Road Not Taken: Tour guide

by Slayers Of The Night

Buffy, Cordelia, and Willow stepped off the plane and into New York. The JFK airport was full of people coming and going, pushing and shoving. They made their way towards baggage claim and stood, waiting for their suitcases to come around.

“Oh my gosh, could this place get anymore crowded?” Cordelia whined. She jumped as she saw their bags and the thee girls scrambled to get it all before it passed.

“Where are strong boys when you need them?” Buffy sighed as they lugged their bags away from the crowd.

“Actually, we’re right in front of you,” a deep voice said from behind them.

“In front? I only see women in power suites in front. Could you be behind?” Buffy asked coyly as she turned around. Standing before her eye was the most handsome boy she had ever seen. He was tall and broody with dark hair and eyes to match.

“Lemme guess...Buffy?” He asked, grabbing her bags.

“How’d you know?” She responded, feigning surprise. A shorter bleach blond came up from behind the tall dark and brooding one.

“I can get the rest, don’t worry Angel,” he grumbled.

“Don’t mind my brother, he’s not very sociable. I’m Liam, a.k.a. Angel, and grump over there is my brother William, a.k.a. Spike. Crazy nicknames, I know. Don’t ask me to explain. How was the flight?”Angel asked as Buffy and the girls followed him out of the airport.

“The flight was good. Um, this is Cordelia and that’s Willow. Their boyfriends are meeting us on Tuesday. They opted to drive,” Buffy explained. She blushed slightly as Angel watched her with intense eyes.

“Why didn’t you?” Angel asked her as he headed towards a waiting limo.

“I don’t know. We kind of wanted to start our break as soon as possible, reduce travel time,” Buffy shrugged. Cordelia ran up and lightly pinched Buffy’s arm.

“Now this is my kind of traveling,” she whispered as Angel loaded the bags into the trunk. Willow squeaked.

“Wait till you see the house,” Buffy smirked. The five teens crowded into the limo and Angel poured drinks.

“Um, no caffeine for me, it makes me jumpy,” Willow said politely. Angel poured her a water.

“So, why do you have a British accent and Angel doesn’t?” Cordelia asked Spike.

Because I lived there with our dad most of my life. Then mom met Giles and I came here,” Spike shrugged.

“I always opted to live with mom, but Spike chose dad. Nearly broke our poor mother’s heart. Anyway, dad was getting remarried about the same time mom was moving in with Giles, so dad sent Spike here. Didn’t want him moving in on his new wife,” Angel explained.

“Why would you want to move in on your dad’s new wife/” Willow asked, looking at the two boys.

“Cause she’s only about three years older than us,” Spike growled. Willow raised her eyebrows and shrugged. The car ride was relatively short. They were out of the city and into Staten Island before they knew it.

“Cor, look out the window,” Buffy muttered. They pulled through a large wrought iron gate and up a long drive. The house that loomed before them couldn’t even technically be called a house. It was more like a castle. Mostly made of gray stone, it was wide and tall. At the very top was a room with all glass walls.

“What’s the top room?” Willow breathed.

“Hot tub. It’s gorgeous at night, you can just go up there and look at the stars. We’re far enough away from the city that you can actually see them. It’s great for relaxing after a long day,” Angel explained. Buffy hoped that she and Angel would be spending a lot of time...relaxing.

“This place is amazing,” Cordelia laughed. Even her house wasn’t this nice.

“We’ll give you a tour. Just leave your bags in the trunk, Frank will get them and put them in your room,” Angel said as they all stepped out of the limo. Angel offered his hand to Buffy as she climbed out and let it linger a moment after she was out. Buffy could have sworn she saw a spark of interest in his deep chocolate eyes.

“So, tour?” Cordelia asked perkily. Spike glared at Angel.

“Why don’t you give them the tour, peaches, I’m meetin’ Dru,” Spike suggested. He pulled a cigarette out of the pack in his jacket and lit it with a silver lighter. He blew smoke out his nostrils and winked at Buffy. “Have fun on your first night, girls.”

“What’s his deal?” Buffy asked as they approached the house, Angel leading the way.

“He’s got this girlfriend Drusilla. Comes from real old money. Anyway, he’s completely obsessed with her and they practically live together. Or at least they should,” Angel laughed.

“Why?” Cordelia asked him, cocking her head slightly.

“Because they’re always together. Every waking moment, practically, and some not waking moments too,” Angel hinted.

“I can’t imagine that Uncle Giles lets him smoke,” Buffy commented.

“He doesn’t. My mom never let him either, but he does it anyway. Said Dad didn’t care and now he’s far to gone to stop, but it’s a load of bull,” Angel shrugged. They all laughed as they walked up the steps and onto the porch. The door swung open and a tall, rail thin man with salt and pepper hair greeted them.

“Hello, master Liam,” he nodded. Angel smiled and clapped the old man on the shoulder.

“Frank these are Buffy, Cordelia, and Willow,” Angel said, motioning to each of them in turn. They all smiled and nodded at Frank.

“I remember Ms. Summers. Wonderful to meet the two of you ladies. They are still in the room that we discussed?” Frank asked, looking back to Angel.

“Yes, their bags are in the trunk.” Frank tipped his nonexistent hat at the girls and slipped out the door towards the limo. Angel gave them a chance to look around the parlor. White marble floors, a high cathedral ceiling, and an enormous crystal chandelier.

“Shall we go on that tour?” Angel asked, motioning towards the two staircases that wound up opposite sides of the large open parlor.

“Yes please!” All of the girls shouted at once. Buffy had already taken this tour a million times, but she couldn’t wait to go on it with Angel.

“We’ll start upstairs in the hot tub room.” He led them up the main staircase and to anther winding one. At the top of the tight winding staircase was the hot tub room. Buffy gasped. You could see for miles, all the way into the city.

“It’s gorgeous Angel,” Willow said appreciatively. Angel then led them down to the guest room. It was almost as big as Buffy’s entire first floor. The walls were painted a soft yellow and there were French doors leading out to a balcony. Three queen sized beds were placed around the room, along with two expansive walk in closets and two large armoires.

“This is where you’ll be staying,” Angel pointed out. Buffy noticed that their bags were set in the corner.

“Wow. I’ve never seen a room like this,” Cordelia breathed. They finished the tour with the bathrooms, Angel’s bedroom, Spike’s bedroom, and the downstairs.

“And this is the dining room where we’ll be having dinner in about two minutes,” Angel laughed. The table was set and the salads were already out.

“Where should we sit?” Willow asked as Angel sat in his usual chair.

“Anywhere but the ends. That’ were mom and Giles sit,” Angel explained. Buffy slid into the seat next to Angel while Cordelia and Willow sat on the other side.

“Will Spike be joining us?” Buffy asked.

“Nope. You probably won’t see much of him while you’re here,” Angel apologized. Jenny walked into the dining room and gasped.

“Buffy!” She smiled. Buffy stood up to hug Jenny tightly. Jenny’s short black hair was gelled spiky in the back with longer pieces framing her face in the front.

“Oh, Aunt Jenny, it’s soo good to finally meet you!” Buffy squealed. The two had spoken on the phone while planning this vacation, but they had never met.

“Oh, girls, I’m so glad you’re here, and Rupert wishes that he could be here for your first night, but he’s just so busy at the museum. Liam, honey, where’s William?” Jenny asked, looking around the table and noticing that they were one teenager short.

“He’s with Drusilla. Don’t worry, I’m sure he’ll be home in time for Christmas dinner,” Angel laughed. Buffy hid a smile behind her hands. Willow and Cordelia sniggered behind their hands as well.

“Yes, well, let’s eat shall we? I’m pretty sure Elise has made a wonderful steak dinner for us,” Jenny said as she sat down at the end of the table.

“Yum,” Angel said. Elise came out and set a bowl of soup next to each salad.

“I could get used to this,” Cordelia smiled. Angel and Buffy exchanged a look. Buffy could definitely get used to this.
