THE GATEWAY INTO HELL: Part One
by Peakles
“Damn that Slayer!!” Spike shouted. “She dusted over twenty of our guys last week! I would give anything to be rid of her.”
“Spike, honey...” Dru moaned.
“What is it, luv?” he answered.
“I see a way to send the Slayer far away...in the pretty sands.”
*Pretty sands?* he thought, *Lately everything she’s said is more complicated than one of those word puzzles.* “Where are the pretty sands luv?”
“There...” she pointed to the front page of the local paper.
“Earthquake in Painted Desert. An unprecedented earthquake collapsed several natural towers in New Mexico. Authorities report that no one was injured in the quake, since the quake was in one isolated area and no aftershocks were detected. The National Guard was called to isolate the area with barricades. The CIA issued a report that isolation was necessary because a nuclear storage facility was in the area. Experts report...”
“Our solution to the Slayer is in New Mexico?!?” Spike asked.
“The pretty desert.” Dru replied.
“Boys, get the cars ready. We’re goin’ on a road trip!” he shouted.

Buffy Summers strolled into the library, her eyes bright and clear. “Last night was the first descent night’s sleep I’ve had in months.” she said cheerily. “I guess those twenty-some stakings last week quieted things down for a while.”
“I wish I could share your optimism, but I-I don’t believe ‘quiet’ is what things seem to be. Ah did you, by any chance, read the paper recently?” Giles asked, squashing any hope of a peaceful week for the Slayer.
“No, Giles, I couldn’t seem to find the time between school, slaying, family, and being a teenager, to read the paper lately.” Buffy snapped. The happy was going bye-bye fast.
“There was an unnatural earthquake in the Painted Desert, a few day ago. There’s no prophecy about this. There is no mention of this in any of my texts. I feel we need to investigate.” continued Giles.
“Investigate what?” Willow asked as she walked towards the computer.
“Giles, wants to take a trip to New Mexico.” Buffy replied.
“Isn’t that where that earthquake was?” Xander commented as he walked in behind Willow.
Buffy and Giles gave him a surprised look. “What?” he asked. “I can’t be informed?”
“Willow, I need you to search whatever you can about that quake, I’ll get our trip cleared with the administration.” Giles said after recovering from shock.
“All right!” Xander exclaimed. “Roadtrip!”
