Returned: prologue
by jiajo
A/N ok since I still haven’t seen seasons 3, 4 and 5 of Angel, we are all going to pretend that whatever happened in them didn’t happen, and in fact Angel and all his little mates stopped existing after they left Sunnydale. All the Buffy history is the same though. And if you don’t like Buffy and Spike being together you’re probably better off not reading this.
Oh yeah and unfortunately I don’t own any of the characters they belong to Joss, I just thought I’d let them out of their boxes before they got too bored
Buffy stared into the crater which was all that was left of Sunnydale, all that was left of the past seven years, and all that was left of Spike. He hadn’t believed her when she had told him she loved him, but she’d been telling the truth. It had taken the most scary apocalypse she had ever had to face for her to admit it, but finally realisation had set in. she loved Spike.
It had been four months since the day they defeated the First, four months of hell. Around her everyone had been moving on with their lives, glad to have survived the apocalypse. Well that wasn’t strictly true. Xander was still heart broken over Anya. ‘But he still has the happy memories’ a little voice always whispered in her head. She was different, she’d treated Spike so badly when he was alive, or undead, or whatever. Looked down on him. Told him he was ‘beneath her’. How wrong she’d been.
It had taken her four months to summon up the courage to come back here. Oh she could fight scary demons and hell beasts but couldn’t even go to one place in the world. Part of the problem was that she felt like she belonged nowhere now. Her place in the world was with Spike in Sunnydale, the slayer. Now she just drifted. One of many, a slayer, alone.
She knew she was being unfair, she still had her friends, her sister. But they didn’t stop her feeling alone. She wished more and more that they had left her in heaven. Then she wouldn’t have had to see Spike die. In fact he would probably be with her. Saving the world has got to be redemption good enough to get you to where she had been. She smiled a little at that thought. He might not have believed her when she had told him she loved him, but at least if he was where she had been, he would know that it was the truth now.
