I'll Never Forget (Redone): Human

by Sinister

As Angel felt his heart beat he fell to the floor. He was alive…again. When he finally gained his breathe and calmed down, he looked at Whistler and said, “How did you do that?”

Whistler just rolled his eyes and said, “Magic,” with a wink of his eye. “Basically…this is it. This is your moment, your redemption. The power’s see all, and know all of the good you’ve done and this is your reward. This is your time to shine.”

Angel couldn’t help but let out a smile. He was so happy. He was still a little unsure about this whole situation but he could feel his heart beat. He knew this was real. He was human.

Now the only thing he could think about was Buffy. He had his doubts about this whole ‘being human’ situation, especially in light of recent events, but this was Whistler. They weren’t exactly friends but he trusted him. He also knew for a fact that Whistler didn’t have the kind of power it would take to turn Angel human…and yet…he did it anyway.

Whistler could see the happiness in Angel’s eyes. “So now they can’t call you ‘The Vampire with a Soul,’ or ‘The Angel of Darkness’ anymore. If I had to guess though…I think they’ll still call you a champion.”

Angel just looked at him and smiled as he stood to his feet. He couldn’t even put into words how grateful he was.

Whistler knew Angel was grateful. He didn’t have to say it. “Don’t let me down kid…or the Power’s will have my ass.”

They looked at each other and smiled and then before Angel could even say thank you or goodbye, Whistler was gone.

When Buffy got back to school she just laid on her bed for a while just thinking and crying. She almost wished she hadn’t remembered what happened that day, it would have been easier. She kept picturing in her mind what it was like when they were together, lying with him in bed, listening to his heart beat, eating ice cream with him. It was so hard to have only had all that for one day. She loved him so much and to know what they could have had was eating her up inside. It was almost even worse then when she had to kill him. With that situation she at least knew they could never have a real future together anyway. But now…they had the chance…and it was gone.

Buffy had just stopped crying when Willow walked in. “Buffy your back! Xander told me you went to LA. What happened? Is everything ok?” Willow was worried about her friend. She could see the pain in her eyes.

Buffy looked at her reassuringly, “Everything is fine Will don’t worry. I just needed to see Angel and find out if something was real or not.”

“Your dream?” Willow asked.

“Yea,” Buffy said with pain in her voice.

The two girls sat there for a while. Buffy told Willow everything that had happened. She told her a full detailed version of her dream and everything that had happened in LA.

Willow just looked at her feeling so horrible. “Buffy I’m so sorry.”

“It’s ok…I guess that’s just the way it had to be…I mean Angel was right to do what he did…he had no choice,” Buffy said trying to convince herself it was true.

Willow, looking very angry, put her two cents in, “Like hell he didn’t. He could have talked to you first instead of just going and doing something that would hurt you and scar you for the rest of your life. There could have been other ways. He had no right!” Willow looked very hurt and angry. She had just suffered from a very hard brake up with Oz and a lot of what she said was relating to what had happened to her. She started getting tears in her eyes. “It’s just not fair,” she added as a tear ran down her check.

Buffy knew she was talking about Oz. She got up off her bed and went over to Willow’s bed and gave her a big hug. “It’s gonna be ok Will, everything is gonna be ok.” Buffy was getting teary herself but knew she had to be strong for her friend. She just sat there and let Willow cry on her shoulder.

After a while Willow calmed down and lifted her head. She wiped her eyes and looked at Buffy, “I’m sorry Buffy. I didn’t mean to get all upset it’s just…” Willow trailed off.

“I know Will, its ok,” Buffy said with a reassuringly smile.

Willow smiled back but then looked at Buffy with concern, “Buffy you look exhausted.”

“Yea…I didn’t get much sleep when I was in LA, I think I might take a nap for a while,” Buffy replied with a yawn. She went over to her bed and laid down.

Willow looked at her and smiled, “I’m gonna go study…or something. I don’t want to bother you, sweet dreams Buffy.” Willow said with a smile as she walked out the door and left Buffy there to sleep.

As soon as Whistler was gone Angel realized that he shouldn’t get too excited until he tested this whole thing out.

The first thing he did was run to the bathroom. Even though he was a vampire who could never really see his own reflection, all bathrooms came with mirrors so he just left it there. At first he was a little scared to look. Sure his heart was beating and he knew he was alive but there was still this worry he felt…like it might just all have been a dream.

He walked into the bathroom slowly and turned on the light. When he looked in the mirror he couldn’t believe what he saw. He smiled at the sight of his own reflection. This was really happening. He was human again.

With a smile still on his face he ran to the elevator and road it to the second floor where he hoped Cordelia and Doyle would be. When he got to the second floor he hesitated before getting off the elevator. ‘Maybe I should make sure I still have my vampire strength before telling everyone what’s happened,’ he thought to himself.

He walked out of the elevator and to his relief Cordy and Doyle weren’t in yet. He walked to the fridge and looked at all the snacks that Cordy and Doyle kept in there. He smiled and pulled out pretty much all of it. He tasted a little bit of everything and moaned in satisfaction at the wonderful taste.

After stuffing his face he walked to the door and slowly opened the door. He had just been human about a week ago but it was still a new and wonderful experience to do the things he normally wouldn’t be able to do…like go into the light.

He walked outside and just stood there for a moment taking in the rays of the sun in aw of his not bursting into flames reaction. With a giant smile on his face he decided to take a walk. He walked to an alley he knew that was known for trouble in both the day and the night. He was hoping to find someone to pick a fight with so that he could test his strength.

He was in luck. He hadn’t been walking down the alley more then five minutes when he heard a woman screaming. He ran towards the scream and found that a group of three men were trying to mug a young woman. “Why don’t you pick on someone your own size,” he said to the men with a confident smile on his face.

The leader of the three men looked at one of them and said, “Don’t let her go. Mack and I will deal with this punk.”

“No look,” Angel said as he put his hands in front of him as if he were going to push them back, “I don’t want any trouble.” Just then he put his hands down and almost started to laugh, “Who am I kidding…of course I want trouble.” Then his face turned completely serious, “Let the girl go.”

“Who do you think you are hero?” the leader said, “Why don’t you run along and mind your own business before my friend and I make sure you only leave in a body bag.”

Angel laughed a little and then he saw the two men each pull out a knife. He wasn’t showing it but he was starting to get a little nervous. ‘Maybe I should have just…tried to lift something heavy first and then almost get myself killed,’ he thought to himself. If what Whistler told him was wrong this little fight could be if for him.

“I’ll say it one more time and then I’m really going to get angry,” Angel said as he could hear the girl yelling for help, “Let the girl go.”

The two boys looked at each other and smile as they advanced towards Angel ready to fight. “Guess we’re doing this the hard way,” Angel said as he prepared to fight.

“So I wonder how long it will take sir mopes-a-lot to wake up today,” Cordelia said as she and Doyle walked into the office.

“He has been a little extra broody lately hasn’t he?” Doyle agreed.

“Yea well he had better get his act together soon,” Cordy said, “he’s starting to scare our clients…more then usual.”

Doyle laughed a little as he put on a pot of coffee. When he went to the fridge, however, it looked like a hurricane hit it. “What the hell?” he said with a confused look on his face.

“What?” Cordelia asked with curiosity in her voice as she started to walk to where Doyle was looking. When she was he saw she was looking just as confused. “What the hell?” she repeated.

“That’s what I said,” Doyle added. “This doesn’t make any sense. Someone came in…eat our food…and then left?” he asked.

“We should see if anything else is missing,” Cordy said as she started to get worried. They had very important things such as demon books and artifacts in that office and if anything was stolen there could be some big problems.

The two friends looked around the whole office but found nothing missing. “Ok this is weird,” Cordelia said as they went back to the fridge to start cleaning up the mess.

“Well…maybe Angel ate it,” Doyle suggested.

“Earth to Doyle,” Cordy said sarcastically, “Vampires don’t eat food.”

“Well it’s the only logical thing I can think of…even though it’s not really logical either,” Doyle said looking confused again.

Just as Cordelia was about to speak, Angel walked in the front door with a big smile on his face. “Thank goodness your here,” Cordy said as she and Doyle got up to great Angel, “Someone ate our food. I know it sounds weird and we can’t figure it out but nothing else was taken.”

“Cordy,” Doyle said trying to get her attention.

“I mean it’s just the strangest thing,” Cordelia continued ignoring Doyle.

“Cordelia,” Doyle tried again.

“Who would just come in and eat our food and leave a big mess and then just leave?” Cordelia continued…again…ignoring Doyle.

“Cordelia!” Doyle said loudly.

“What!?” she asked with frustration in her voice.

“Angel just walked in the front door,” Doyle responded with a look of shock on his face.

“So…” Cordy said not really understanding what he was trying to say.

“So…it’s braid day light,” Doyle pointed out.

“Oh,” Cordy responded, “Oh! Angel! You were outside…in the day time…and you didn’t burst into flames!”

“I know,” Angel said with a smile, “Isn’t it great?”

In the next hour or so Angel explained to them everything that had happened. He told them about the lost day, about Whistler and about the three punks whose asses he just kicked without breaking a sweat. His two friends were in aw. They didn’t know what to say and Angel just smiled.

“Wow,” Doyle said as he tried to shake the shock off of his face.

“So what are you going to do now?” Cordy asked.

“I don’t know,” Angel responded, “I guess the same thing we have been doing…only now it’ll be a little easier to do.”

“No,” Cordelia said with an annoyed ton, “What are you going to do…about Buffy?”

Angel’s smile faded. She had been all he could think about since he was turned back into a human but he still didn’t know what he was going to do. He was afraid of something happening like the last time. He couldn’t bear to hurt her again. “I’m not sure,” were the only words he could think to say.
