The phone rang at 111 Montague Street. “I got it, G man,” Faith called rushing around the corner to pick up the phone in the hall.

“Yes, Faith, thank you. I do love that name,” Giles said sighing and returning to the book he had been reading.

“Hey I aim to please,” Faith responded picking up the phone, “Yeah?”

“Hello, Faith. It’s Kennedy, I need to talk to Giles.”

“It’s great to hear from you too, Kenn. Oh everything is just fine with me, thanks for askin’.”

“Faith, listen I don’t have time for games. Just get Giles, I need to talk to him now!”

“Wait, hold up Kenn. Is everything alright, who’s dyin’, is Red alright?”

“Yes everything is fine, I mean no it isn’t fine, Will’s not doing so well, and no, no one is dying…yet.”

Hearing the tension in Kennedy’s voice, Faith put the phone down and headed into the study to get Giles. “Hey, watcher man, Kennedy is calling from the states. Says it’s important.”

“Hmmmm, Kennedy calling now? Why, it must be close to 4 a.m. in New York. Oh my,” Giles said, worry clouding his words as he went into the hall to retrieve the phone. “Hello.”

“Hi Giles.” Giles heard the strain and worry in her voice. He knew exactly why she was calling. “It’s happening again.” She could barely keep it together.

“Oh, dear,” Giles said taking off his glasses with his free hand and rubbing the bridge of his nose with his fingers. “For how long now?”

“It just started. I got her back to sleep, but this time, Giles, it was bad. Almost the worst one yet. I don’t think she knew who she was.” Giles could hear the tremor in Kennedy’s voice. He knew she was trying to be strong, that she was always strong.

“I see,” Giles said, trying to think.

“I just don’t know what to do. I know we have searched and searched but maybe you could ask the Coven one more time to look for clues to what is going on. I thought we were through the worst. The last intervention we tried worked. At least it seemed to work, she was better, but now….”

“Yes, of course Kennedy, I will do everything I can. We will just have to keep searching till we find something that works. Is there anything you need, anything I can do?”

“No, thank you. Not now. Just try and find something to stop this! I’m good here for now, just find some…” Kennedy stopped and Giles heard the sound of screaming in the background. “Listen, Giles, I gotta go.” He heard another scream. “Call me if you find anything.”

And with that Giles heard the click of Kennedy hanging up the phone. Shaking his head with grief, he walked slowly back to the library to search the books he had searched a thousand times before.
