out of earshot.

“Spike, as hard as it might be to believe, I just have the flu, nothing more. I will be fine.” Buffy said taking Spike’s hand to reassure him.

“Fine. So what’s in the box that you can’t take it over to Giles?” Spike asked, suddenly remembering the real reason he had come over.

“I’m not sure, all I know though is that when I picked it up and brought it back here it drained all my power and strength that was four days ago though I don’t think me being sick has anything to do with the box.” Buffy said

“Spike, would you like anything to drink?” Buffy’s mom asked as she walked into the living room and Buffy suddenly let go of Spike’s hand.

“No thanks. I have to go actually. I’ll see you at school and feel better.” Spike said as he walked out the door.

“Spike seems like a nice boy. I think he likes you, Buffy.” Buffy’s mom told her a few minutes after Spike left. Buffy already knew that Spike liked her though.

“Thanks, mom. You know what I think I’m going to close my eyes now and go to sleep.” Buffy said and she closed her eyes and fell asleep.

“I’m coming already just stop banging on the bloody door.” Spike said as he walked to the entrance of his crypt.

“Where the heck were you? I’ve been knocking for the past ten minutes.” Xander said when Spike answered the door.

“Sleeping. Now what is so important that you had to wake me?” Spike asked angrily.

“Patrolling. Buffy’s still sick so she asked me to have you help me now come on.” Xander said and Spike went to get some descent fighting clothes on.

“So how’s Buffy doing? She looked terrible when I went to pick up that thing last night.” Spike asked as the two walked along.

“She’ll be fine. I feel kind of bad though because I had what she has and then I gave it to Willow and then Willow gave it to Buffy. So what was that thing that you had to pick up?” Xander asked

“I’m not sure exactly. I never opened it. The moment I got home I barely made it to my bed before falling asleep.” Spike said and then the two were silent for a while, which Spike preferred since he was feeling something strange and wasn’t really in the mood for talking.

“Spike, you ok you’re kinda sweating like a pig and I’ve never really known you to sweat since you’re body temperature doesn’t really rise.” Xander said after awhile and before Spike was able to answer he ran off.

“I always knew that guy was strange.” Xander said to himself and then he felt a tap on his shoulder.

“Spike, why….” Xander started to say and then he saw it wasn’t Spike it was a vampire or a vampire that was evil and able to hurt him.

“Spike, where are you?” Xander called out after he had staked the vampire, which had taken awhile since he wasn’t usually a fighter.

“Oh my gosh, Spike!” Xander shouted when he found Spike lying on the ground unconscious or sleeping but Xander wasn’t sure.

“What happened?” Giles asked after helping Xander place Spike on the couch. Xander had dragged Spike to his car and then driven to Giles’ place.

“No clue. One second we’re searching for vampires and the next he runs off and I find him knocked out or something. He was sweating a lot though that was a little weird.” Xander said

“Well, he’s sleeping. He can stay here why don’t you go home and get some rest.” Giles said

“Fine.” Xander said and he left.
