The Angel of the Opera: Part Sixteen

by KrazyGirl

Buffy found herself standing in the graveyard, just outside a mausoleum. She pulled her blue cloak tighter around her, staring at the grave inside the iron gates. A faded, rusty name was engraved in the gate above her-"Jacob Daaé". A large cross was placed above the grave, lined with candles. Buffy continued to stare at her father's grave, not noticing that, one by one, the candles were lighting up. Her eyes began to water. Song.
"You were once my one companion.
You were all that mattered.
You were once a friend and father.
Then my world was shattered . . .
Wishing you were somehow here again.
Wishing you were somehow near.
Sometimes it seemed,
if I just dreamed,
Somehow you would be here . . .
Wishing I could hear your voice again.
Knowing that I never would.
Dreaming of you won't help me to do
All that you dreamed I could.
Passing bells and sculpted angels.
Cold and monuemental.
Seem for you the wrong companions
You were warm and gentle.
Too many years, fighting back tears.
Why can't the past just die?
Wishing you were somehow here again
Knowing we must say good-bye.
Try to forgive
Teahc me to live
Give me the strength to try!
No more memories.
No more silent tears.
No more gazing across the wasted years.
Help me to say . . . good-bye."

Buffy stood at the gate. The Angel appeared from behind the cross, looking down upon his love. He began to hypnotize her with his voice, and Buffy slowly succumbbed.

Angel
"Wandering child,
so lost, so helpless.
Yearning for my guidance . . ."
Buffy
"Angel or father?
Friend or phantom?
Who is it there, staring?"
Angel
"Too long you've wandered in winter,
Far from my far-reaching gaze . . .
Buffy
"Widly my mind beats against you . . .
Both
"But your/my soul obeys!"

Unbeknownst to either of them, Xander was watching from another grave, his eyes wide with horror. "She returns to him, unwillingly. He calls her back to his lair, with that tormenting voice! The demon!"
Both
"Angel of Music!
You've/I've denied me/you,
turning from true beauty!
Angel of Music!
Do not shun me . . ./My protector . . .
Come to your/me, strange Angel!"
Angel
"I am your Angel of Music.
Come to your Angel of Music."
Xander (bursting out from his spot)
"Angel of Darkness! Cease this torment!"
Angel (ignoring Xander)
"I am your Angel of Music.
Come to me, Angel of Music."

Buffy held out her arms to the Angel, and slowly began to walk to him. Xander rushed to her side. "Buffy! Buffy, listen to me. This man . . . thisthing is not your father! Let her go, demon! Let her go!" Buffy shook her arm free. "Xander, no!" The Angel sensed Buffy slipping away. He resorted to the next plan. "Bravo, bravo monsieur! Such spirited words!" He shot a firball out from his skull-head staff. His challange to Xander lured him to the grave. Buffy shook her head, finally clearing away the Angel's possessive fog. Seeing Xander in great danger, she pulled him away from the graveyeard. They began to run as fireballs pelted behind them. The Angel screamed out, "DON'T GO!!! So be it! Let it be war upon you both!" He vanished in fire . .
