You Wanna Save Them?: You Wanna Save Them?
by Angelzbabygrl
I wasn't sure if anyone answered this challenge already, so I just put it under my name. Here is the challenge:
Okay, I want to see a fic involving Angel in chains. Make it after Eternity or even during Sommbulist or even after Not Fade Away. Whenever, just make Angel helpless in chains. Don't make it NC-17 however. And it must have Buffy in it.
Ok here we go.
Angel finally slayed the dragon, bending over, holding his stomach. He had a good gash in it and it wouldn’t stop bleeding. He looked over at Spike, Gunn, and Illyria. Spike was holding his own, but Gunn was slumped against a wall, his eyes closed. Illyria was keeping a protective wall around him, by fighting off any demon that came her way.
He felt his heart breaking over all his lost friends.
“You wanna save them?”
Angel’s head whipped around. Lilah.
“Lilah.” he growled.
“It’s great to see you again too.” she smiled and crossed her arms.
“It could’ve been anyone but you, but…just my luck.” Angel said, noticing that the demons had frozen, as well as Spike, Illyria, and (Gunn wasn’t moving anyway but) Gunn.
“You wanna save them?” she repeated.
“Of course I do.” Angel said.
“Your life for theirs. Illyria-gets her own body. Gunn-gets to live. Spike-doesn’t get staked in ten seconds. Buffy-doesn’t get killed in, oh, say, five minutes. Fred and Wesley get to live.” she said, raising an eyebrow.
The last sentence hit a soft spot.
“I die so they live?” he confirmed.
“Hell no! You don’t get off that easy. But you won’t die. Oh no.” Lilah sneered.
“And they…they get to live?”
“Well, yes. If we’re anything, it’s true to our promises.” Lilah shrugged as she uncrossed her arms.
“Wanna see what happens if you say no?”
Angel nodded solemnly. Everything went back into action, but instead of being in the fight, he was the audience.
Spike was first to go. A demon came up from behind and speared him straight through. Next went Illyria. She was fighting one demon and as soon as she turned around, ‘off with her head’. Gunn slumped over, just giving up.
“They would’ve wanted to die in battle. *I* would’ve wanted to die in battle.” Angel said bravely.
“Who says you die?” she asked. Suddenly, they were in Rome. A small restaurant. Buffy is sitting with ‘The Immortal’ at a little table in the sunlight. Angel instinctively ran into the shadows before realizing he didn’t burn.
“Her hair is dark.” Angel observed from the shadows.
She took a sip of water and set the glass down. Moments later, her face turned from happiness, to bewilderment, to pain. She looked at the glass and then back at ‘The Immortal’ and blood dribbled out the corner of her mouth. She drew in a sharp intake of breath before falling out of her chair and to the ground. Her skull slammed against the ground with a resounding crack and blood pooled.
“I’ll do it.” he said immediately. A half smile crossed Lilah’s lips. She held out a parchment and a quill dripping with blood. He signed his name.
“Good.” she said and snapped. Everything went dark.
When he awoke he was in a small concrete cell, chained to the wall. Lilah stood before him.
“Okay so I lied. That’s actually what happened, regardless of whether or not you sold your soul.” she smirked. Angel jerked his arms and the chains clanked.
“Bye-bye!” she said and with a small wave, poofed.
Angel growled and struggled against the chains, haunted by images he had seen. Illyria losing her head, Gunn giving up, and Spike turning to dust with a look of surprise on his face.
They would’ve wanted to die heroes.
He kept trying to assure himself, but it didn’t work. The image that haunted him the most was Buffy.
Her eyes frozen open with dried blood running from the corner of her mouth. Her hair matted with blood. And then, she would blink and mouth the word Angel.
Sometimes her body would appear feet before him, staying there for days on end before decaying and dusting in the non-existent wind.
Angel, finally, decided he had to get out of there. He began pulling on the chains and didn’t stop, despite of the pain. He felt the skin ripping off his hands and denied the scream clawing at his throat.
Suddenly, the chains turned to rope and his skin was back. He growled in annoyance and closed his eyes and wished that he could rest.
He felt a warm hand stroking his face and opened his eyes. Buffy stood there, her brown hair brushed into a low ponytail. She still had dried blood on her chin. Tears filled her beautiful green eyes.
“Buffy?” he asked, his voice scratchy from disuse.
She didn’t say anything, just lightly kissed him and said quietly, “You will win.”
He looked at her strangely before she dissolved into the wind. “NO!”
His eyes flicked open and he was standing in an alley, rain pelting down on him. He looked up and saw the dragon approaching.
A smile crept onto his lips as he called out, “I call the dragon!”
He charged forward, sword swinging, with Buffy’s words ringing in his mind. And he knew he would win.
