HAPPY ENDING... Part 1
Prologue:
Buffy called Angel from the hospital.
“Where are you?” The vampire asked.
“Hospital,” Buffy told him.
“Are you alright?”
“Just a little mortally wounded,” Buffy said. “Should heel in not time, though. With my amazing slayer healing ability and all.”
“Are you sure?”
“Yep,” Buffy said.
“That’s good. How’s everyone else?”
“For the most part, fine. We did have a few casualties, though. Anya, a few potential slayers, and ...” her voice trailed off. She wasn’t ready to speak his name yet.
“Spike,” Angel said.
“Yeah.”
“I’m sorry,” Angel said sincerely.
“Thanks.”
“So, what else happened? Did you win?”
“Was there ever any doubt?” Buffy asked.
She filled him in on the events of the past few days.
“Huh,” Angel said. “So, Sunnydale is a really big hole in the ground now.”
“Yep,” Buffy said. “Mostly courtesy of that thing you brought me and... the person who wore it into battle.”
Angel sighed quietly. “So, what are you going to do now?”
“Hadn’t really given much thought as to what I was gonna do in the future. The past couple weeks the only thing on the agenda has been ‘don’t die.’ I think we’ll probably just rent some rooms at a motel to regroup. I’m sure the majority of the new slayers will want to go home for a while, though.”
“Well, if you need a place to stay... I’ve got plenty of room,” Angel offered.
“You sure we wouldn’t be in the way?” Buffy asked.
“Nope,” Angel said. “Fred and I are the only ones that live here at the moment and we’re going to be moving out soon.”
“Where are you going?”
“I told you we were working for Wolfram and Hart now, didn’t I?”
“Yeah,” Buffy said.
“Well, seems they have these really snazzy penthouses for all their top executives. Mine’s on the top floor of the building.”
Buffy rolled her eyes. She just hoped Angel knew what he was doing taking over an evil law firm and all.
“Wait. You said that you and Fred are the only ones living there. What about Cordy? I thought she was living there too.”
“Cordy’s missing,” Angel said. He filled her in on the events of the past few months, excluding the parts about Connor.
“Wow,” Buffy said when he was done. “So that thing impregnated her? That’s way freaky. Any idea how it managed that?”
Angel closed his eyes, not sure what to tell her.
“It probably happened while she was on that higher plane, am I right?”
“That’s what we think,” Angel said, relieved.
“We can help you look for her,” Buffy offered.
“I’d appreciate the help,” Angel said. “When do you think you’ll be through there?”
“Pretty much now. We were just waiting for them to finish bandaging everyone up, and they’re done.”
“How many rooms do you think you’ll need?”
“Um, hold on.”
“I’m back,” she said a few seconds later. “There’s nine of us, but some of us can double up if you don’t have enough room.”
Angel laughed. “You’ve never seen this place, have you?”
“I’ll take that as a ‘you’ve got room,’” Buffy said.
“Do you need directions?”
“No. Willow and Faith have been there before, remember?”

FROM THE DIARY OF DAWN SUMMERS:
May 27, 2003
Dear Diary,
Well, it’s been almost a week since the final battle with The First Evil. At least I hope it was the final battle. With an ancient evil like that you never really can tell, can you?
Well, we’ve been staying at Angels hotel pretty much since we left the hospital. All of the potentials-turned-slayers, except Kennedy, went home. She stayed to be with Willow, which is sweet, but I still liked Tara better. Kennedy seems pretty much like a spoiled brat to me. (Off topic...)
What else... Oh Giles went back to England for a little while. Last I heard, he was meeting with what was left of the watchers there to try and reform the council. From what I hear, there aren’t that many. I think he’s only found about sixteen so far. That might seem like a lot, but it’s not if you think about it because there were about twelve thousand at their headquarters when it was blown up.
Angel and his group seem to be getting into running an evil law firm. Sometimes Buffy wonders if he’s evil again. But I think most of the time she’s joking.
This hotel is seriously huge I still haven’t been able to explore the whole thing. And I doubt I’ll ever be able to.
Xander’s still upset about Anya. I am too. I can’t believe she’s gone. Spike too. I can’t tell how Buffy is taking it. She’s gotten good at the hiding of her emotions. I really miss him most of the time. Every time I try to talk to Buffy about him she either ignores me, or quickly changes the subject. At least Xander talks about Anya a little. I don’t think it’s healthy for her to bottle everything up like this.
Cordy is still missing. When Angel told us the story about what happened to all them last year I couldn’t believe it. It’s all too depressing.
Anything else? Oh, mustn’t forget Andrew, our used to be hostage that just won’t seem to go away He’s like possessed or something. With the cooking and the cleaning and the... He totally waxed the lobby yesterday and Kennedy fell on her butt It was hilarious Wish I’d had a camera. Of course, there is a down side. Every time someone does something like track in dirt, or spill something, he freaks Maybe I should have Willow perform an exorcism on him. Not really. I know he’s not possessed, just annoying. I actually found a mint on my pillow last night. He seriously goes around every morning and makes everyone’s beds Tell me that’s not possessed Now he’s breaking out the mints. What a geek
And last, but not least, there’s Robin and Faith. I’m beginning to wonder if there’s something going on between them ‘cause I keep catching these looks they’ve been giving each other. It would be cool if there is. I really like Faith. She’s kinda like a big sister only she lets me get away with a lot more. Robin, on the other had, is a different story. I like him and all, it’s just weird calling him ‘Robin’ instead of ‘Principal Wood,’ and seeing him all the time. It really sucks that Spike is the vampire that killed his mom. But it’s cool that a slayer was able to have a kid. Maybe some day Buffy...
Anyway, I guess that’s all for now. I’m supposed to go to Wolfram and Hart with Faith to pick up some spell books for Willow in a minute. Hopefully there will be a spell she can use to find Cordy.
Oh, and you’re not gonna believe this, but we’ve got a case. This woman came in yesterday and...

“I think my neighbor is a serial killer,” Melissa Logan confided. “For the past few weeks I’ve seen him bring a different woman to his apartment every night. Later I see in the paper, or on the news that they are missing or dead.”
“Have you gone to the police?” Buffy asked.
Melissa nodded. “They tink I’m crazy.”
“Why’s that?” Faith asked.
“Because I told them I think he’s a vampire.”
Buffy and Faith exchanged an amused glance.
Melissa sighed. “Great,” she said, standing. “Now you guys think I’m, crazy.”
“No,” Buffy assured her. “What makes you think he’s a vampire?”
“Well, I’ve never seen him during the day. He’s really pale, and strong, and last week... he bit me.”
“Where?” Buffy asked, alarmed.
“In my apartment,” Melissa replied. “He came over and asked if he could borrow a cup of sugar. At the time I didn’t suspect anything so I invited him in.”
“No,” Faith said. “Where on your body did he bite you?”
“Oh,” Melissa said, a little embarrassed. She took off her scarf and showed them her neck.
“Ok,” Buffy said. “What happened after you invited him in?” She started taking notes.
“I went into the kitchen to get the sugar and he followed me.” She stopped, looking a little frightened.
“Take your time,” Buffy told her.
Melissa sighed heavily. “Then he grabbed me. Right in front of my dishwasher.” She laughed a little. “My first thought was that he was going to rape me,” she admitted.
“How did you get away?” Faith asked.
“I grabbed the knife on my cutting board and stabbed him.”
“You stabbed him?” Buffy asked.
Melissa nodded.
“Where?” Faith asked.
“In the throat. Then I ran.”
“You did the right thing,” Buffy said.
Melissa smiled weakly.
“What did the cops say?” Faith asked.
“They thought I was making it up. But they did go out to talk to him.”
“And what did he say?”
“That I was crazy! He actually told them that I had a crush on him for some time now, and when he kept ignoring my advances I concocted this whole thing to get back at him!”
“How did he explain the bite mark?” Buffy wondered.
“He said it was probably self inflicted. I think they wanted to have me committed on the spot. My brother-in-law is a psychiatrist so they said they’d let me go if I went to stay with him and my sister. That’s where I’ve been ever since. I haven’t even gone back to the apartment to pick up my purse, much less, my clothes.”
Buffy finished taking notes.
“Do you think I’m, crazy?” Melissa asked.
“No,” the slayers said in unison.
“So, will you take my case? I can pay you. Is $5000 enough? If not, I could give you more.”
Buffy called Andrew in. “Could you take Miss...”
“Call me “Melissa.’”
“Could you take Melissa into the kitchen for a few minutes and get her a cup of coffee?” Buffy asked Andrew.
Andrew nodded and led Melissa out of the room.
When they were gone, Buffy let out a low whistle.
“Five-thousand dollars,” Faith was in awe.
“For slaying one vampire? That’s an awful lot of money.”
“No doubt,” Faith agreed. “So, are we gonna take the case?”
“Well. We do need the money.”
“So, we’re gonna take it?”
“We’d be crazy not to,” Buffy admitted.
“Who should go?”
“Me and you. It’s only one vampire. No need to be over do it.”
“And you think that two slayers isn’t over doing it?” Faith asked.
“Better to be safe, than sorry,” Buffy said.
The slayers joined Melissa and Andrew in the kitchen.
“We’ve talked it over,” Buffy said.
“And?” Melissa asked.
“We’ll take the case.”
Melissa smiled.
“So, we can head over to your apartment as soon as you’re ready,” Buffy said.
“There’s no time like the present,” Melissa said, standing. “Thanks for the coffee,” she told Andrew.
“Any time,” Andrew said, giving her a little salute.
Buffy and Faith rolled their eyes.
On their way out the door, Buffy and Faith made a quick stop for weapons.
“So,” Melissa said uneasily. “It’s just you two going?”
Buffy and Faith exchanged an amused glance.
“Trust me,” Buffy said. “We’re a lot stronger than we look.”
***
“That’s his apartment,” Melissa said, pointing at #634.
“What do you wanna do?” Faith asked.
Buffy walked up to the door and knocked. There was no answer so she knocked a second, then a third time.
Jason Dean opened his door before she had the chance to knock a fourth time.
“What do you want?” He growled.
“Oh,” Buffy said innocently. “I’m sorry. Did I wake you?”
Jason smiled a little when he saw her. “That’s ok,” he said. “What can I do for you?”
“I’m selling magazine subscriptions,” Buffy said.
“Well,” Jason’s smile grew wider. “Why don’t you come in and tell me about them?” He asked as he stepped to the side so she could come in.
“Are you sure this is a good idea?” Melissa whispered to Faith from their hiding place down the hall.
Jason looked up and down the hall before closing the door.
“She’ll be fine,” Faith assured her.
A few seconds later Jason’s apartment door opened and buffy emerged, followed closely by Jason.
“Faith,” Buffy called. “I wouldn’t say no to a little help her!”
“Oh my god!” Melissa cried when three female vampires followed Jason out into the hall.
With the two slayers working together, they quickly dusted the four vamps in the hall, then made a quick sweep of the apartment.
“All clear,” Buffy announced.
Melissa stood there in shock for a few seconds before quickly opening her apartment door.
Buffy and Faith followed her inside.
“Wow,” Melissa said. “So, I was right? He was a vampire?”
“Yep,” Buffy confirmed. “But at least now we know what happened to those missing girls.”
Melissa shivered a little. “You guys were great.”
Buffy and Faith smiled.
“Where did you learn to fight like that?” she asked as she grabbed her purse.
“Years and years of training,” Buffy said.
“Like martial arts?” Melissa asked.
“Sure,” Buffy said. “Among other things.”
“I don’t have enough cash,” Melissa said. “Can you guys give me a lift to the bank?”
“Sure,” Buffy said.
