Once More, with Spirit!: Jingle Bells

Chapter 4: Jingle Bells

Back at Buffy’s house, Joyce was taking the cookies and other baked treats out of the oven. After putting the cookies on the cooling rack, she arranged the cupcakes carefully on a tray, and walked into the living room… to find that no one was there.

Having just exited the Magic Box with some spell ingredients, Buffy held a stake at ready as the others followed, their own, larger weapons concealed. Only Willow had no weapons, ready to defend herself with magic.

“So,” Giles concluded, “We catch him at the Bronze, and Buffy’s job is to corner Sweet while Xander, Oz, and I will work on taking down his minions, and Willow and Jenny will back up Buffy and perform the spell to bind him in his dimension. Let’s hurry now, before we suddenly find ourselves singing and dancing again.”

Buffy, eager to get this over with and determined to have a decent Christmas, skipped ahead, and suddenly found herself bursting into song, as a faint ringing of sleigh bells provided a background beat.


“Dashing to the show,
Ready for the slay,
O’er the graves we go…

Buffy and co., all moving in synch, pass through another cemetery as Buffy continues singing.

“…Dancing all the way!”

Giles does a complicated little two-step and twirl.
As they near the Bronze, everybody begins alternating lines.

Xander sings out, “My spine is tingling!”
Willow continues, “Let’s just see what this night brings!”
Oz adds, “What horrid demon things…’
Buffy immediately finishes, “Will we be re-meeting?”

Everyone joins in for the chorus, as they enter the Bronze.

“Oh, jingle bells and singing hell,
Dancing all the way!
Oh, what fun it is to fight…”

Buffy heads to the stage, while Xander, Oz, and Giles begin fighting Sweet’s other minions. Jenny and Willow follow Buffy at a distance, now tossing sprinkles of the spell ingredients in time with the song. They continue singing, repeating the previous line.


“Oh what fun it is to fight,
Or dance and sing and slay!

Their song ends, and Sweet walks up to Buffy, smiling encouragingly. “Now, that’s the spirit!”

A/N: I'm hoping to finish this fic by tomorrow, or the day after, and then I'll get back to my other fic.
