Chosen One: Part Six A

After a long and seemingly never-ending day of school, it was over. Everyone gathered in the library and Giles pulled Buffy aside as Kathlin sat down, starting her homework with Willow and Xander.

"How are you going to hunt tonight? Your mother will surely notice if you are gone all night again and I’m not so sure that Kathlin can be trusted. I noticed her reading one of the Vampire Texts when I strictly forbade her not to."

"Oh Giles, lighten up. Just because she put one book in the wrong place in your perfect library, you are ready to condemn her. Calm down!” Buffy rolled her eyes at the agitated librarian. She dropped her voice down to a Slayer’s whisper, so no one else could hear.

"I’ll just take her home, then tell Mom I have to finish a research project and I forgot my books at the library. The I’ll tell her I’m working on it at Willow’s, where we might work all night. It’s that simple."

"That could work, but what if she calls Willow’s to see how you’re doing?” queried a voice. Buffy spun around and saw Kathlin looking up at her from across the room.

"Or what if she doesn’t believe your story? Will you sneak out your window?” Buffy looked stunned, even more stunned than Giles.

"You could hear that?” she asked incredulously.

"Of course, I can hear anything within a certain distance. Don’t ask me how; I’ve been able to do it since birth. And do you think that one night at home would kill you? Aunt J says she hasn’t seen you in several days.” Kathlin stood up and looked directly at Giles.

"I don’t care if the world is about to fall apart. Buffy is going to have a regular night at home. And that includes popcorn and a movie. Right?!” She glanced at Buffy, who was starting to smile. Both of them looked at Giles imploringly.

"Now don’t you two start the…."

"Pleeeeeeease!!!!!” they opened their eyes really wide and looked very hopeful.

"Oh alright, as long as you two don’t get into any trouble.” They both smiled at him, looking innocent and very much alike.

"Oh boy”, he thought, “Two Buffys to handle.”
