Somewhere Else: Chapter 3

“This is definitely not home,” Xander said.
“Nope,” Buffy agreed.
“What makes you say that?” Anya asked sarcastically. “Could it be the fact that the Magic Box is a parking lot?”
Willows eyes welled with tears. “I’m sorry you guys,” she said, “this is all my fault.”
“Don’t cry Will,” Buffy said. “It’s not your fault. Anya’s the one that wanted you to do the protection spell on the Magic Box.”
“Yeah,” Willow said, “but I screwed it up.”
“Well, we can talk about this later. Right now we need to concentrate on gathering the ingredients for the spell,” Xander said. “Maybe the next leap will be the leap home!”
“‘Leap home?’” Buffy asked.
“You know, like on that show Quantum Leap?” Xander said. “Where the guy was pregnant.”
“That’s all you got out of how many seasons?” Buffy asked.
Xander shrugged. “It was the most memorable.”
“What about the one when Sam and Al changed places?” Buffy asked.
“Oh,” Xander said. “That was a good one too. I can’t believe I forgot that one!”
“Uh, guys?” Willow said. “Off topic.”
“Oh, sorry,” Buffy said sheepishly.
“We’ll be good,” Xander promised.
Anya groaned.
“Anyway,” Xander said. “Let’s get to finding those ingredients.”
“I actually have them already,” Willow admitted. “I pocketed a little extra in the last world.”
“Finally!” Anya said. “You did something right!”
“Shut up,” Xander said.

“At least it’s a building,” Anya said. “Just not a magic shop, though.”
“More like an abandoned warehouse,” Buffy observed.
“Hey Will, do you by any chance have enough of those ingredients left to do the spell again?” Xander asked.
“I think, but just barely.”
“You wanna risk it or should we have a look around?” Xander asked.
“We should probably look around since I doubt we’ll be going home any time soon,” Anya said.
“Can we leave her here?” Xander asked.
“Tempting,” Buffy said, “But no.”
Anya pouted.
They set out to search this new world for anything resembling a supermarket or a magic shop.
After about forty-five minutes of roaming around town and not seeing another living human being Buffy was worried.
“Maybe there’s a lot of vampires on this world,” Xander suggested, “so all the people hide out inside.”
“Could be,” Buffy said. She stopped walking. “So what do we do? There aren’t any stores open anywhere and I’m tired of walking.”
“Let’s go back to the warehouse where...” Willow started. “Does anyone know how to get back there?”
Xander shook his head. “Totally lost here,” he admitted.
“Me too,” Buffy agreed.
Willow sighed. “Then I’ll just do the spell here and hope that there’s a magic shop on the next world.”
***
“This looks promising,” Buffy said.
“Yes,” Xander agreed. “If it’s not our world, it’s certainly a reasonable facsimile.”
“Let’s go see if there’s a Magic Box,” Willow said.
They quickly found the magic shop, still named Dragons Cove, and quickly broke in.
It took them a few minutes to gather the ingredients needed for the spell.
Before Willow cast the spell again, they all agreed that it would be a good idea to take some extra ingredients in case they were stranded again.

“On the bright side, I’m sure we’re all in agreement that this is definitely NOT our world,” Xander said.
“I’m gonna have to agree with you on that,” Anya said.
“That settles it,” Buffy said. “Sure sign that we’re in an alternate universe: Xander and Anya agreeing!”
Willow smiled a little.
“But, alas. I have to agree too,” Buffy said, surveying their desert-like surroundings. “Not home, Will?”
“I’m on it,” Willow said.

“Well, this isn’t home,” Buffy announced. “But maybe they have food here,” she suggested.
“Good idea,” Xander said. “Let’s see what kind of sustenance this reality has. I’m feeling a little peckish.”
Buffy covered her mouth to hid her giggle.
“What?” Xander asked.
“You said ‘peckish,’” Buffy said.
“Oh,” Xander said. “That was a little girly, huh?” He admitted. “Must be all the time I spend with people of the opposite sex.”
“Ok,” Buffy said, moving on. “Let’s get something to eat, then Will can try the spell again.”
They headed for the door of the warehouse that stood where the magic shop would be.
Buffy went out first, but pushed everyone back in before they could exit.
“What?” Willow asked.
“I’m thinking food would be a bad idea,” Buffy said.
“Why?” Anya asked.
“Just trust me on that one,” The Slayer replied.
Anya pushed past her and headed for the door.
“You don’t wanna do that,” Buffy warned.
Anya ignored her and stepped out the door, only to return less than two seconds later freaking out.
“Told ya so,” BUffy said.
“I knew they were evil!” Anya said breathlessly.
“What did we miss?” Xander asked.
“Bunnies,” Buffy said, “commando bunnies.”
Xander eyed her skeptically.
“Giant bunnies dressed in fatigues, marching up and down the street, carrying weapons!” Anya clarified.
“Oh,” Xander said.
“So, do your stuff Will,” Buffy said.
“Please,” Anya added weakly.
