"We can't be friends. We never were friends," she said. "What I want from you I can never have."

These words ripped through his heart like a burning stake.

"There has to be a way that we can see each other," he said in desperation.

"There is." She paused. "Tell me that you don't love me."

He was speechless. All he could do was look at her. Then she walked out of the room. He just stood there, staring after her.
