Scars: White Knight

“Sorry I’m late,” Giles said as he entered the dinning room and sat down at the table joining Buffy, William and Jenny, “so what did everyone do today?”
“Buffy and I went to London to see the sites,” William said.
“That’s nice,” Giles commented and turning to Buffy he said, “Buffy, what do you think of London?”
“It’s nice….we had a really good time.”
“That’s wonderful,” Jenny said, “So Rupert how was work?”
“Busy as always,” he said just as the phone began to ring.
“I’ll get it,” Jenny offered.
“So what did you go see?” Giles said turning back towards Buffy and William.
“The London Eye among other things,” William replied.
“The view from there is spectacular,” Giles said.
“Yeah it is,” Buffy agreed. It was nice to have a normal family dinner for once she thought. She couldn’t remember the last time she had had a dinner at home that didn’t end with someone getting hurt or something being broken.
“Buffy?” Jenny said holding her hand over the receiver of the telephone in the far corner of the dining room where it was located, “the phone it’s for you.”
“Who is it?” Buffy asked.
“Your father.”
Buffy slowly got up and took the receiver. She did not want to talk to him as far as she was concerned she didn’t have a father. She hated him so much.
“You shouldn’t have bothered calling. You wasted your one phone call,” Buffy said bluntly into the phone and then quickly hung it up without waiting for a response from the person on the other line.
Buffy was about to leave the room when Giles said something, “Buffy don’t you think you should at least talk to your father.”
“You expect me to talk to him…after everything he’s done….its not like he’s changed he hasn’t and he never will and I wouldn’t talk to him even if he did. I hate him! And as far as I’m concerned he can rot in hell,” she said her voice full of venom and then she left running upstairs to her room.

Buffy sat on her bed with her head in her hands. She was so frustrated and confused and mad and scared. She hated this. It was all just too much to handle. She was worried about her mom and she just didn’t know what she was supposed to do. I just want it to all be over already Buffy thought. I want it all to end. I want the pain to stop.
She looked over at her bed side table and noticed a piece of paper on it. It had Lindsey’s number on it, the guy who had given her a lift from the airport.
Buffy picked up the phone and dialed the number, “Hey Lindsey its Buffy, the girl from the airport….is that invitation to have some fun still open?”

A little while later:
Giles and Jenny sat in the pallor talking when the heard a loud nose that sounded like a motorcycle outside the house.
“What the bloody hell is going on?” Giles yelled as he walked into the foyer. Just as he was about to open the door and see what was going on Buffy came running down the stairs.
“Sorry that’s my ride.”
“I’m not letting you get on that…that thing with that…..that hoodlum,” Giles commented as he pointed at Lindsey.
“Okay whatever,” Buffy said as she put on her coat.
“Where are you going?”
“Out.”
“No, you’re not.”
“Are you going to stop me?” Buffy challenged not waiting for a reply she quickly walked over to Lindsey and got onto the back of his motorcycle.
“Buffy! Come back here this instant! Buffy!” Giles yelled after her.

William stared out the window as he watched Buffy ride off on the back of some whelp’s motorcycle. He was jealous he admitted it but only to himself. He didn’t want to believe it but in the few days he had known her, he had fallen for her. He had fallen for her hard.
I don’t have a chance William thought not with guys like him around. William knew he wasn’t cool or a least not by the definition his peers followed. He was often made fun of and bullied and he was sick and tired of it. If he wanted it to stop he was going to have to change. He was a little afraid of a change but he thought that maybe just maybe if he changed he could be more confident possibly even cool. Then maybe his peers would stop bullying him and maybe even girls would notice him. Although he only wanted one girl’s attention in particular.
William picked up the phone. He decided if he wanted to see a change he needed help and he knew just the person to call, “Hello, Faith its William…good listen. I was wondering if you could do me a favor…thanks….okay yeah I’ll meet you there….Yeah I know the place. Bye…see you tomorrow.”
Faith had been a good friend of Drusilla's, he hadn’t seen her since the funeral but he figured she would help him. She owed him; it was because of him and his tutoring that she had been able to graduate high school.

“Ready to have some fun?” Lindsey asked Buffy as they entered the party. Inside it was crowded and the music was blaring. Buffy only nodded in response to his question, “Come on do you want some beer?”
“Buffy and beer don’t really mix well,” she replied but instead of remembering the one time she had gotten drunk Buffy flashed back to another time.
****************************************
Flashback:
Buffy had come home from a party Willow, Oz, Xander, and Cordelia had dragged her to. Despite her worrying that her father would find out she had had a great time that was until Forrest, one of the school jocks had spilled a cup of beer on her. She had cleaned her shirt but she hadn’t been able to get rid of the smell. Her father had noticed the smell and he had been furious.
“Have you been drinking?” he yelled.
“No, I can explain,” Buffy said.
“You little whore. I know you’re lying. What have I told you about lying to me?” he said as his fist connected with her jaw and she fell to the floor. He grabbed her hair and pulled her head back so she was looking at him, “I can smell the alcohol on you.”
“Let go of me,” Buffy yelled.
**************************************
“Buffy? You okay?” Lindsey asked, awakening Buffy from her day dream.
“Yeah.”
“Okay good,” he said with a smile, “So no beer what do you want instead?”
“Do you have anything stronger?” Buffy asked. She wanted to escape; to get away and forget everything.
“Then beer?” he said as Buffy nodded, “I’ll see what I can find.”

William walked out of his room and down the hall past Buffy’s. When he looked inside he noticed a piece of paper on the floor it had an address on it. William assumed it was where Buffy went and decided to follow and make sure she was alright.
************************************
A few hours and lots and lots of shots later Buffy was on the dance floor with Lindsey. They slowly moved to the beat of the music together their body’s intertwining.
After the song was over they went to sit down on the couch. Slowly Lindsey pushed a strand of hair out of Buffy's face and he moved his face closer to hers until their lips were touching and they began to kiss. This kiss was quite different from the one Buffy had shared with William only hours earlier this one was based on drunk passion and lust, nothing more. The kiss she had shared with William had been sweet and full of love and compassion.
Buffy knew this was wrong she didn’t care about Lindsey but the alcohol had taken over by know and had clouded her better judgment. All she wanted was to forget.
“Buffy what are you doing?” William yelled. It hurt so much to see her kissing him. He felt as though his heart had been ripped out.
Buffy pulled away from Lindsey, “Having fun. God William don’t look so upset it wouldn’t kill you to loosen up a little have a little fun.”
“How could you kiss him after….after?”
“Oh please it’s not like we’re married. We’re not evening dating. We kissed that’s all,” she said. She was regretting everything she said but it was like she couldn’t control it, the alcohol had taken over and all the anger she had kept bottled up inside was being let out.
“Have you been drinking?” he asked pulling her inside a closet so they could talk in private.
“Yes, daddy are you gonna punish me now?” she asked her voice sultry with a hint of sarcasm.
“Buffy, you’re drunk.”
“Come on William I know you like me. I’ve seen the way you look at me,” Buffy said as she moved closer to him, putting her hands on his chest, “Come on Will, give it to me good.” Buffy laughed.
“I’m taking you home.”
“No, I don’t want to go I’m having fun.”
“We’re going home,” William said grabbing her arm and pulling her towards the door.
“No,” Buffy said pulling it away, “Who do you think you are? You can’t tell me what to do, you’re not my father; which is good cuz he’s an abusive bastard and he’s in jail! You’re not my mother, which is good too cuz she’s in a coma; he put her there! Come on William don’t look so shocked! Why do you think I wear long sleeve shirts all the time?! I’m covering up all my bruises, my scars! You’re the one who wanted to know why I am the way I am so bad always asking questions; well there’s your answer I’m fucked up because since as long as I can remember I’ve been beat down! Come on say something.”
“Buffy,” William said softly, still in shock. He had had no idea.
“Isn’t that why you came here to try and save me, stop me from doing something stupid what are you going to do to save me from this are you going to hold me while I cry and tell you all about my horrible life!!”
“Buffy it’s going to be okay.”
“No, it’s not; you don’t know that so don’t tell me it’s going to be okay! You can’t save me William! You can’t be my white knight and I’m not going to live happily ever after! I’ve accepted it! Why can’t you?!” and with that she ran out of the room and upstairs into the bathroom, where she locked the door and slumped to the floor sobbing.
************************************
“Buffy please come out,” William asked from outside the bathroom door. He had been standing there trying to coax her out for the past hour and he was getting frustrated.
“I don’t think she’s coming out any time soon,” a girl his age commented from where she was standing behind him. In response William raised his eyebrows at her, “I’m Anya, by the way.”
“William,” he said turning back towards the door.
“Listen if you want I’ll give her a ride home when she comes out.”
“No thank you but I have it under control.”
“Doesn’t look that way. Listen she’s obviously mad at you and she’s not gonna come out while you’re still here so…”
“Buffy?!”
“Go to hell,” Buffy yelled through the door.
William yelled in frustration and kicked the wall. He turned to find Anya still staring at him expectantly. “Fine, but if anything happens to her I’ll kill you,” he said and with that he left.
