Civil Disobedience: My Own Battles

by Wonkabar

In was May 1863, and Clara LeFont watched the two opposing regements march towards each other. It was right outside of Jackson, Mississippi, and the war had dragged on for almost three years now. Clara was called six months ago, the previous Slayer being killed by a cannonball during a fight with a vampire. She shook her head at the stupidity of it all. The Union line under the command of General Sherman fired first. The musket shot cut through the men on the Confederate side, killing men as young as 15. The Confederate line, under the command of General Johnston, returns fire. For the next ten minutes, she watches the massacre. She turns on her heal and walks down the hill. She had seen enough.

Clara mounts her waiting horse, and rides off...away from the madness. Besides, she has her own battles to fight. She had received a letter three days ago informing her that her watcher was killed while visiting relatives in London. He was killed by a vampire couple named Angelus and Darla. She should have gone with him, but her mother was sick. She rides until she reaches a freshly dug graveyard. She dismounts and strolls through the final resting places for numerous soldiers. Suddenly, one of the graves begins to move.

CLARA-
"Come out and face me."

The newborn vampire, wearing a torn Union uniform, lunges at her. She kicks him in the face, thankly she got rid of the typical dress that women were wearing for a pair of riding pants. She plunges the stakes into the vampire's heart so hard the tip of the stake exits his back. He explores into dust.

VOICE-
"Holy, did you see that?"

She ducks behind a gravestone as a Union squad comes over the ridge.
