Wolverines Bite Back: Part Three

by Kirbyclause

"So Mr., auhm...", the librarian began. "Wolverine.", I told him. "Ah, yes, Wolverine. You were abducted by vampires last night during a bar brawl. I have three questions, the first being why are you not disturbed to know about vampires?", he asked me.

"I've been around the block a few times in my day, bub.", I told him. "Met a few folks who said they were part vampire, didn't have any reason not to believe 'em." The blonde chick, Buffy, spoke up, nervous. "Vampires can have children?", she asked, surprised. She sat down hard. "If the people that talked to me were telling the truth. It's not very likely in my business, but you never know." Buffy whined.

We were in the school's library. Good place for the daytime if you want to research up on vamps. Wouldn't be caught dead in a place like this in a town like this during night though.

Giles continued. "My second question, why go after you and not Buffy?", he asks. "It seems your local vampire boss, Angelus was it, needs your Slayer bumped off. He hired an old...aquaintance of mine to do the job. Sabretooth's his name." "Sabretooth the Destroyer?", Giles asked. Seemed to have got the ball rolling in his head. "Drinks blood?", he says. "Not denyin' it.", I said. "Heals rapidly?", he says. "Not denyin' it.", I says. "Permanently angry, talons for nails, breif fangs, hightened senses?", he asks. "You seem to know a lot about Sabretooth yourself.", I told him. "Why...yes, I guess I do.", Giles admitted. "I've been following the path of this demon/"

I cut him off. "He's not a demon. He's a mutant, just like me.", I told him. He just looks at me through those glasses he has. "So you've answered my third question. Gooday Wolverine. We have no interest in working with mutants." Quick, polite...dismissed. The brush off just like that.

I stood up. "I don't know who you think you are bub, but your girl's dead meat against Sabretooth. And I seem to have a bit of debt to the lady. So if you think you can get rid o' me that easy, you must be thinkin' of somebody else." Then this Giles character shows what I never thought I'd see in a librarian. A whole lot of guts.

He walked up to me and looked me straight in the eye. "Mutants only spread damage and chaos. This has been shown time and again, by mutants using their abilities to become super criminals and the rest putting themselves above the law and the real human population in their personal grudges against the prior. You are a liability by birth Wolverine. The only good mutant is one that is working a cure for his or her condition.

"I will not have Buffy weakened by your association.", he told me. I stared him right back. "You think your girl is all she needs, bub? Sabretooth's gonna have her for breakfast. When he got her, I'll be at the Bronze. Come get me if you can swallow that chip you got on your shoulder."

Crazy day. Get told about the Slayer, vampires damn near kill you because you've lost your edge for the unexpected, and you got to see a good girl get wacked because her boss don't like 'muties'. Crazy flamin' day.

"Well bravo Giles.", Buffy clapped sarcastically. Giles stared her down. "Don't tell me you actually support that mutant.", he demanded. "What I support is that that Sabretooth guy is huge.", Buffy countered. "If Wolverine had a way to take him down, I'd like to listen. After all, it's my life on the line out there."

The librarian looked at Buffy with the eyes of a parent trying to reason with a child to evade the child's corruption. "Buffy. The Slayer must protect herself...f-from damaging influences. Wolverine's a mutant. What else must I say to get you to see reason?" Buffy looked back at him and didn't see the educated Giles that she knew she could trust. The Slayer stormed away from her Watcher. Willow and Xander looked frantically from Giles to the swinging Library doors, and decided to follow Buffy.

"I can't believe he's actually that pompous. If he wanted to warn me about people, why didn't he warn me about Angel?", Buffy asked her freinds. Xander openned his mouth, but shut it under Willow's stern eye. "He just wants to protect you Buffy.", Willow told her. "From everything."

"Then maybe he'd give a guy a chance, even if he is a mutant.", Buffy told her. "I mean, Wolverine knows about the guy. You saw how many vampires he ripped to shreads at the Bronze. Now Giles chases him away before we even get the full story on either of them."

"Look, Buff...", Xander began. "Maybe you ought to stay in tonight. You know, kind of lay low." A smile crept over Xander's face. "Ahh.", he sighed softly. "Buffy laying low..."

Snapping fingers broke the boy from his revere. "Huh?", Xander asked Willow. "Buffy went home to change for patrol.", she told the boy. "You can put your tongue back in your mouth now. She's gone home."

"Oh.", Xander said. They spotted their respective mates. "I'll see you.", they told each other.

Oz and Willow were creeping through the cemetary. They came looking to support Buffy in a time of need. The only guy who had any real experience with the mutant Sabretooth had been insulted off by Giles. The new couple didn't know what they could do against him, but they could try their best against the vampires that would be with him.

On the other side of the cemetary, Cordelia and Xander were arguing while searching for Buffy. "You're only using me as a substitute for Buffy. We wouldn't be here if you didn't need to fantasize about her when we make out.", Cordelia told him. "Oh, that's accurate. God forbid we're actually out her to help out the one person that saves you, Ms. Victim of the Week.", Xander replied. "The only person I'm a victim of is you, a victim of your extreme oafishness.", Cordelia spat. "Well, I don't know why I'm trying to keep you safe. Maybe if the vampires got a taste of you they'd give up on human blood for well beyond my life time."

"You dress like a car accident.", Cordelia said. "You dress like a prostitute on her day off.", Xander replied. "At least I have a car.", Cordelia stated. "At least I have a brain.", Xander replied. They paused for half a second. Then they rushed together to kiss passionately.

"Wow." Cordelia and Xander broke apart to find Willow and Oz staring at them. "I didn't know how romantic a fist fight could be.", Oz continued. "Uh, hey.", Xander said. "Did either of you find Buffy?", he asked them.

The Slayer came flying over a row of bushes, broke a head stone with her back, and landed in front of them. "The weather man should have said something about the 30% chance of Slayer fall.", a voice told the teens. Sabretooth stomped through the hedge, followed by a large amount of vampires. The teens were quickly surrounded and restrained.

Sabretooth proceeded to poke them each with a single talon and lick the drop of blood from his finger. "Salty,", he said, tossing Xander to a couple of vampires. "Ooh, a sweet one.", taking a taste of Willow. Sabretooth continued to catalogue the flavors of the Slayer's freinds, before taking them back to Angelus.
