He stalked around the bushes quickly, with quiet stealth, just to catch a glimpse of the rapidly walking form. The waning moon reflected off of her hair and the ethereal glow emanating from it formed a saintly halo about her face. Even the surrounding scenery of the park was enchanted by her. It was as if the trees parted and lifted their overhanging branches, just to look in wonder as she hurried by. And still he followed her, he couldn’t get enough of her presence, even if she was not aware of his. Her goodness and love projected from her body, beyond her aura. Everything she touched or passed was blessed.
But she was not aware of all this, all she felt was fear. Every night she felt his presence, always nearby, following, watching her. Every night in bed she felt his eyes boring into her, as if his life depended on her image in his eyes.
He closed his eyes and deeply inhaled the air through his nose. And the pleasure, oh Gods, the pleasure left him swooning and craving for more. Her scent was a mixture of vanilla, pumpkin, and fear. His eyes rolled back as the scent of fear grew stronger, and it was heaven and hell at the same time. Her fear was like a drug and he always wanted more, more of the pleasure filled euphoria of her terror filled blood calling to him.
She quickened her pace into a trot, and as the breeze nipped at her ears, she wrapped her arms around herself protectively and she kept her eyes focused on the warm light in the distance. Home wasn’t far away if she reached the light. Adrenaline pumped into her veins and the primitive instinct of survival, no matter what, controlled her body. She had to get away, and she had to get away fast.
As he maneuvered his lithe body through a labyrinth of blackberry bushes, he heard her breathing accelerate, as well as her pulse. This just heightened his excitement, even further than before. Why he was drawn to her, even he didn’t know. It was either lust, infatuation, or hunger, maybe all three. Maybe it was curiosity, he constantly asked himself and the Gods if she was just an apparition, a specter, an angel sent from heaven above. But he knew she was a mortal, he felt the heat from her skin radiating out, into the night. But still she nevertheless glowed with a strong supernatural, but innocent energy, that made even he pale in comparison.
As she entered the empty, but luminous street, her base instincts went on overdrive. All blood flowed to her muscles and the hair on the back of her neck stood on end. she thought to herself, and with that she bolted down the street, not looking back.
He watched with casual interest as her figure swiftly got smaller as she distanced herself from the city park limits. He chuckled to himself and lit the cigarette that was hanging from his lips. “She’s fair game alright...and I love challenges.” he mumbled to himself, almost incoherently, hence the cigarette. He thought back to a year ago, when she first captivated his curiosity. Cor, he still laughed at the memory of the outrageous events that ensued from his presence. She was at his complete mercy, and yes, she was terrified... but her eyes told a different story. Even though he caught her eyes for only a moment, it seemed like he was trapped in the depths for ages. The bravery and fire in her eyes shocked him into a stupor. He realized that she had a wisdom of ages, of many lives and that she had tapped only a sliver of it. She was a bountiful fountain of love, purity, and loyalty. She had been a martyr and a saint in another life. And she would, in a second, give her life again in sacrifice for another. He realized that she had a power that could save the world.
