Chapter 4--- A New Life
***It’s about that time****

It took a couple of tried, but Fred finally managed to sit up in bed. She was trying to take the strain off her back. It wasn’t working so she got out of the bed to try to walk it off. Two seconds after she stood up, she was standing in a puddle. She shuffled to the other side of the bed to wake Wesley.

“Wes? Wake up.”

He mumbled something completely incoherent and rolled over.

“Wes, wake up. My water broke.”

“I’ll fix it in the morning,” he said with his face buried firmly in his pillow.

“Wesley!!”

His head snapped up fast enough to break his neck. “Wha…what’s going on? It’s almost two in the morning.”

“The baby’s coming. If it’s not too much trouble, could you get off your ass and take me to the hospital?”

“Oh, my God. I’m sorry. Are you alright?” She glared back at him. “Yes. Stupid question.”

Thirty-six hours later, Fred lay sleeping in her hospital bed while Wesley walked their new baby girl back and forth. She was so perfect and so tiny. Wes could see Fred in her eyes. Once she was sleeping again, he returned he to her bassinet. A knock came from the door and he went to answer it. He knew who it was before he opened it.

“Hey, guys.” Wesley whispered. Angel, Cordelia, Gunn and a poorly disguised Lorne stood in the doorway carrying balloons and flowers.

“Is this a bad time?” Angel asked

“Of course not. We’ve got to be quiet though. Everyone’s sleeping.”

“Not everyone,” Fred said from her bed. She had woken up and was now straining to sit up. Wesley went over to help her. Then, very gently, they all hugged Fred and set aside the gifts they had brought for her.

“How are you feeling?” Gunn asked.

“Probably as bad as I look.”

“You look great,” Cordy assured her.

“I’ve told her that, but she thinks I’m just saying it because she gave me a daughter.”

The four visitors and the new proud papa were all gathered around the newborn. They all agreed that she was the perfect mix of Fred and Wesley. She had Fred’s delicate features and Wesley’s bright blue eyes.

“So, Willa Wyndam-Pryce,” Lorne said, “you’ve been born into quite an interesting little family. What a life you have ahead of you.”

Nine months later

The day had come and Fred couldn’t believe what she was seeing. The rain was falling as if God was pouring buckets of rain right on top of the hotel. Clouds were looming and were showing no sign of moving. Her picture perfect wedding day was falling apart. Their small garden ceremony was not going to happen.

“I cannot believe this. Mama, what are we gonna do. It’s cats and dogs out there.” Fred was standing by the window all ready to go in her strapless ivory wedding gown.

“It’s not the end of the world, baby girl. You and Wesley can get married anytime.” Mrs. Burkle was putting the finishing touches on her daughter’s hair.

“I’m tired of waitin’. Today is my weddin’ day. I wanna get married.” “This sucks. All I wanted was a little garden ceremony. It’s California! Isn’t it against the law for it to rain here anyway?” Fred was not happy. She didn’t want to be upset on her day. Suddenly there was a knock at her door.

“What?!” Fred shouted.

“Fred, it’s me, can I come in?“ Wesley answered.

“I’m in my dress, baby.”

“Good. Let’s get married.”

Fred just didn’t care anymore, so she went and opened the door. Wesley stood there in his tux looking very hot and distinguished. She found him very sexy, but it did nothing to ease her frustrations.

“Wesley, what are you talking about? Have you looked outside? There is no way we can have the wedding we want today.”

“I know. Do you remember your baby shower? You said perfect wasn’t our style. Our lives are chaotic. With our track record, we can’t really be surprised by this, can we?”

“I know what I said. I’ve just always wanted to get married outside. A cute little garden ceremony.”

“Then let’s have one.”

“It’s pouring out.” She found herself wondering why she had to explain why this wasn’t a good plan.

“I’ll bring an umbrella.”

“Are you insane?”

“Not that I’m aware of. Darling, a cookie-cutter sun-shiny day just wouldn’t be us.”

She looked into his eyes and saw that he was entirely serious. She loved that he knew her so well. Overwhelmed with emotion, Fred kissed him. “I love you, Wesley.”

**********************************

“…you may now kiss the bride.”

Wesley dropped the umbrella he was holding and allowed the rain to fall on him and his new wife. They laughed and shared their first kiss as man an wife as the rest of the guests looked on from under shelter. Soaked, but happy, the newly weds ran back inside the Hyperion to start their reception. Once the party got underway, Fred pulled her new husband aside.

“Wesley, you have made this day so special for me. Thank you for not letting me postpone it.”

“Yeah, well I couldn’t go any longer without you as my wife.”

“What is it about you that makes you say all the right things.”

“It’s you. It’s always been you.”
