Sunny Days are Forever: Part 4

Through the fire, through the limit Through the wall… For a chance to be with you I'd gladly risk it all….

The new portal to hell, located beneath the Sunnydale Cemetery had opened as soon as the Scooby Gang entered the grounds.

"Slayer…I've been waiting for you.."

The sound of Lothos' booming voice caught Buffy off-guard. The vampire king had been Buffy's first major enemy…one she thought she had disposed of after a battle with his henchmen in Los Angeles soon after she had learned of her fate as the Slayer.

But she realized that with Armaggedon only a few moments away, the forces of hell are pulling out all the big guns to make certain of their victory.

"Hello, Lothos…thought you'd show…" Buffy replied coolly. The slayerettes positioned themselves behind her.

"Do you really think that you and your pathetic group could stop the inevitable..?" Lothos sneered, venomous hatred dripping from his lips. The vampire king stood at the very center of the graveyard, just a few feet away from the slayer. " Tonight our master walks the earth…and none of you can do anything about it!" he added, his voice echoing through the evening mist. At a snap of his fingers, a horde of vampires encircled the small group.

"Don't be too sure…" Duncan appeared behind Lothos, walking towards him, his sword unsheathed and glinting in the moonlight.

"McLeod…" Lothos recognized the immortal immediately.

"Yeah, we've beaten the odds before you know…" Angel said softly, showing up on the other side of graveyard, his black duster making him look like a dark, avenging angel.

"My, my, even Angelus sides with the slayer…" Lothos was impressed. That Angelus, the scourge of Europe, the most brutal of the undead would defend the girl surprised him.

"Enough talk now…let's just fight okay?" Buffy said as she loaded an arrow into her crossbow and took aim at the vampire king.

"Wrong! Now, The Evil One rises!!!" Lothos screamed with glee as the earth beneath them trembled.

The vampires began to attack the slayerettes but the Scooby Gang were able to hold off well on their own.

Lothos started towards Buffy but was blocked by Duncan. The Highlander raised his sword to strike the vamp king but was shoved aside by an invisible energy emitting from the vamp's outstretched arms. Angel tackled Lothos from behind, forcing the vamp king to the ground.

"Now Buffy ! "The slayer's arrow found its mark.

"You may have taken me, but you will never defeat him!" the vamp king croaked a final chuckle as he pointed above them.

"He will destroy you all!" Lothos screamed, before exploding to dust.

Buffy and the Scooby gang looked upwards and were speechless. A giant dragonlike monster had risen from the ground and was headed for the slayer.

Buffy shot at the creature with her arrows, but none could penetrate its skin. Duncan threw her his sword but this too had no effect. Angel blocked the monster's path . Morphing to his vampire persona, Angel signalled for Buffy and the others to stay out of the way.

Strong as he was, Angel was no match for the giant creature. The monster swatted the vampire aside, its claws slashing across Angel's chest. He slumped to the ground, lifeless.

"No!!!!" Buffy screamed, running over to Angel. She knelt down and cradled him in her arms "Don't you dare die on me now…Angel…" she whispered, tears streaming down her face.

The creature was getting ready to attack again. Duncan scream a warning to the slayer.

"Buffy, the creature's pure evil. Only love can defeat it. Use your love for Angel !"

Duncan turned to the slayerettes. "Focus your thoughts on them…" he shouted. "Let all the love you have in your heart….flow to Buffy and Angel!!! Now!!!"

Buffy ticked a glance at the monster then with a determined look at her beloved, closed her eyes and let the love in her heart glow from within.

The slayerettes looked at each other , nodded and formed a semi-circle, hands linked to each other. Willow reached out to Duncan, who gave her his hand. They focused all their energies on the two lovers.

The slayer felt the power sing within her soul. She opened her eyes for a brief moment and looked at Angel who had regained consciousness. He looked at his beloved and nodded in understanding. The slayer and the vampire got to their feet and held each others hand. The power continued to grow within them until manifested itself in the form of a sword.

Buffy and Angel took hold of the sword and threw it straight at the creatures; heart. The monster shrieked in horrific pain and was gone in a flash of light.

It was over. They had won.
