WHATS RIGHT: 1

by Spikes Queen

Spike looked at a crying Dawn. He hated seeing the Summers women in pain. He approached her and reached his hand out to run his hand over her head. “It’ll be okay, Nibblet,” Spike said.

Dawn stood and hugged Spike. He was stunned but wrapped his arms around her.

“Spike, everyone’s getting hurt because of me. It’s not fair to Tara,” Dawn whimpered.

Spike sat on the bed she had vacated and cradled her in his arms. “It’ll be okay.”

“How Spike?” Dawn asked.

“I don’t know. I wish I did. But, Buffy’s dealt with things similar to this. She’ll pull through. Along with everyone else. Including you,” Spike said. “I’m not gunna let anything happen to you or your sister. Promise.”

Dawn nodded. “Okay,” she whispered, falling asleep in his lap.

About 20 minutes later, Buffy found them in the same spot. Spike didn’t seem to notice her as he watched Dawn sleep.

“Hey,” she said, softly.

Spike looked up at her. “Hi.”

“She okay?” Buffy asked, sitting on the floor next to Dawn.

“Tired and upset,” Spike said.

“Tara?” Buffy asked, and he nodded.

“How is she?” Spike asked.

“Crazy,” Buffy whispered, looking down at the ground. She laid her head on Spike’s leg, where Dawn wouldn’t be disturbed. “Do you mind?”

“No. Get some sleep,” he said, and she fell asleep.

When Buffy woke, Dawn was still sleeping and she smiled fondly.

“The sun went down if you wanna get her home,” Spike said.

Buffy stood up. “Can you come?”

Spike nodded and carried Dawn home.

Buffy reinvited Spike in and he took Dawn upstairs to bed. Buffy took off her shoes and took the clips out of her hair.

Spike watched from the doorway. “You okay, Pet?” He asked.

Buffy joined him. “I look at her and Glory is running out of options. She’s gone through Tara and you. Spike, I’m running out of options,” she whispered, going to her own room.

Spike followed. “Don’t give up,” he said.

“Take Dawn and get out of town,” Buffy said, looking at him.

Spike stopped short. “Excuse me?”

“Spike, Dawn can’t stay,” she said, looking into his arms. “You love me?”

“Yes,” Spike whispered.

“Then please do this,” she said, tears forming in her eyes.

“When?” Spike asked.

“Tonight. Take mom’s SUV to L.A. Angel will do the rest. Just check in with me to let me know how she is,” Buffy said.

“I’ll get the Nibblet ready,” Spike said.

A half hour later, Spike climbed into the driver side of the SUV.

“Give this to Dawn,” Buffy said, handing him a family picture and a letter. “In case.”

Spike sighed. “I don’t think I can leave you here by yourself,” he said.

Buffy kissed him softly. “Just take care of Dawn.”

Spike nodded. “I will,” he said, pulling out of the drive way.

Buffy looked at the sky. “Mom, I hope you’re right.”

2 weeks later, Spike was watching Dawn sleep in the hotel he had checked into in Nebraska. The ring of the telephone brought Spike out of his thoughts. “Buffy?” He asked, hopefully.

“It’s safe,” Buffy said. “It’s over.”

“It’s gunna be awhile, Pet. We’re in Nebraska,” Spike said, already packing.

“I’ll wait,” Buffy said, and they hung up.

3 days later, Spike walked through the door with a sleeping Dawn.

Buffy smiled at him tiredly, and followed him upstairs.

Buffy smiled. “Thank you.”

Dawn whimpered. “Spike..”

Buffy looked at Spike curiously.

“It happens a lot,” Spike said, going over the girl. “Shhh, Nibblet. It’s okay.”

Dawn quieted and Buffy smiled. “Spike, lets go get some sleep,” she said, pulling him to her room.

Without anymore words, Buffy and Spike fell into bed. Spike held Buffy close to him and they fell asleep, their hand entwined.
