The Devil You Know: Trust Issues
by littlewiccan
“So what’s next on the tour,” Buffy asked as she followed Angel out of Gunn’s office, down a hallway, and through a pair of swing doors, “Wow.”
“This is the lab,” Angel said.
“Hi Angel,” Fred said, in a cheery voice. She was wearing a lab coat and she had a clipboard and pencil in her hand, “What’s up?”
“This is Buffy, Buffy this is Fred she runs the lab.”
“You don’t look evil,” Buffy said.
“Gee, thanks,” Fred said.
“Sorry, it’s just….”
“I work in an Evil law firm; yeah well most of the people that work here aren’t evil. Angel pretty much killed or fired all the bad guys,” Fred said, “Well, I have to go back to work but it was nice meeting you.”
“Actually Fred,” Angel said.
“Yeah.”
“We might need your help later. I planned a meeting, I don’t know if Harmony gave you the memo.”
“Oh, yeah she did,” Fred replied and then Angel and Buffy left.
“Harmony? As in Harmony the vampire Harmony, who use to be Cordelia’s best friend Harmony?” Buffy asked. Angel nodded, “What is she doing here and why is she handling your memos?”
“Okay, when you say it like that it sounds dirty,” Angel said, “She’s my secretary.”
“You hired Harmony?”
“Wesley did.”
“Is she evil?”
“Technically but she doesn’t drink human blood so….”
“I can’t kill her.”
“Sorry no.”
“Whatever,” Buffy said as they walked back into the lobby where Angel’s office was located.
“Hey, Lorne,” Angel said.
A green demon in a suit turned around and greeted him, “Angel cakes, how are you and who’s is this lovely lady?” he said looking at Buffy.
“This is Buffy.”
“Nice to meet you, I’m Lorene,” he replied, extending his hand.
Buffy took it, “Nice to meet you too.”
“Lorne’s the head of our Entertainment department,” Angel said as Lorne’s cell phone began to ring.
He opened it and looked at who it was, “And speaking of entertainment I have to take this call, its Ashley she’s a little worried about Mary Kate,” he told them as he picked up the phone, “Ashley, sweetheart, how are you?”
“The Olsen twins are evil?”
“No, just clients.”
“Buffy?!” a familiar voice exclaimed. It was Harmony, “Oh my god, I can’t believe it. It’s been so long.”
“Yeah, the last time I saw you, you tried to kill my sister.”
“Yeah, good times,” Harmony said. Buffy raised her eyebrows at the remark, “Which I am totally sorry for. Please don’t stake me.”
Buffy was about to walk away when Harmony said something, “Oh, Angel Wesley’s in your office. He said it was important.”
Angel entered his office and Buffy followed. She couldn’t help but smile in relief when she saw Willow sitting on the couch, talking to Wesley. Faith was there as well, leaning against the wall.
“Hey B,” Faith said.
Willow turned around, “Buffy,” she said, walking over to her friend and hugging her tightly.
“I was so worried you were dead,” Buffy said.
“Me too but about you. Is anyone else with you?”
Buffy shook her head, sadly, “I don’t know about anyone else. You?”
“Kennedy and Wood are dead.”
“I’m sorry Willow,” Buffy said, hugging her friend again.
“Its okay, I figure I didn’t go evil so that’s good,” the red replied with a small laugh. She changed the subject, “So did see Wes? He looks good right?”
“Hey,” Buffy said, hugging her ex-watcher, “You do look good.”
“It’s good to see you too Buffy,” Wesley replied.
“Hey, so what’s this meeting about?” Gunn asked, entering the room with Fred and Lorene.
“Yeah, I have an Olsen twin to deal with,” Lorene said.
They were shortly followed by Spike, “Red?”
“Hey Spike,” Willow said, walking over and giving the vampire a hug.
“Sure Spike gets a hug,” Angel said, “But me….”
“Oh come here you old broody pants,” Willow said, hugging Angel as everyone else sat down.
“So what’s this all about anyway?” Spike asked.
“We have to find out who destroyed the slayer training school,” Angel said.
“We?” Buffy asked.
“Yeah, don’t you want help?” Angel asked her.
“I wish you would have asked me first,” Buffy said.
“You came here for my help.”
“I never asked for your help, just a place to stay for awhile.”
“Looks like there’s trouble in paradise,” Faith said. Buffy and Angel but turned and gave her a look.
“Angel, its not that I don’t appreciate it I just think that maybe ti would be better if we handled this on our own,” Buffy said.
“This is because of me being head of Wolfram and Hart isn’t it.”
“Kinda.”
“I’m not evil Buffy.”
“No, I know but I don’t know we can trust this place and I don’t want put people I’m responsible for in danger.”
“You don’t have to trust this place you’re suppose to trust me,” Angel whispered.
“I don’t know if I can,” Buffy said and with that she left the office.
“Is the meeting over?” Spike asked, breaking the silence. Angel glared at him.
