Welcome to Your Alternity: Epilogue
by slayerfest
Spike sat on his ratty armchair and watched some primetime soap on TV. He barely moved when Rupert Giles burst through the door.
“Well, well. If it isn’t Watcher Boy. What’s blowing up your skirt?”
“Sleeper vamps don’t exist.”
Spike raised his eyebrows but didn’t look away from his programme. “Don’t they?”
“You know right well they don’t. What’s really going on here, Spike? Are you behind it?”
“No! What would be gained for me if I did? I’m just doing what you told me, Rupes.”
“Told you? I haven’t told you anything!”
“Not here, you haven’t.” He looked at the Watcher out of the corner of his eye. “Put it together. I gave you the basic hints, I thought with your enormous brain that you’d be able to figure it out.”
Giles was silent for a few moments. Then— “Alternity vamps.”
Spike sneered. “Ten points to the Brit. Or, the Brit who’s alive.”
Giles didn’t say anything for a while. Just stood there. Spike, feeling passive, went back to his programme while the Watcher thought on it. “You saved us.”
Spike expression was blank. “You could put it that way.”
“Why?”
Spike’s turn to be silent. After a few seconds, Giles dismissed the subject and turned to leave. He stopped at the door. “What was the other side like?”
To this, Spike turned his head and looked not at Giles but at the wall near Giles. “If I told you, you’d regret I had.”
Spike turned his head back to the programme and Giles knew the conversation was over. He stood at the door for a moment and then left the crypt.
